Tim Russert Dies at 58

That is an enormous shock and a great loss. He was one of the few remaining “true” journalists left in the industry. I will definitely miss his professionalism.

A real jolt! He's only 10 years older than me! He always seemed to be an all-around nice guy! It's a great loss!

I was shocked at hearing this.

He was one of the few remaining real journalists left. He did better than most at keeping his interviews on the level and without putting his personal spin and beliefs into things.

RIP Tim.

Rob

This is shocking, tragic news. He was far too young to pass away. I was stunned and saddened to hear of Mr Russert's passing.

RIP.

Mitch

I very much enjoyed watching meet the press, while drinking my coffee. I also love the job he did on the democratic debate.

He was one of a handful of newsmen who remembered a news person job is to report the news; not create it.

He will be missed:angel:

A Sad Day For Journalism...

I'm not a politcal enthusiast, but I do enjoy occasionally watching "Meet The Press". The main reason for that was Tim Russert. He got deep into the conversations with his guests, calling some to task, all without being judgemental, offensive and "holier than thou". My impression was that he just wanted to get to the bottom of things; I respect that!
Funny; I always got the impression that he was a regular guy (particularly during the round table sessions; you could tell he was as comfortable there as in a restaurant donig the same thing).

I was shocked to learn of his passing, and the fact he died while working on his professional passion.
He was a class act and a great journalist; he will be sorely missed and not easily replaced.

Condolences to his family and colleagues; Rest In Peace, Mr. Russert.

I definitely did a double take when I came today and saw this headline. There wasn't even any hint of any problems that I could see in his recent broadcast. Another reminder how precious and fleeting life is and why you should live every moment as best you can. Tim was as good an interviewer as there was in the broadcast media and a true professional. And you could certainly tell how much he loved his work. RIP Tim.

A truly sad day for politics and news. Tim was the last of NBC's credibility and a beacon of light in dark political times. I first became aware of Russert during the 2000 election. I was instantly impressed by this chubby guy with bright eyes and easy demeanor and have been a fan ever since. Tim's insight, honesty and love of America will be missed. Rest now Brother Tim, you have earned it.

tim was one of last people to speak his mind he was well liked and will be will missed meet the press might go on but it will never be the same with out him
later RIP tim ugly kid joe

I was in some odd company when I heard about this. James "The Amazing" Randi was giving his remarks to Philadelphia's Freethinker Society at their Anti-Superstition bash. When he mentioned Russert's passing, there was an audible collective gasp through about half the crowd. We're very much a bunch of skeptics, and we know James' penchant for instruction through demonstration, so I think some of us, after the intial shock, were wondering when Randi was going to lower the boom -- break it to us that we'd been duped, discuss the methods which made it possible and the story so compelling... There was some lesson in accepting anecdote alone without corroborating evidence, perhaps...

...but the narrative didn't turn that way.

Instead, Randi discussed how all the major political figures in the Presidential race made known their condolences and all inserted God in them in some fashion. He noted that to his recollection, in all Russert's broadcasting career, despite all these important people doing so now on his behalf, never once had he invoked God or Jesus on the air. He just dealt in facts, because that was his job, and he was damn good at it, and that commanded respect.

...and with that, it was clear that it was no trick... 🙁

Tim Russert was a damn good newsman. I can't imagine who they could pick to replace him. My Sunday mornings won't be the same without him.

A very sad end to the life of a man that was a great asset to society. I feel that he made politics much more understandable for the average person. He focused on the hard issues and truly wanted answers to the hard questions. He never let his personal beliefs get in the way of the truth no matter how who he was interviewing. I defy anyone here to state with certainty what Tims political affiliation actually was. He did a great job of keeping his personal agenda to himself, so much so, that I could never determine what his personal political convictions were.

'Meet The Press' was not the same this morning.

I am hearing that Mr. Russert had some health problems, that his doctors had not detected.

Apparently, Mr Russert had just undergone a very thorough stress test just a month ago. It's scary to think that such a massive heart attack could happen so unexpectedly (USA today has an interesting story on this: http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2008-06-15-heart-attack-russert_N.htm?csp=34 )

Ya know, you hear so many stories of sudden tragic loss, and I always say to myself: "I gotta start living better." But give it a week -- life will resume as always, and the priceless lessons learned in such dramatic and terrible fashion will be forgotten again, victims of routine.

RIP TJR
