The word "tickle"

I guess I'm in the majority on this one - I simply can't say tickle or any variation of it. Since early elementary school (when this tickling fascination kicked in), I was always very tight-lipped when it came to talking about tickling. If I HAD to talk about it, I became like a walking thesaurus and always found a substitute word (for either tickle or ticklish): sensitive, touchy, caress lightly, scribbling fingers, etc. I could probably count on one hand the amount of times I had said it my whole life. Loved hearing OTHER people say it and talk about it... I just didn't want to have to say it myself.

In fact, it was only when my brother in-law bought my kids a book for Christmas that I was painted into a corner - the title sent me into a panic "Elmo likes to be tickled". GULP. There was NO way of getting around saying it when the damn word was right there in black and white. And OF COURSE the book quickly became one of my kid's favorites. I would never read it when someone else (other than my kid) was in the room with me because I knew I read it awkwardly. I would just take a breath and kind of speed my way through the word every time it came up (and let me tell you, it came up A LOT!) The gist of the book was that Elmo had a secret that everyone had to guess, and at the very end of the book it was revealed that Elmo likes to be tickled..... well Elmo, guess what? So do I. 😛 I thought the fact that the book was being read by a mostly closeted tickle freak, was kind of a funny (albeit uncomfortable) twist. Thank god my kids are too old for Elmo now!!!

I too cannot say tickle, tickled or tickling. But by far the most uncomfortable is ticklish! I get a lump in my throat just thinking about saying or hearing that word lol. If I hear a girl say the word "ticklish" or talk about how ticklish she is it's all I can think about for the rest of the day.

me too

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! Typing the word is soooo much easier than saying it, even when talking to fellow TMF's on the phone, chat, etc.

I can play it off if need be but you can bet I'm feeling a lil weezywobble in my tummy!

This is how i feel about it too. It is especially scary when i am in a conversation about tickling and the other person draws the word out of me.

That's funny. I can't say it without a little hesitation. I don't think anyone notices but me. I have no problem saying it to a prospective model when I am casting for a video, but in my everyday "personal" life; it do think about it when I say it and it makes me pause. I thought I was the only one. 🙂

I was soooooo bad when I first joined this forum at 19 years old. I would talk to focus on the phone and I could not even say the word on the phone. I used to get this uneasy feeling and pain in my stomach even if I heard the word. Now I smile when I hear the word. I am more comfortable with using the word 'tickling' casually 4 years later.

I was playing the game "Taboo" with some family over Thanksgiving, and I got the word "tickle." I stared at blankly for about 10 seconds before passing.

lmao! I can so relate to that. Only it was with friends, not family. My current boyfriend was right there too when him and I were still getting to know each other and he did not know about me yet. I passed too LMFAO!!!! What are the odds of me getting that dreadful word on my first turn. The words you weren't allowed to say were funny too like "laugh", "giggle" or, "feather".

I'm starting to feel like a freak as I have zero issue with saying the word and I'm vastly outnumbered...😵

You're not a freak Marquis, I'm totally with you on that one. It doesn't bother me at all to talk about it or say tickle, tickling, tickled, ticklish, etc 🙂

Lol at least I know I'm not the only one either. And when I do say it, it's kinda dragged as if to make peole believe I didn't say it at all. Like "it tihckhles" LOL

I still have a hard time with saying it or even if someone else says it around me i almost cringe.

Every time I say it to someone I feel like I said it differently than I should have & that they are going to know that I like tickling haha, totally paranoid. Whenever someone says it to me I usually avoid eye contact and nod, mumble a reply, or pretend like they didn't say anything.

I've tensed up or tried to change the subject in the past when someone would ask if i was ticklish even if it was that person and I one on one, alone. Instead of trying to get tickled much more, i would get shy..Sometimes we need to let our fears go and seize opportunities. Tickling is technically a socially accepted for of flirting and play these days. There is not so much a need to be scared. It is all in our heads. Being afraid of the word "tickling" in the past has been one of the few reasons why I wasn't getting tickled enough.

I used to. Not so much any more though.
I guess its normal though when you refer to unusual fetishes.
You think the whole worlds watching you even when no one has a clue. lol

For me that would be more than enough reason to start tickling; as it would imply ticklishness in my head.

I dont have trouble saying it, except around certain people, like family members. My friends know I like tickling, and I've discussed their sisters ticklishness with them. I would have no trouble saying it at a gathering, because I know the people there would be into it.

Where I absolutely hate to say the word "tickle" or "ticklish" is around family members. Most of them, except my mom,. dont know I'm into this, and I just hate the idea of thinking about tickling, or saying one of my favorite words, around them. It makes me feel... disgusted.

all the time...I just can't say it:blush2: I can easily WRITE it though...like through text message or email

I can recall a time where I had to read a story in elementary school...it was about a whale or something...and the word tickle came up...I froze...my teacher repeated the word but I couldnt get it out..thankfully it was a private reading session...but I was so embarassed...we skipped the word because I just couldnt say it:facepalm:

What everyone else said, I feel like, if I say it, everyone knows I'm into it and if I hear someone else say it, I'm all ears.

I can't say it all at.. Infact, I go to great lengths to make sure I don't have too 😀

Yes, at one time I was extremely uncomfortable. Now I hear it and say the word, it seems like all the time.

I don't know how many threads there have been about this subject. Maybe dozens. It's a very, very powerful word. A very, very powerful concept. My ears never fail to perk up like that of a German Shepard when I hear it, and I'm even loath to use it in most contexts...

I used to have trouble saying it, along with words like "tummy", "belly", "bellybutton", "navel", etc. But then I just got over it by thinking that to most people, saying "tummy" is just like saying "arm" and saying "tickle" is just like saying "pinch". Most people won't be able to read my mind and see the different connotations the words are having in my head, so I'm safe. 😛

All my life I can't say, "Tickle" or any permutation in public. I can barely talk about it, and then only if I don't have to say, "Tickle" so anyone can hear it. If anyone else says it it feels like I have rubber binders wrapped all around my tongue.

My wife's cousin married a guy really into tickling, except he wasn't the least bit inhibited about describing what he did to his wife 'last night.' If we were with them for dinner or some such and he got started my mouth simply went dry.

Once I managed to say in a straight voice after one of his tickle stories that, "...I don't believe in that."

My wife said, "Ya! Right! Who is that who refuses to stop tickling me no matter how much I beg!"

By that time my mouth and tongue were down for the count. My cousin in law demanded the whole story. I purely could not speak and would have been mortified to even stand up.

My wife told them I hold her down and tickle her to death and back whenever I get the urge that never goes away. I could feel my neck and ears getting bright red. Since my wife knew darned well what tickling does to me, I think this was her way of getting revenge.

I think 'tickle' is THE MOST FUN (!) word in the English language, but for me it's only to be used in private only with my wife.

Hiram

P.S. I now KNOW that my cousin-in-law KNEW (KNOWS?) exactly what he was doing to people like me when he told his stories. He explained what he did with each of his wife's reactions.

Great Caesar's Ghost! I loved and hated those conversations at the same time!

Wow, I don't like saying the word tickle either. I only think it or say it online, but that's as far as I go.

I've always had trouble saying it. It's almost as though I think people will discover I'm into it just by saying it. The word kind of gets stuck in the back of my throat.
