: : : It is my understanding that if teenage boys were caught kissing or messing around with someones daughter, they were put in the town stocks and tied down and his shoes and socks were removed and the members of the town would randomly, throughout the day take turns tickling his feet with feathers and fingernails for the entire day. They would tickle the boy for hours as he laughed and squealed hysterically. The girls usually relished and enjoyed tickling the boys feet and watching his hysterical plight as he screamed hysterically for them to stop tickling his feet. Most boys had very ticklish feet at that time.

: : I've never heard of people being sentenced to tickling as a punishment; it may have happened once they were locked up...but I don't think they were actually sentenced to tickling, were they?
: : (The pic is from a humorous scenario at a Civil War event; not based on any real occurrence).
: : Just curious,

: Hi!
: I know for a fact the this type of punishment was broughth in by the Quakers, religious cousins of a French group called Les 'Trembleurs' which were settled in the south of France. They were a sub-branch of the anabaptist whose religious principal
: objected to any bloodshed. It is a historical fact that tickling was a regular punichment for serious crimes. I certainly would have liked to attend !
