Ummm, just what does protective padding have to do with sexual orientation??? If you want to call them whimps, fine. That's true in many cases. But, orientation has nothing to do with it.

I DO agree that soccer and rugby can be more injurious due to the lack of padding. Perhaps part of the reason we Americans use it and you don't is that we have to pay through the nose for medical treatment? Just a thought.

I would think "protective padding" could be very usefull, in just the right place, if what your telling me is true, that a fair number of gay men play the sport.

Regarding your comments on sports injuries, firstly we have a thing called "tax" and its very high, much higher than you guys would tolerate, and thats how most of us pay for health care, secondly no proffesional sportsmen would be seen dead getting treatment on the national health, they all have very expensive private insurance, just like the good old U.S.A.

Just a thought.

You know, it's sad that we can't even have a sports thread go 6 posts before debate erupts. This thread was about getting behind your team, not about the sexual orientation of professional athletes, the pros and cons of private insurance or (YET ANOTHER) American vs. UK football diatribe. So let's get this out of the way...Football players in other countries don't wear pads...OK, you win, happy? Put it to rest, we all get it.

With all of the controversy surrounding baseball (strikes, salaries etc.), football is increasing in popularity every year. American football fans are passionate about their teams and their sport. Can we have one thread that doesn't erupt into debate and just have some fun?

It seems that every single time something comes up that relates in the most incoherant way to the US, everyone's got to put their (same) hat into the ring to once again tell us how much we suck, how much better than us everyone else is...blah, blah, blah...

We get the point. Let it rest. Let's just have some fun, or why the hell are we even here? Leave the debates for the debate threads, the politics for the politics threads and just talk some sports once in awhile.

Our players wear pads. Sorry. We deeply apologize. Every other country on the face of the Earth could kick our ass in sports...

...now can we get back to having fun?
