Todays music angers me

If I may roll the original question over and tickle it's little pink belly...

My problem with much of the current hit music is that it's so angry-sounding.
What happened to the great rock-n'-roll party bands? It all sounds pissed-off or depressed nowadays.
Same with the rap and much of the country stuff. It all just sounds to me like music to fight to. Certainly not the sort of thing I'd wanna fuck to, anyway.
Now, I can understand wanting to ocassionally get pumped up. I like to listen to heavier stuff while heading into work, for instance, just to get the blood flowing, but I can't understand how someone could listen to the harder stuff like today's rap and rock ALL THE TIME.

With music just like anything else, there will be opinions on what is good, what is bad and what shouldnt be made ever. But to have a good sense in music would be to be able to pick out a needle from a haystack and say its sharper than the rest. Yes there a lot of bands made just for selling records, and you could say real music is dead. To have a good taste in music is not saying that its dead, its just been drowned out by music which is made in a factory and by people pushing buttons. Obviously there are members of this forum who say the good days where before 1980 etc, but what they dont notice is that before 1990 it was their time and now its over 2000 and now its my time, and later on it will be another time for younger people. The thing im bothered about the most is that we have all these different genres and new ones coming out every 2 years or so, i wonder what music will be like in the future.
And if youd like to know what i listen to and believe is good music would be:
Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Blue Oyster cult, Alterbridge, Just a lot of rock, metal and punk. But i do have a great appreiciation for classics such as jonny cash and classical music.
Im not really fussed on dance trance rnb and hip hop,
Emo is a trend i'll never get into, personally i cant stand it, the same with goths. But i understand why it is cause its just like any other trend that is, that was and is going to be.

p.s. Im not good at spelling!!!! 🙂

I've noticed this growing trend, also. Its most certainly the ramifications of our changing social climate in our homes and neighborhoods. People get inspired by the things around them, and if its not positive, uplifting, or happy, then you get this depressive, vengeful, angry, defiant, rebellious, loud stuff instead. Properly maintained and balanced, its perfectly fine, but its too overdone these days.

Personally, I don't mind music sounding 'angry'. Heck, after a hard day theres nothing better than putting on some Rammstein and thrashing around a room. Try it, its really quite relaxing.

What I do NOT like is music thats depressing, which I feel seems to be the current trend more than anything. Heck, if I wanted to hear annoying little buggers whining about things crawling in their skin I'd throw some flesh eating maggots into a primary school thank you very much.

LOL! XD I had soooo much talk about that "He's opening closet!" one...god, I cant believe people liked that! Even south park made fun of that one! 😛 "Whats going to happen?! DId I feed my dooog?! When did I eat my dooog?!" 😉

Generally, I don't like "angry music". That means different things to different people, but for me it means anything which disturbs my peace, gets me out of the flow of the song, or something that may give me a headache if I listen for it for too long. Its generally where the singers are screaming to the top of their lungs rather than singing.

Gah! I freakin' hate angry music too! I know someone that is in to that kinda stuff, and I always give them a hard time about it, lol, kiddingly, of coarse. to me there's either happy music or sad music, lol, that's about it, cuz I'm usually either happy, sad, or so-so. When I'm angry, music isn't the first thing on my mind, so I usually avoid it... maybe that's why I'm not too fond of it...

I'm listenin' to the Chili Peppers right now. I love their style and their new stuff, but that's just me.

Temperment and current state of mood is important in musical selections. If I was to have a bad day, I want something thats going to comfort me and bring me back to myself, not something that thats screaming and hollaring, and talking about getting even and dominating and this really overbearing sense of hostility. Listening to angry music makes me feel more angry. I understand that its supposed to be able to be it's own comfort, in that "you're not alone", but it doesn't help. Just like listening to some sob story about death, loss of love, and misery isn't going to make me feel better when I'm depressed.

The idea that other people share in my proposed misery doesn't help me feel better; in actuality, it only proves that theres more misery beyond myself and thats even more depressing.

I don't want to hear about some punk kid whose sad and depressed and wants the world to make him feel better because he's too weak to do it himself, and I don't want to hear about some homeboy stickin' it to da man. I am the man, actually. Why would I want to listen to a song thats telling me how I don't run the streets and that I'm being fought against, day and night?

Wait, maybe if I listen I'll get some inside tip they don't want me knowing about. I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE! ROFL!

hmmmm... ya, if I'm sad or something, I can't just listen to happier music... my brain will just tune it out, pretty much... I have to listen to something that fits my mood... it's kinda like if it were in a movie or something like that, where the music ALWAYS has to match the current mood or it makes no sense... So, if I'm listening to a more up beat song when I'm depressed, it just doesn't trigger and really doesn't change me all that much... I'd rather just not listen to anything

Oh i hate the new chilli peppers stuff, its nothing compared to their old stuff. And rammstein rocks! specially live! 😛

I'm going to stand out here and say that I LOVE ANGRY MUSIC!
But only certain kinds...

Yes, listening to a story about some sad kid is depressing, but a lot of metalcore bands have changed the genre from "your not alone" to something more along the lines of "you can do it as long as you dont take any crap from anybody". Just listen to Hatebreed, their music is all about inner strength and perseverance. In fact, one of their best songs is called perseverance.

