The Wrestling Thread!!

choking has been a big no no since the benoit thing, so thats fine and all but why is danielson the only one being punished for it? That same night Heath Slater choked cena with the ring ropes, not too long ago cena choked orton with a pair of handcuffs and dolph zigglers finishing move is a choke. So if danielson is really gone they need to release slater, cena, and ziggler for the same reason

It's not choking, it's chair shots to the head. Benoit had severe brain damage from blunt force trauma because he didn't properly protect himself from chair shots. Of course if Pro Wrestling in general (and not just WWE)had a health and safety policy then this and allot of other things probably would not have happened.

Your points about the one sidedness of the way they do things is well founded though. As I've said, if the rules don't apply to everyone then the system won't work.

I can't believe that Bryan got fired JUST because of the choking thing. There must be other reasons we don't know yet.

EXCLUSIVE: Major Danielson/WWE Details: Will He Return?

According to a source within WWE, Bryan Danielson's release from the company did not raise many backstage eye brows following last week's NXT invasion angle on Raw. According to what I was told, immediately after the incident where Danielson choked ring announcer Justin Roberts occurred, the WWE creative team knew there would be ramifications to Danielson's actions as what he did is not allowed in the company.

I was told that it is well known amongst wrestlers and employees in WWE that blatant choke holds with weapons or the ring ropes are not allowed in WWE, and the reason why is directly because of the events which occurred during the Chris Benoit tragedy.

I was told that Vince McMahon himself called Danielson directly on Friday night and informed him of his WWE release. Immediately after, Stephanie McMahon informed the rest of the WWE employees and talent that Danielson was no longer with the company.

Many online reports are suggesting that Danielson was thrown under the bus, so to speak, with this firing and from what I was told that is generally true. The source I spoke with gave me the impression that Danielson will be re-hired on the "91st day," which is a reference to his 90 day no-compete clause. Of course this is NOT a confirmation that Danielson will indeed be hired back, but the impression I was given is that Danielson's firing was something that WWE had to do to make sure they followed protocol, and not necessarily something that WWE wanted to do.

EXCLUSIVE: Backstage Heat on John Cena For Danielson Tweet

According to several sources within WWE, John Cena's latest tweet concerning Bryan Danielson's WWE release has garnered Cena quite a bit of heat amongst the boys in the locker room. The general feeling amongst the talent is that they are all part of a major work, as Cena has been curiously outspoken about the release of Bryan Danielson. It is unlikely that a WWE star would ever publicly criticize a decision made by the company, so a lot the guys in the back feel that Cena is in on something that they are not aware of.

I was told that for the most part John Cena's Tweets, as well as many of the Tweets posted by WWE talent, are worked. WWE has told the talent to create Twitter accounts to help reach out to the internet fans as well as help establish the company's online presence.

Amongst speculation that Bryan Danielson's WWE firing was merely a formality, and that he might be brought back after his 90 day no-compete clause expires, John Cena opportunistically decides to post a "rant" about the company's decision to fire him. Red flag alert. Cena has NEVER been critical of a WWE decision in the past, yet he seems to be about this particular managerial choice.

I was told the same red flag was raised when Cena posted a Tweet declaring that he was "behind" the recent push of Evan Bourne. A Tweet like this was most likely done to win the affection of the internet fan base, who largely dislikes Cena, and a vote of confidence for Evan Bourne seems like a vote of confidence for the wrestling purist.

Bryan's release is the perfect example of why I hate WWE's PG era.

If anyone watched the last TNA ppv, Roxxi bled more than I've seen anyone bleed in WWE in a long time.. and she's female.

WWE lost me when during their 'extreme rules' ppv, a weapon used was an empty plastic bucket. Seriously? Seriously?? A 'friggin empty plastic bucket.

Since we're on no particular subject, I will say that I enjoy Santino Marella and William Regal more than 3/4 of the rest of the roster.

That is all.

There is a rumor going around that Linda's campaign is responsible for him getting released . This was an email sent to major wrestling rumor sites .

