What will presumably one of WBC's standard "peaceful sidewalk demonstrations" is meant to "remind you who worship that old Serpent, Satan, that your time is very short," according to a post on the "Upcoming Picket Schedule" page of the web site. The post continues, "You know 67 year old, Satan-worshiping (or at least one of their enablers) Ronnie James Dio (of showing his devil horns to the world each time he goes in public) BLACK SABBATH fame is dead, right? We'll be there! Just because the chances of any of God's elect being amongst this group of heavy metal sycophants is slim to none does not mean they should not get some good words."

The best way to deal with people like this is to ignore them. As long as they are not breaking any laws they have the right to protest, no matter how offensive people might find it. They have the right to speak out. They don't have the right to be listened to. It would help a great deal if the media would stop giving them publicity. But they won't, because controversy sells.

There is an exception to this right to protest. If defamatory remarks are expressed publicly against a specific individual, they can seek redress in civil court as I understand it.

Don't get me wrong. I despise Phelps and others like him. I wish they would crawl back under the slimy rock they came from. But freedom of speach is a more important issue, at least to me.

No, there's no level they won't be afraid to sink to. I'm not surprised that they'd show up to protest this guy's funeral. The protested the funerals of the fallen mine workers a few months ago. They go to schools and call the students *****s and show up at worship services to protest too.


The worst to me? They protest funerals of American soldiers holding signs that show nothing but hatred. People who have died so that these assholes have the right to hold up their fucked up signs.

I believe that it would be right thing if the entire metal and hard rock industry attended the funeral as much as possible, including Ozzy, who once called that incarnation of Black Sabbath "Geezer and the 3 W*ps", in a show of solidarity and a way to tell Phelps (the world's biggest pervert in my opinion because I believe his "ministry" is a front for something really heinous) where to stick those signs.

The Phelps family has had a history of child abuse, and other sick tales. I'm surprised a Jim Jones incident hasn't occurred.

They have their own with cameras for that purpose. They tried it in Indianapolis and got a wall of Outlaw Bikers put in front of them. For some reason getting the crap beat out of them by some guys who don't have much money and see prison as an extended vacation was worth their trouble. At least that is what happened here.

Whilst I would agree with protecting freedom of speech in pretty much any other case, these guys take the royal piss. I don't believe any true metal head would allow those twats to picket their hero's funeral, I sure as hell wouldn't. If they do show up, and don't get their skulls caved in, I will be devastated.

Sometimes, the best way to logic against something so upsetting is to fight fire with fire. IN this case, fight bible with bible. Let me start by stating I in absolutely no way would ever endorse the views or actions of Westboro Baptist Church. I had a strange almost unhealthy affection for Dio, a man I've only met briefly. When I read of the picketing movement by the WBC I actually did start crying. I was all out pissed. This being said, I belong to a small southern baptist church in the bible belt. In my experience, there's a right way and a wrong way to share the message of The Word. Clearly, by the extreme actions of this group, they're doin' it wrong. This is exactly the sort of thing that drives me crazy. Even within my own church there are people spewing their hate filled rhetoric against those things deemed a sin by the bible. Now, these fundamentalists go by a simple rule "if the bible says it, it must be true and black and white" But wait a minute... if a person actually takes the time to READ the bible instead of waiting for their favorite televangelist to "read it" to them, you learn that is says that we ALL are sinners... we're, by nature, just as guilty as the "fags" they protest against:

(Romans 3:9-10) - "What then? Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin; 10as it is written, "There is none righteous, not even one."

(Romans 3:23) - "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

So the bible says it, it must be true... but somehow they've missed over these parts. Let's continue our sojourn through The Word, shall we.

One of the greatest, if not THE GREATEST message in the bible is of loving one another. Cited below are all 19 instances in which the bibles instructs Christians, verbatim, to love one another.

NOT ONE of these verses says "love one another unless they're gross, fruity fags or prone to throwing horns in response to some real good music." It simple says to love one another... that's it, that's all. No exceptions.

Spreading hate in the guise of being a Christian, to me, is a far greater sin than all others, and moreover an unfortunate one. These "wolves in sheeps' clothing" often do not even realize that instead of spreading the gospel as they are instructed, they are instead spreading bitterness, hate and worst of all infecting children with this garbage. I teach sunday school, but I will NOT teach these beautiful children to hate another when the word tells us to love one another.
To love one another means, we're even supposed to love the fags and Ronnie James Dio.

Theology aside, my guess is none of the protesters never actually sat through a Dio concert. That strangely soft spoken little guy had such beauty and power and he shared it with the world. Take Hear N Aid into consideration. This effort doesn't seem like the actions of someone so detestable they deserve to be disrespected at their own funeral.

If you go to their website, they actually have a "schedule" of where they're going to picket. Seems that they're big on picketing the Jews, Catholics and schools whenever they don't have a funeral to "attend."

And it looks like they actually have the balls to be in Arlington National Cemetery on 5/31 - Memorial Day.

I saw first hand at the American Legion Mall in Indy what these people were. I also saw how big their eyes got when some really badass looking and extremely scarred yet muscular biker type gentlemen stood in their way daring the zealots to cross this imaginary line.

I don't think I'd have the nerve to yell stupid shit at some greiving mother that I'm glad her son is dead no matter how I felt about the war or anything else. Even more idiotic is the fact that the man who died gave the ultimate sacrifice so these assbags can be guarenteed freedom of speech.
