To our East Coast members.

Washington Monument Damage.

CNN has slide show that shows the damage to the monument. It is now closed to the public until repairs are made.

Uh, wrong thread Carl. The topic here is Hurricane Irene.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone,. Here, they are forecasting rain and 25 mph winds. Hopefully, the center will stay away. if our power goes off, I have to go to an emergency management center because of my mom's oxygen.

Mitch

Sorry about that. I've been busy with posting earthquake stories, we will be dealing with Hurricane Irene come Sunday. :sorry:

No big deal, I've done it myself. It happens. Batten down the hatches and be safe. That's all that really matters. 🙂

ok..so up here in my area we are not too used to this, 1st the feeling of the earthquake the other day....now there is a possibility that this storm is coming across within miles of me as a cat `1 storm as I am right in the path in Coastal CT....

I don't remember hurricane gloria too much, but now as a home owner and a mother I am a bit concerned...

Right now they are placing ct at the end of the tunnel for a direct hit from a category 1. We are as prepared as we can be to sit it out. Hope all stay safe...

ignoring requests is half the fun! and yes im kidding before someone yells at me. we're bracing for impact and as long as the trees dont fall on my head, we'll be good 🙂 (course i forsee no power coming my way blech)

^I think I remember that you live in a low area which will be prone to flooding, so get prepared.^

WARNING: Do not park your vehicle under a tree in a high wind area. I remember a teacher of mine did not like where her car was parked, and later after she moved it a BIG LIMB came crashing down.

Well, let's see. At 7 AM, there was water in the grocery store. At 11 AM, there was none.

We grabbed the last flashlight and set of AA batteries, much to the chagrin of the people who arrived 10 seconds after us.

We are stocked up on peanut butter and crackers.

The patio is clear of potential debris.

I've become far too close with the local meteorologists.

Bring it on.

Friends hitting Hatteras with longboards. Not at all kidding. They'll take sets till it gets bad then bail. Hope they have video when they get back.
They've done it before and this is only Cat1.

We're expecting to get hit in NYC Sunday afternoon. Got plenty of non-perishable food!

It's so calm and quiet here right now, but tomorrow is when my part of VA gets hit. Thankfully it has gone down from a category 2 to a category 1. I'll probably lose power, so I might be gone for a few days.

To all my east coast friends. Please be safe everyone. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully most of the storm pans out to sea though it does not appear to be tracking that way at least as of a few hours ago.