Source: Wrestlezone

Quote:
I received the following email two days ago, however I decided to hold off on posting it as it is both unconfirmed and anonymous. This same email is floating around in the inboxes of other internet wrestling media sources, as I noticed that it was CC'd to the addresses of many different online wrestling media outlets. It seems to imply that the Linda McMahon senate campaign was the reason why Bryan Danielson was fired from WWE, and since there has been so much speculation abound as to why he was released, I figured I'd post the email and allow you to be the judge. Furthermore, after speaking with a source inside WWE about this "conspiracy theory," I was told that it might not be very far off from the truth considering the circumstances, so here it is. Keep in mind, the following correspondence is anonymous:

"To whom it may concern;

I am a campaign worker for the Linda McMahon Senate campaign in Stamford, CT and I wanted to pass this information along to you. I am not a "fan" of Mrs. McMahon's family business by any means but I also do not like to see people's livelihoods taken away because of someone's political ambitions.

In regards to the released performer Daniel Brian this decision was made by Mr. David Cappiello the new campaign manager for Mrs. McMahon. After viewing the video of an incident of someone being choked and spat on Mr. Cappiello advised the campaign this could have very negative repurcussions to the campaign as a whole.

It was his decision that many in the media would use this against Mrs. McMahon in her campaign because of it's violent nature and it would bring up memories of the Chris Benoit tragedy which the campaign has tried very hard to distance itself from. He also felt it would significantly hurt her stance on family values to be associated with a product marketed towards children that allowed it's performers to openly spit in the faces of one another. It was this decision that led to the performer being released to show the media that Mrs. McMahon does not tolerate or approve of such behavior.

I am sending this to you from a temporary e-mail address. I will not answer further questions I just thought the truth should be put out there and not this rampant speculation. You can chose to print this or not, I leave that entirely to you."

What's with all the Chris "child killer" Benoit talk lately? I don't give two craps about a stuntman who can't learn his stunts correctly and lets himself get cracked in the head so many times it causes trauma. Make all the excuses you want, blame it on whomever you want, to me bottom line is he didn't learn his job. I don't think too many in the business have taken more shots to the head than Mick Foley, but I don't see him murdering his family. Could the WWE have prevented it? Maybe. But if you tried to count how many in the business got hit in the head with chairs you would lose count. Yet I don't see them murdering their family. The WWE can't handfeed every wrestler who comes along. They know the risks. They know the business. If you were told to do a job and you thought the job was unsafe or too dangerous you wouldn't do it. But if you do it anyway and get injured, it's the company's fault because you couldn't use common sense.

He's exactly correct. Maybe they should start filling up those empty plastic buckets with ice cream and play in the sand while clapping hands together. That would sell out arenas around the globe.

Chris Benoit was a great performer found himself in a bad place. One of the reasons for that was the chair shots he took to his head. Why is it even necessary for somebody to swing a chair at another's head. When I was a kid a chair shot across the back was enough. However it is bad business for the WWE to allow somebody who isn't protecting themselves properly. Simply stepping in an tell him "Christ next time 30 days with no pay" and believe me that would have probably set him straight.

Add to the above the depression brought on buy the death of close friends, complicated by concussions suffered during matches, increased from booze and pain killed used to fend off pain from other injuries so he could keep up with a stupid tour schedule and it is a wonder this shit doesn't happen more often. The line that defines you best is...
"I don't give a crap about stunt man who can't learn his stunts"
...this comment pretty much describes 90% of the wrestling fans out there. they simply don't give a shit about the boys and girls in the industry, and how much pain they go through to entertain you. That's why you are ignorant vampire scum. Just because you choose to work in an industry doesn't give you employer the right to put you at needless risk for profit. If a suit had spoken up about Benoit he might (or might not) still be alive today. Right now he is dead, and the WWE isn't making a penny off of him now are they? Money is money and business is business, and not protecting a top star was a bad business move.

Owen Hart chose to put on that harness and get lowered down to the ring at "Over The Edge" over 10 years ago, that doesn't mean Vince and the WWE weren't responsible for ensuring his safety. It's the same with Benoit and any other wrestler. Just because they choose be be pro wrestlers doesn't mean the WWE isn't obligated to ensure there safety whenever possible. The truth is they dropped the ball with Benoit simply because asses were in the seats and ass holes thought it was cool when he took one to the head for real.

If you don't care about these "stunt men" then why are you even on this thread for?

WWE lost me when during their 'extreme rules' ppv, a weapon used was an empty plastic bucket. Seriously? Seriously?? A 'friggin empty plastic bucket.

