Well, chalk this one up to bad planning on my part. I have had several people inform me that with family in town and flying out on Sunday the 28th they would not be able to participate. That along with other factors have led me again, yes again to postpone the TMF Radio Idol show.

The new date is now:

JAN 10 2009 at 11pm EDT, on TMF Radio.

In addition, because of the delay, those of you with holiday submissions may still do that, or if you have already sent them in, we will still use them. However, if you wish to join in and not do a holiday themed, we will be accepting any talent that translates well to radio.

So again, please accept my apologies for moving this back again, but this contest is meant to be for the community, and we would like to give everyone a chance to participate!!!

Thanks, any questions please PM myself, Arstine or TMF Radio here in the forum.

Rob

Creating an .mp3 file

I saw Bohemianne give Kis123 some advice and I thought I'd try my hand.

Here's a simplified 3 step version:

1. You'll first need a capturing device (like a headset microphone) that you can plug into your sound card - a 1/8" stereo plug. Go to BestBuy or an electronics/computer store. They'll help you find something.
If you already have a mixer and microphone, all you need is the proper adapter cord to connect the mixer to your computer's sound card.
If you have Cakewalk or similar, you shouldn't need any help.

2. Then you need a .wav file program to form the input.
Lots for free on the web, and I think Windows has one built -in.

3. Now just convert the file to .mp3. Again, free stuff on the web, or you can burn it to .mp3 and load the CD into your computer.
A more advanced option would be an editing program. Lots of freeware out there. Just drop the .wav you created into the program and select .mp3 as the output file type. You can even add effects like delays and reverbs, and sound processing like compression and EQ.
A little editing chop here and there and you're ready for the big-time!::headbang:

Like anything new, it's best to play around with it and experiment with levels a little.

Arstine, Bohemianne, Alchemy, Artoo and I have a lot of experience with audio files, and I'm willing to bet a lot of others do too.
Any additional "input" is welcome. (sorry, bad pun)

Happy Holidays to All !!!

Oh thanks, but you explained it better than me. I'm more on "applications user" than electronically tech person as someone helps me with major set-up or so. Actually *you're* the real musical genius around here, as well as Drew70 (oops, just seriously) and the rest you mentioned above other than me. Maybe you should put up an informal tutorial on audio for similar events like this, but maybe you're too filled up or busy for that.

Thanks for the great advice even though I'm horrible with this stuff. I'll get a microphone when the budget allows me and play around with it a bit.

Everyone's help has greatly been appreciated!