Im not fussed on hatebreed, but love the song i will be heard.
My fav band ---- Sepultura

That's cool! The main reason I'm not a fan of their older music is that I don't like hearing the "F" word like, every other word in songs... That's just me, though. When I started liking them, I was hearing the newer stuff (Californication and on) and I liked it. So, that's why. Everyone always seems to like either one or the other, lol.

My schedule isn't busy, anything but.😀

My main message is that music cannot, by it's definition, go downhill.

If you only download what you want, I fail to see the problem here.

radio clock my friend, it doesn't play CD's

I hate U2 (the band) more than anything else on this earth. I want to slit Bono's throat and bathe in his blood.

Thank you. I hate them.
Frank Zappa is a god. Is that Captain Beefheart in your other photo?

Correct me if I'm wrong but hip hop has come down a long brown road from it's once great soul and funk of the 70's.

Funk is some of the most repetitive music ever. Be-bop, on the other hand, that's some amazing stuff. Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, etc. Not what I usually listen to, but it's amazing.

yea repetitive music is really dull, And i do like californication, love it actually, first song i learnt on guitar. And yes U2 suck balls, i know someone whos friend is bono's niece and they hate him XD !!!
An out of the blue question --- Does anyone have the windows dancer? Its the weirdest thing ive ever seen, specially the fat on called ben..

I'm not saying this to be racist because I dislike eminem as much as I do most other rappers but it's getting ridiculous the crap they are comming out with these days. For the most part I don't listen to anything past 1990 but some bands are ok in my mind (modest mouse, sam roberts) but the hip hop and rap and country genres lack in the very fabric that makes for good music. They are for one repetitive, both in lyrics and topics of songs (rap being about ones nines and gangsters, country about losing ones loved one). Correct me if I'm wrong but hip hop has come down a long brown road from it's once great soul and funk of the 70's. All we seem to make now for music is by fabricated bands and brothers from the hood who couldn't play an instrument if their lives depended on it. Instead they rip classics and turn them into crap (other than he got game that was a sweet song and any classified song(maritime writer)) Your opinions and critisms are appreciated.

I have to agree and I have been giving this some thought. Rap form takes no talent to be able to do. Now don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are some very talented rappers out there, I'm saying as a form of music it takes next to nothing do be able to do it. The form is very base and repetitive and something I'm not interested in at all. I mean at LEAST let's have a key signature!!!!

Hip hop is actually really creative. Anything mainstream nowadays is shit. It's just garbage. But if you dig and actually take the time to look, you will find music that's good. And there is some great hip hop out there. Yeah, sampling other songs is a part of it, but turning that sample into something else, in a more creative way than what is done in the mainstream, is pretty cool. And hell, The Roots, actually play instruments, not just rap over pre-recorded beats and such.

I just made a thread about good underground and mainstream rap. Check it out:

I agree that hip-hop overall is quite creative. To me, it's the rap portion that's just done to death.

My beef is with today's rock music. I can't bear to listen to the current stuff that gets radio play. It's just all so pissed-off(read: whiny)-sounding. I've said this before, but what the hell happened to rock-&-roll as fun, party music? Everything I hear on the radio sounds like the kinda shit you listen to before going to shoot-up your school. Rock needs a fuckin' enema.

You say you don't like country music? So then you don't like any kind of rock and roll of course, because that's where it came from. You know, the older I get, I realize that most folks gravitate towards the music of their youth and high school days. I listen to some of the most dischordant stuff out there, yet I still have soft spot for 80's pop -- don't sweat what's popular.

Most popular music isn't worth the vinyl/polycarbonate/digital medium that it's printed on (see also: Sturgeon's Law). Most popular music in America is directed at pleasing radio programmers (read: Clear Channel). Most of those jokers know less about music than I know about nuclear physics. Yet they control what we hear and what form our mainstream musical culture takes. You only need watch an amateur musician or singer on American Idol trying to impress music industry honchos to witness the debasement wrought by focus groups and scientific marketing.

There is well-performed, conscious hip-hop and there are amazing scratch DJ's out there, just as there's rock out there that powers a party a lot more effectively than much of what's in the top-40. You just have to hit up the independent record shops in your town (if any) and scour the web more thoroughly for the good stuff.

`Tis true what you say, kopfhorer. As formula as most radio stations are these days, people have so many more options available now! There's satellite, the Web, iPods, even entire free TV channels of various styles of music. Thanks to the digital age, anyone who chooses to can find so many wonderful things out there. I'm no sound-hound like you, and there are entire forms of music I've never really had a chance to hear. So, yeah, I'm having a decent time these days, just discovering what all is out there.

I don't know what the answer is for ad-$-driven radio to survive. Even many of the music stations don't play much music anymore. It seems to all be going to "talk"-format. I don't know how many indie or college stations are still around, playing whateverthefuck they want.

Anyone have any really great stations in your area playing whatever pleases them?

It isn't in my area, but WFMU has yet to do wrong by me!

What's your take on good old Dr. Demento?
I snag old episodes off of newsgroups now and then.
I used to know a guy who lived in a tiny shack behind his parent's place. No heat or running water. Just power. And a frackin' giant antenna on the roof! Depending on conditions, he could pick up broadcasts from hundreds of miles away. He was a tremendous fan of "The Doctor". Interesting character.