So exactly what would your bludgeoning tool of choice have been? Aluminum bats maybe?

According to a source within WWE, another big reason why Bryan Danielson was released from the company is because he spit in the face of John Cena during the NXT beat down angle on Raw.

According to what I was told, Cena was very upset that Danielson spat on him, and he complained to management about the incident after the Raw taping and may have also pushed for Danielson's release.

This of course then begs the question, "why is Cena pushing so hard to have Danielson brought back to WWE?" The reason is that Cena is trying to attract more internet fans, and I was told "babyface to the wrestling world." As we have exclusively reported before, Cena going to bat for guys like Danielson and Evan Bourne on his Twitter account and in interviews is Cena's way of getting over with the fans.

It should be noted that the source I spoke with did not say the spitting incident was the ONLY reason why Danielson was released, but that it definitely played a part in his release as well as the choking incident.

First off jackwad, if you are going to quote somebody DO IT CORRECTLY..

Pay attention to what I actually wrote. "I don't give two craps about a stuntman who can't learn his stunts correctly" - emphasis on the word CORRECTLY.

If you can't learn your stunts CORRECTLY you don't belong in the wrestling industry period. That's how the performers get injured. When I pay for a ticket I help pay the wrestlers salary. I'm paying for see "correctly" trained professionals do what they do better than anyone else can. I'm not paying for stuntmen who can't learn their stunts CORRECTLY.

Of course if I didn't actually care about the performers as you claim, then I wouldn't give two craps about them period. I wouldn't really care if they were trained correctly - or untrained - what difference would it make? Let them injure each other and kill off everyone of them, right?

Oh I don't know.. Let's try broken glass, maybe a barbed-wire table or maybe the bag of thumbtacks. Seems to me Abyss uses these on a regular basis and yet I don't see him going home and murdering his family. And guess what? He's entertaining too. Just like Mick Foley. Maybe because he does his stunts "correctly" ?

Im not sure if your aware but mick foley has fought pain killer addiction for years as did benoit. Foley is also missing an ear,7 teeth and has major back problems that make it hard for him to get up in the morning. Wrestlers arent stunman and this argument makes you seem very ignorrant

Benoit murdered his family because he spent over 20 years wrestling in JPW,ECW,WCW and WWE where he was constantly abused through chair shots and other means. He and any other wrestler are not provided or offered medical care and with the pain and travel they deal with its much easier to say ill take some pain killers than it is to actually find out if anything is wrong, after all if they miss time due to injury they miss pay. Not to mention they are offered no retirement and no medical benfits after retirement so you are very wrong in your judgement

PS- Benoit was and still is known as one of the best technical wrestlers in the history of wrestling, so as you put it "he did his stunts correctly"

I get where you are coming from and I appreciate your input. I also do appreciate the sacrifice the entertainers endure to perform their craft. I am aware of Mick Foley's injuries, and Undertakers, and Shawn Michaels, and Hulk Hogans, and Triple H's.. the list is endless. They all have basically given a part of their soul to entertain the fans. I'm not one of those who think "it's all fake". As far as being a stuntman I guess that depends on your definition. Stuntmen fall out of building windows, jump out of exploding cars and pretend to get "beat up" on a daily basis. I'm sure many of them have broken bones, missing teeth and damaged limbs as well. But they get paid to do it correctly and make it look legitimate. That's the point I was trying to make.

We each will have our own opinions of Chris Benoit.

With that said, and I'm asking this as an opinion question.. why do you think they become pro wrestlers? They know the risks. They know about the lack of benefits, the constant travel, the constant injuries (real ones), the isolation from their family. What exactly is their motivation? Would you become one?

i cant speak for them all but i would think it comes from growing up a fan and loving the buisness. Its like anything take football for example most kids love football and want to be an NFL player but most dont want to put in the hard work or deal with injuries etc etc etc. Same goes for wrestling its a ton of work, you have to go to school, work indies for 25 dollars a night and possibly live in a car and work your ass off for years just to hope you get recognized by the wwe or tna. Anyone who is that dedicated would do whatever the wwe told them to, much like benoit did. I personally think danielson's love of the buisness was to his detriment he was trying to take the segment further and make it better and was fired for it

No i wouldnt become a wrestler its too much to deal with for no guarentee you ever make it

Abyss sucks, and he's an idiot. 2 weeks after it came out about Benoit's brain damage he was taking chair shots with his hands cuffed behind his back. Yep I would say thats really doing your "Stunts Correctly".

