Well, like I said,it was just something I heard somewhere.

It would have been a long time ago, so, I dought no one really knows for sure.

I might have been worng about it being Afica [it's been a long time since I heard it], but like I said, no one really knows for sure, since they would not put stuff like that in history books.

So how do we know it even happened? Sounds like a mere fantasy of one of us. There has been a lot of torture throughout history, and they never wasted their time on tickling - there were much more effective methods!

Well, I guess we don't know what really happened back then, [unless you know some one with a time machine 😀] but thats the kind of history I like, the kind that's they don't tell you in the history books.

That is also what makes it fun, just seeing what you can find about it on the net, fact or fiction, it's still fun.

Not really, like a history book isn't going to tell you who had sex with who and stuff like that.

It's like Carol8961 said earlier in this thread, you never know what happens behind closed doors.

We do have a pretty thorough knowledge about justice, torture and so on throughout history. It is pretty unlikely that tickling was used.

Well, while that is true about the knowledge of torture, the term tickle torture had to come from somewhere, I mean every term has it's begining.

What I was getting at about us not knowing everything in history was, like the TMF, we all know it's real and IMO a great site, but it's not going to go down in any mainsream history books.

I have my BA in history. Here is my take:

While none of my professors in college ever discussed tickling in the classes I took with them, at least not when I was present, I distincitly remember reading somewhere about a culture in ancient times that used tickling as a form of torture, or interrigation for criminals, etc.

It never really crossed my mind as to things like whether the forefathers tickled their wives or not. I've never seen anything about such.

That's what I was thinking, back in the mid-evil times of maybe ancient Asia.

When you think about it, tickling could make for good torture, I mean if you want to get endless info from a person without killing them, it's the best way to go.

Well, maybe the middle ages thing was a bit of a stretch, but keep in mind that they were the ones that used the stocks a lot [I think they were called 'stocks', my middle age history is kind of rusty]

I don't think that tickling ever was used as a method of real torture. The only field in which tickling as some kind of punishment might have occurred is "shamefull exposure" (stocks etc.). Hereby, people (mostly beggars or drunkards) who commtitted minor crimes were put in the pillor in public (or they had to wear a scold's bridle). Maybe, among all the humiliations they had to suffer there, there was also tickling.

I have also read a few articles online [wikipedia and others] about people being tickled till they really die, I thought that fit the mid evil times well, with it being a long term type of torture and [some of the lee's on this site will agree] after you have been tickled for a long time it can really start to hurt.

Where did you see that at, under what section? I skimed her wiki page [and even did a word search] and I couldn't find it.

Does Anna Leopoldowna have a book on her biography?
