1.) Jeff knew what was going on. (not opinion)
2.) This thread is not about shempday, it's about who really "owns" the TMF (not opinion)
3.) You can try to get Jeff's approval to make the aforementioned changes, but it won't work. (not opinion).

This is a ive been proven wrong so let me use a lot of big words to make myself sound right post. She wanted to showcase facts. She then proceeded to pound her chest and retread her thousand-time stated monologue. Her best nugget was to use a quote from someone who isn't an Admin talking about how things get done on this forum, who also has a vested interest in how this all comes out in the public. Mostly because of their own inept social skills in how to deal with the situation.

You see, you wouldn't have me, and Mairead, and Purrbast, and others responding and saying "hold up hold up" if it wasn't for the way the entire thing was treated. Instead, we get this circular bitching about how you either need to leave, or you need to shut up, or whatever. You have folk coming in saying nonsensical blanket statements like "go outside" or "go kiss a girl" or whatever myopic bullshit which usually gets tossed towards people who live in their parents basement at the age of thirty.

Humor is relative. Any symbol has to be codified, and that codification can carry with it humorous connotations. Any symbol. Now I would not chance the argument by saying my symbols are remotely acceptable, or that they are funny as stand alones. They are extreme symbols. But, hey, just because I find them appalling doesn't mean any of those things cannot be funny when the conditions are just right. That's human psychology, and it is not concrete. Ergo, humor is relative to the person, to the audience, and so on and so forth.

Which, if you look through most of it? Most people are all 'meh'. I'm meh. The shit was not funny to me, but it didn't bother me at first. Then the people behind it started pissing on anyone that dared stand up and say "hey, you know, didn't appreciate it". That's the crux of the entire damn situation as it stands presently.

Now I've been dancing a tight rope game since I started posting today, be it by batting away one person or continuing the discourse in other threads. And now it's reaching a critical mass. Nothing new is going to be gained at this point because, as it was last night, the people involved don't care at all about how they dealt with others, have been adamant in doing so, and now we have those who weren't even involved flamebaiting and raking up GR violations which mostly will not be seen through.

Oh, BabyShambles - we meet again.

The message the OP quoted was mine. I posted it in one of the many Shemp crap threads in response to Adam saying his personal space was invaded when all the words on the ENTIRE forum that were any derivative of "foot" or "tickle" were changed to SHEMP, and if effected his (and everyone else's) posts, blogs, PMs, basically anything written on the forum. (Can you imagine what the stories section looked like? Oy!)

Anyway, my point is, people seem to think they come here and are owed something for their wonderful existence on the TMF, when in fact, they're not. This place is paid for, run, and maintained by people who are NOT you. They run the show. They make the decisions. You can like it or hate it, but that's the way it is. If you want to go somewhere where they'll hold your hand and kiss your forehead and say, "Sorry we ruined your day," then get to gettin' cause it ain't happenin' here.

We're a member-driven forum - if the members all got their panties in a bunch and left the TMF would die. Yes, you're right. But that would only be punishing the members themselves, not the people who run it. They don't get anything out of running the site. They don't make money. All they get is the same content that we get (which they could get elsewhere if all the members migrated to one of the other, and in my opinion, considerably less awesome TK sites), and the satisfaction of making available to all of us a totally awesome place to make friends and share MANY interests - not just the one that happens to bring us all here.

So, I stand by original statement that this site belongs to the people who run it. We're all allowed to post and message and blog here because they decided to let us come, and then made those features available. It's not their duty to do so, and it certainly isn't owed to us.

You might have the best interests of the people your defending at heart but posting such guff on their behalf and enflaming the situation when others are trying to diffuse it comes across as arrogant and dismissive of the members of the TMF and helps create an air of elitism.

If as i suspect, Jeff and the others that run the TMF want their members to feel valued and part of the tickling communtiy, don't you think your post is undermining his intentions.

I said that it appears as though the owner wasn't in the dark about what went on on Shempday. I don't know if he thinks it was all in good fun, not such a great idea, a silly idea executed poorly, or all fun and games that is being blown way out of proportion. I can't speak for his opinion on the prank or my post. All I can assume is that my post is tolerable because it's still in existence.

I'm not interested in defending anybody. Here is my personal opinion on the prank. It wasn't a very funny prank. I could take it or leave it. It didn't wreck my day, but it didn't make me laugh either. I think that some people got their panties in a bunch of overreacted when they saw the forum altered, and they flipped out. I think some people were legitimately concerned that the TMF had been hacked or something had gone wrong. I think some people were annoyed, and some people just saw an opportunity to stir shit up. That having been said, I think that the originators of the prank could absolutely have handled the aftermath better. So please don't take my quote and think that it's meant to stand up for anybody. Everyone involved with this prank is more than capable of standing up for themselves. They certainly don't need me.

My post actually has nothing to do with Shempday other than that it was inspired by something someone said ON shempday. My post is actually about feeling that they are owed something for coming here on any day of the year. I don't feel that the mods and admins get enough credit for what they do here, and some people just keep putting their hand out for more. I feel as though people take advantage of the fact that this site and all it's contents is offered completely 100% free of charge, and they don't always appreciate it. They don't do this for themselves, they do this for us, and I think it's about time some people started appreciating that a little bit more rather than expect a kiss on the forehead when something happens that they don't like.

My intention was never to come off as arrogant or dismissive, although I am not denying that it could have sounded that way. I call 'em like I see 'em and I'm not good at sugar-coating. That's just me. My intention is never to offend anyone, but I say what I feel I need to say to get my point across. You can call that a flaw if you feel that it's so, but it's not gonna change.

Overall, I understand what you're saying, and I hope that you understand what I'm saying a little better. 🙂

Is it really worth it to get angry about a few people on one web site? Maybe it's just me, but I'm the kind of person who doesn't read something on a forum if it makes me upset.
