Tower of Gargalesis (Tickling RPG M/F, F/F, F/M)

I think the problem some of us players have is that we play the generic RPG. The generic RPG would imply that smart use of skill and level will allow us to beat most things we come across. I personally never really use health potions or anything in any RPG i have. Not even WoW PVP. I just don't. But, i changed that real quick for this game, studied how you intended it to be played, and it worked out nicely. I did struggle some with the mage, and pulled my hair out a bit, but eventually, you figure out what you're doing wrong and right, and modify it as needed. I am VERY impressed with the overall combat design. It took some getting used to, but i really enjoy puzzle fights. I look forward to more of it being implemented. Please continue with this Tower series. I really want to buy RPG maker now, just so i can throw together something and see how well it works. The overall acceptance of your game is overwhelming. As i haven't really contributed anything to your cause, or to the forums, this game is certainly an inspiration to give something back. Anywho, carry on. (MY wayward son?)

I'm going to try to fix it, but bear in mind is IS going to require me to completely overhaul the database.

*First, I'll see if making apparel available sooner fixes it. If so, I'm not overhauling things.

**Allowing level 6 armor at level 5 drops Bee down to doing on average around 20 some damage to a Mage. Does that sound more reasonable?

***And...at level 6 you will absolutely steamroll Honey Bee because you get Tickle Wisp. I've changed Orange Juice to be available for purchase at level 5, and it's also available through the Bar Game as a prize (50 points for 5 Orange Juices [which equals 10 heals]).

From my testing, making the armor available just one level earlier completely fixed everything. Going one level passed the armor level isn't breaking, and getting the next one level earlier isn't breaking. I think that solves this whole dliemma without a total database overhaul.

That's what I call customer support. 😉

Here's a sneak peak of what I've been working on...you might want to save this attachment for reference.

*It looks like I'm going to get all the eventing and mapping done tonight...yet again it's writing the tickling that has me stopped cold. I'll see how it turns out...no promises though. (definitely doing smaller updates next time, having to write 3 Codex Entries, 3 Victory Scenes, and 5 Game Overs for one update is killing me).

**Writing is the only thing left to do...that and a few quest updates here and there. After that, the 3.2 beta will be ready for release.

Just a thought that popped into my mind...Since you'll most likely require more writing help in the coming chapters(who can blame you...) maybe it'd be a good idea to look for one devoted person to help you with all the writing. I think that might be more successfull than using "random" people whenever you get stuck. There'll be only 2 (slightly, maybe?) different styles, so it'll all fit better. I suck at explaining.

No I agree...expect PMs to be sent out tonight actually. The writing is all I have left to do for Chapter 2 to be complete (this is not counting bonus stuff, such as the Giggle Goblin pet quest, Hathor, Aello, and more Honey Bee options).

Writing the storyline for any RPG, not just a tickling one, can be difficult. Your doing a great job on it though and I'm sure there will be more great stuff in future chapters not just Chapter 2. 🙂

Wow, excellent! I can't wait to see the next beta.

I have just a couple questions: Will Knismesis Village be the only village in the game, or are you planning to put in other villages? It's not like I'm pushing for a new town at all, I'm just wondering if you had one in mind. Also, I played the bar game with the Soldier and decided to lose to check out the scene, and the barmaid focuses mostly on the Soldier's neck, when the general weakness of the soldier is the thighs. Was this intentional? I couldn't be sure.

Other than that, everything looks nice and smooth. It's a nice difficulty level all around, IMO. Good luck with the next beta!

The Soldier has 2 possible tortures because Kleptmaniac wrote the neck scene by accident. I loved it so much I had to put it in.

Yes Knismesis will be the only village in the game. That will get explained later.

Trying a run through with a Mage and a Soldier, wanting to see how these guys play out in comparison to the Archer overall. Personally, the Archer feels very balanced, but also easy to play because I don't need to guess at the Mamono tickle spots 😉 I'm sure that won't help as much later on, but it still makes for a nice advantage so far.

Something I want to pipe up and say is that I love the way the scenes in the bar game work out. It really is awesome to see so much attention given to all the tickle spots. That way us fans of upperbody tickling, or mid-tickling, or even just all-over tickling, don't feel left out 😉

I'm not just making this post in praise though! There is a minor oddity that happens in this latest version that I haven't seen posted on: When I've finished talking to the little girl in front of the pub when I first come into town, my character gets pushed away several spaces for no reason that I can see. The dialogue doesn't seem to hint at this happening, and it just feel weird. It's happened every time since I started up with this latest Beta, but it didn't happen in the version that I first started with.

Was this done on purpose?

EDIT: Another minor problem found! Well... more something that makes it impossible to beat the game 😛 The Old Codger Quest has a part where you gather Grape Fruit Juice from his house. That juice is consumable, meaning that you could accidentally drink it and the quest won't end, meaning that you can't interact with Silver, can't get the Codex, and can't complete Honey Bee's training. Although I can understand making that some kind of punishment, it seems like it would be easier on the player to just make the juice a key item that they can't consume.

