I read an article in a newspaper today about Mick McManus who was a famous British wrestler in the 1970's.

McManus hardly ever lost any bouts and apparently had a reputation as a bit of a 'hard man' in wrestling.

However, one televised match McManus did lose was to a controversial wrestler called 'Catweazle'. According to the article, Catweazle pinned McManus to the canvas on two separate occasions during the bout and tickled him both times. McManus couldn't stand the tickling and was forced into a humiliating submission on both occasions.

McManus, furious at being made to laugh and wriggle helplessly on the canvas, refused to fight Catweazle again (presumably knowing he would just get tickled again).

I've tried to find some further information about this but come up blank.

Does anyone know anything more about it or ever heard about it?

It looks like the only mentions of this on the web are just passing references. There's a video of one of their bouts on youtube, but it might be a rematch, seeing as I didn't spy much in the way of tickling.

Still amusing in its own way, though.

Ah, yes. The legendary battles of McManus and Catweazle. How could i forget. (For those of you unaware, the catweazle character was the promotions way of cashing in on a kids tv show of the same name that was quite populer at the time. Just as WWE/F used Hulk Hogan to cash in on the hulk superhero.) I saw those matches on DVD (For those interested, serch ITV Wrestling.)

So, Mick was ticklish, huh? Well i'd be pissed off too, but to be honest refusing to fight CW again seems a bit much to me. Mick was in desperate need of a sence of humor if you ask me.

I don't think tickling was used too much in wrestling, but I do remember seeing a clip .with wwe hall of famer Arnold Skaaland tickling the foot of a barefoot wrestler when he was in a leg lock, the reaction was priceless funny stuff I do not think he was expecting it. I bet there were some matches that did not make tv where a barefoot wrestler was tickled anyone remember any stories?
