Except that when I read "generally", I see it as not just a game they play for the roundeyes, but something they do with each other, as well. And that's definitely not true; my inlaws were expressive, warm, friendly, fun-loving people. I got chatted up on the street by folks who were overjoyed to be able to speak English to a genuine White Person. I got catcalled by prostitutes (not in a good way, but still).

Some of the older generation, sure, are a bit more reserved/conservative, but I don't consider that stoic. I've run into enough Chinese who got pushy and aggressive to consider repression a not-Chinese thing.
