I foresee alot of work for you, making sure any boss is beatable at any given level... I figure stats are pretty easy to scale, but the various attacks and abilities...x.x Knowing you you probably figured out an easy way to do that, though. 🙂
Venus with 150 stamina regen at level 30, win!
You, my friend, are under the false impression that it seems most are: that I intend for Lady Venus to be beatable at level 30. I doubt she'll have any ability that will simply nuke you (that's for the final boss alone), but I feel most will find themselves asking "Was overleveling really worth it?" It is canon to the story that Mamono grow and evolve based on the strength of those they encounter.
You aren't meant to power your way through the game, you're meant to use what the Mamono lack to beat them: human ingenuity. They are, after all, supernatural entities. That's why so much is going in place to penalize the traditional RPG method of "Powerlevel and sweep". Because that very logic puts you at the greatest risk when facing the Mamono. Here's a bit of a head's up: all Mamono you encounter who AREN'T level 30, are holding back their power. Level 30 is the real strength of the Mamono.
The game is difficult because I'm trying to put a bit of realism in here. The truth of the matter is, in real life you aren't going to suddenly stomp the Balrog just because you kicked around a couple imps. And most humans wouldn't even be a match for those imps. That's why I've added the Giggle Goblin partner, to give you a previously lacking edge: muscle. The Mamono are, at the heart of the matter, more powerful than you. That's just a simple fact relating to your being a physically inferior creature. So, here's the heads up, later in the game it will take more brains and strategy than brawn to win. Take for example the fight with the Chuckle Oni. When she becomes enraged, your attacks are near useless while hers are just pummling you. The way to win is to NOT attack until she calms down, just ride out the storm.
The final boss, spoiler, will include one of my favorite tactics first encountered in Chrono Cross. You'll need to tickle her in the right order to win, otherwise she will be unbeatable. And every time you break the order? It resets, forcing you to start the chain over. The game will point out that order to you, you'll just need to pay attention, maybe even take notes, to keep track of it.
Another boss will test your mind, asking you riddles and attacking every time you get one wrong. There will be Mamono that are frankly better to run from, simply because they are just so powerful you'll be wasting very precious resources for very little return (odds are, you'll want to beat just one for the Codex entry then run from any others). Some Mamono force you to pay attention to do anything at all to them. For example, have you tried tickling Honey Bee's belly when she's flying? You'll find it far less effective than it was previously. The game says you can "just barely reach her" hm...wonder what that means you should do?
Just little things like these. I know in another thread, and in other forums, people have said they don't like games that are all about standard plink plonk shing style fighting. I'm trying to alleviate that as much as possible without completely breaking the game.