First off all the only Jackwad on this thread at the moment it you. Secondly when you buy your wrestling ticket you are supporting an industry that promotes it's employees based on the reaction they get from the crowed (and who they are married too... but that's another story). The crazier the action is the louder the crowed pops and the better the card advancement. It also doesn't help that Vince won't even look at you if you aren't built like a brick shit house. He'd never come right out and tell a performer to steroids, however look at who he promotes to the top... Cena, Batista, HHH, Benoit and many others are have all been on the juice, and if they weren't they wouldn't get promoted. For the record Benoit happens to be one of the best trained wrestlers in history of the industry, he was well respected all over the world. For the record blood sucker, they aren't "Stunt men". No stunt man (or woman) would do the shit pro wrestlers do for the shitty pay they get, no benefits, crappy work environment, and abusive boss. I can't be sure but I believe they have a Union and Vince would have been sued many times over by now if they were Stunt Men. Then again if Correctly mattered then neither member of Cryme Tyme would have jobs in the Wrestling industry, because they are incompetent performers.

Now put that in you pipe and shove it up your ass you slag jawed little bitch.

He doesn't care Trez, thats why he is just another blood sucker. He reminds me of the type of people who watch care races because they want to see a crash, or buy's those Bumb Fight dvds or something. People like him will never really understand where I am coming from because you have to be able to see past your own nose or care about other peoples well being simply because they are people.

Just this past Monday I bought a homeless guy a bottle of water simply because it was a really hot day, and I had the money to help him Heeku sounds like the sort of guy who would have just ignored him at best, or laugh at him because he gets his rocks off on other peoples suffering.

The difference is that if an actual stunt man got hurt the way wrestlers do, then they have benefit plans to help pay for there medical needs. They are protected by there union (I am sure they have one) and they can take time off and not worry about losing there job because there is always something going on where a good stunt man can find a job. In pro-wrestling Vince is basically the only show in town (TNA is nothing at this point, and ROH isn't well known). The McMahon's have the Monopoly for the most part (where is the SCC exactly?), so if you get hurt you lose your spot and down the tubes you go. It not the right way to treat people who are making you money, no matter how much money you are paying them, and allot of those guys are lucky if the make 40,000 a year (and they have to cover their own travel and living arrangements).

We each will have our own opinions of Chris Benoit.

Agreed

Because as kids they watched it, fell in love with it, and decided that was what they wanted to do. That still doesn`t excuse the shotty way they are handled by the people they work for.

Abyss sucks, and he's an idiot. 2 weeks after it came out about Benoit's brain damage he was taking chair shots with his hands cuffed behind his back. Yep I would say thats really doing your "Stunts Correctly".

That was before Hulk Hogan gave him the HOF ring too! Damn! He could have broken out of those cuffs!

No wonder Sting has been Champion for so many times! He has that 'crow' gimmick down bigtime!

For the record Benoit happens to be one of the best trained wrestlers in history of the industry, he was well respected all over the world.

Child killers have that appeal to some people. Especially when they are stupid enough to allow themselves to get cracked in the skull about a 1,000 times a year instead of seeking alternate methods of 'getting a pop'.

I disagree. They are stuntmen. Entertainment stuntmen. Hollywood stuntmen may not have all the red tape, politics and bullshit of the pro wrestling industry, they are still stuntmen. You are confusing 'behind the scenes and corporate BS, unions, and political nonsense' with what the definition of stuntman actually is. If you compare what a stuntman does vs what a pro wrestler does you will see they both perform the same "entertainment" purposes. I'm not talking about what happens when they get injured or what happens when they go home - or how much money they make or how they get promoted - or what benefits they have. I'm talking about what a stuntman actually does when compared to what a pro wrestler actually does. They both have to hit spots, take bumps and make it look real.

Now put that in you pipe and shove it up your ass you slag jawed little bitch.

Tsk. Tsk. Such a pottymouth for such a "PG" guy. It's not my fault your hero is a child killer.
