Red got some bad news today telling him he'd lost a lifelong mate. He's not the emotional sort, but it can't be easy when your best friend passes.

I just know that Red has several pals here that might like to send along some good thoughts. He's so used to you all taking the piss that he might get a bit confused though. 😉

......its all very un British this kind of thing but, then I forgot, Joby was an American and so she posted! but thanks all the same, i would not have dreamt of bringing it up myself. Thankyou all for your kinds words. I am more angry than anything else at the moment,at the waste of a life,and a rather inappropriate selfish feeling that he has left me behind and I dont like it!

With out giving all the depressing facts,he was an addict and died from heart problems relating to it, he dried out many times and got hooked again just as often. There are only so many things you can say, only so many variations on the theme of "come on mate stay off it,you know its best, think of your wife and kids".Hewas part of my piano trio since our school days so we have been an outfit for getting on for thirty years, me and my bass player tried the "hard cop soft cop" routine and every other routine but to no avail.

He was an extremely gifted musician, the kind that want to make you puke at the ease with wich they can read squashed flyshit at twenty paces,on any number of instruments, with a photographic memory to boot! I have seen him do things that have made hardened pro,s gasp in amazement.

Anway he will be up there now getting on Stan Getz,s tits telling him how to improve his breath controll!

Allow yourself that anger, Red. It's part of the healing process you'll need to let go. It's always sad to lose someone close. It's even more sad to lose someone through something like that. He no longer has to struggle with it. Now, you are free to move on from his addiction as well. Hang in there!

I'll add my condolences to those already posted here, Red. God watch over him and his family and friends, including you.

I've lost close friends too, but I keep the memories of some of the times we shared. Sometimes, late at night when I'm having a sip of single-malt, I remember those times and I don't feel completely abandoned by my lost friends. Funny, but those memories can still bring a smile to my face.
