Also 17 years ago the DDT was the most devestating finisher of its era until the Undertaker killed it by sitting up after recieving one.

He sat up from two if memory serves. :wow: WM 8, yeah?

Correct, and I'm glad he killed it.. The move wasn't much at all. Taker took two of them, sat up and destroyed Roberts.

What the hell was I thinking!!!???!!!???

Shawn effing Michaels!!!

Even as a heel I loathed this little turd. I always hated the guts of the character and longed for the Bulldog or Bret to snap him in two.

I believe Dibiase was a face early on, and a face in the UWF before he went to WWE.

Dibiase was a face in the NWA in the good old days.

I remember when Mr. Wrestling II, I believe, broke his neck with a series of pile drivers outside the ring.

-----

So let me throw together a list (in no particular order):

A) The Four Horsemen

B) Freddy Blasie

C) Vince McMahon (as much as I hate his guts)

D) De-generation X...to this DAY I hate X-puke.

E) Jumping Johnny Defazio!...ok, not really, but I just wanted to mention the name! LOL

Sting of course was victorious and in that other forum for top 20 greatest wrestlers its a damn shame that Sting wasnt mentioned by ANYONE!!!

I LOVE Sting. He is my favorite wrestler ever, of all time, and is the reason I ever started watching wrestling in 1997 in the first place. But I think the main reason no one has ever mentioned him is because Sting has never really been a heel. Oh, maybe for a short stint or two here and there, but he's been almost a constant face his whole career, and those few times he did try to play heel, he wasn't that good at it. He's just too over to be a believable heel.

No Mimi I agree that Sting has no place on this topic I was referring to the "20 Greatest Wrestlers of all Time" topic. Sting won the NWA/WCW championship 10 times I believe. He beat Ric Flair when Flair was in his prime and took the NWA belt from him despite 4 Horseman interference. And since you started watching wrestling in 97 you know what he did to the NWO. I have to admit though in Starrcade 98 Sting vs. Hogan one of the biggest matches in wrestling history, Sting was the heavy favorite lurking in the rafters, dropping down from the ceiling to strike terror in Hollywood Hogans black heart. However when the bell rang Hogan beat the shit out of Sting, gave him the big boot and leg drop and the ref counted 3...Bret Hart comes out and says the count was too fast(????) one of the worst spins in wrestling history. Hart had the match restarted and Sting won by submission. The fans were outraged even though they hated Hogan most people felt he won the match. WCW bowing to popular opinion as it always did stripped Sting of the WCW championship and held it up for a rematch between Hogan and Sting. Sting won that match (with Randy Savages help) and was champ again. Sting actually played a heel in the dying days of WCW but his heart wasnt into it and despite the urging of the story writers refused to insult the fans. The fans didnt buy it and cheered Sting no matter what he did. I would say that heel turn was the worst angle so Sting was the worst villian in wresting history. Gene Snitsky is headed for the best! :sowrong:

Regarding Sting....

Actually, Sting began as "Flash", one half of The Blade Runners, along with "Rock" (who would later become The Warrior). The team didn't do that great, mostly because people recognized them as Road Warrior ripoffs.
Then, in the UWF, he and Rick Steiner were a heel tag team that held the belts. Not too long after that, NWA bought UWF, and Sting turned face. And you're right...he was much better as a face.
Personally, I never liked the "Crow" version of Sting. Bring back the wild colors, and the howling at the sky😀

The Sean Man

I remember those old 'Sting' days. As a big UWF fan I remember when Sting first turned face. He was the bodyguard for "Hotstuff" Eddie Gilbert. Eddie stated no one could ever match up to him in the ring. That's when Sting made his move (or I should say the fans made it for him). He began a turn against Eddie and the rest is Sting history. I didn't mind so much his matches as the Crow Sting, but I like to remember his match against Ric Flair that went the distance. I think that's the one match that put him 'over' for good.

Well.......

If we're talking heels that have done ALOT for opening up wrestling, my list still stands-

Hogan, Hall, and Nash opened up WCW for 82 weeks straight in the ratings war, and almost killed WWF

Austin as heel opened up WWF, and brought life back to the stale cartoonish shit that was being put out there....

BUT....

If we're talking heels that had the WHOLE package, then my list is redone....
------------------------------------

5. Shawn Michaels and HHH- D-X, easily one of the top heel factions of all time

4. Flair was good, in the sense he KNEW how the business worked, and how to play a crowd damn well....

3. Jake Roberts- pre-face and again heel turn, before WM 3....just the way he could look into the camera, and talk in such a low voice that you had to crank the volume up just to hear what the hell he was saying....back in his time, he was the shit, always shoving his python's head into his defeated opponent's mouth and such....

2. Taker- redefined what being a heel was about, by no-selling moves and such, and just destroying a path thru anyone....lost that edge turning face the first time....

1. This one's a tie....

a. Killer Kowolski
b. Freddie Blassie
c. Buddy Rogers

====================================

It really is hard to pick just 5 of the greatest heels of all time, as there honestly have been so damn many....

Side note; Andre was a face almost all of his career, fighting a heel Hogan in the very early 80's, in the WWWF, no less, where Hogan got his ass squashed....

5 More That I Forgot To Mention...

1.Freddie Blassie-He was so hated by the fans (and the feeling was mutual) that when he bought a new cadillac fans set fire to it completely ruining it! Missed him on my first list.
2.Larry Zbyzsko-His heel turn against Bruno Sammartino, his mentor was at the time the most despicable act a wrestler ever committed.
3.Terry Funk-Dusty Rhodes,Ric Flair,Junkyard Dog,etc. all felt pain inflicted by this tough as nails madman who would do ANYTHING to get fans to hate him.
4.Big John Studd-Andre the Giants most hated foe.
5.Ravishing Ric Rude-A true cocky son of a bitch both inside and outside the ring as well as a very sucessful one.

Honorable Mention: The Great Muta,Tully Blanchard,Triple H and Jerry "The King" Lawler