Oh, and thanks for the answer on the girl's pushback 🙂 It makes sense now.

I had this thought Deus.

If you're going to call it archer, you should make something that suits an "archer"

For example: Using the feathery end of an arrow to tickle. Maybe make class-exclusive weapons so that can happen. You made class exclusive armor so why not this?

There is a bow later, it's a class specific hidden weapon. That said, I may change the class to "Ranger" since it fits that classification better.

@Fox- Yes that was intentional, it was supposed to be you moving out of the little girl's way so she can keep frolicking.

*I added a feature that was requested a while back. You can now specify how much Tickle Essence you want to trade to the Trade Mamono. Hurrah! It was easier than I thought it would be.

Got room for some more scripting help? I could be of assistance with some dialog.

2.12.10

BETA V3.2: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QB37MA3J

Here it is, Chapter 2 at long last. Special mega thanks to Celerich, Kleptomaniac, and Xtreme for your help.

Everything should be working properly. There are tons of Orange Juices and Energy Drinks hidden in the tower, to help with the rather difficult boss fight. You can also win Tomato Juice, Orange Juice, and Fruit of Knismesis from the Bar.

The Giggle Goblin pet can be found now, you may have a slight difficulty seeing it (She's at the Arrival Point). Just a warning, she won't be too helpful until you level her up a bit. When she is knocked out in battle, you'll have to wait for her to recovery before you can use her again. She only recovers on the world map, but don't worry the game will tell you when she is ready.

I didn't update Honey Bee, Aello, or Hathor...I'll get them in a partial update. For now, I think the tower will be enough to keep you busy.

Let me know if there are any problems. Thanks!

Ugh.
*if I had glasses i'd take them off and squeeze rub my eyes before putting them back on*
Where do I start...

First of all: The difficulty. I know it's supposed to be hard but half the time slug keeps spaming heal and guard abilty and this is even worse with Slime! Can you at least separate those abilities so it's not as frustrating? Or at least stop soft slime from spamming heal and guard all the time?

Second: When I summon the goblin, I cant switch back to my own self. I have to deal with this goblin even out of battle. And if it's weak that's even worse! Then it's gave over and game shattering if I saved while having that goblin!

Well i faced the slime.. I can't find a single weak point and it just keeps spamming big moves and leaving me helpless. I can't heal fast enough to keep up with it's massive damage and gaurding.
There is nothing i can do to get past it. i really like the update but please lower the difficulty a bit if you can.

I did a bit of a rushed run to see how far I could get with my level 6 Archer, pushing the level cap to see just how bad it was 😉

The Slime, as everyone is saying, is pretty tough... and I'm praying this is the super hard boss that you're talking about and not a sub-boss like the Dryad 😛 I actually managed to keep up with it in terms of healing from the damage it gave me, but its attack pattern did not allow me to do enough damage to take it down. It would constantly heal itself by draining me for as much as 50 life. And then it would heal 16 of its own HP every time that it guarded, where upon I could only attack it for 15 at the most. While guarding, it would also heal almost all of the Adrenaline used for the drain attack, allowing it to use it again and then guard again. This pattern seems almost unbeatable, and it seemed to drain whenever it was able.

It also kept inflicting me with a status of the Slime Trap. I don't know what that status effects, so it didn't bother me at the time, but I got the impression that it effected my speed, which wasn't too big of a problem.

Now, mind you, I looked back over myself and saw that I didn't have the absolute best armor equipped, which I'm sure effected things, but I DID have the paintbrush equipped from the Cuckoo quest, so I had the best weapon possible, which just wasn't enough damage for how much she could heal herself.

So, yeah, I was at the absolute highest level that you recommended for beating this part, and it felt pretty unbeatable at the Slime simply because of her healing abilities. Way more damage and ability to heal than I could ever hope to dish out at this point.

Of course, I'm going to try again and use the better armor (Which gives me an additional 2 points of defense), but I'm also going to try restarting and playing the game over from the beginning so that I can see if I missed anything that might've made a difference. For instance, I'm pretty sure that I missed the Giggle Goblin pet somehow because I cannot find it at that arrival field.

However, I'm not going to write this off yet! Lady Venus gave me a wicked trip when I first fought her and I came back to pull out a win. I firmly believe it's possible here too... Just really, really difficult 😛

Ah yes due to my stubbron nature i tried a couple more times. I can safely say i give up against that slime right now. She is a beast of evil jello she is.

Okay with luck I was able to get through and beat Bleezebebe. After her is this the part where you haven't done anything else? Because I still see a ???????? in the yousei codex

Ugh.

I'd assume, with the second deal, you were fighting a Feather Bug that called for help. Otherwise, every enemy should de-summon the Goblin upon defeat. Taking that into account I've reworked the end battle scripting on the Feather Bug, and it should work as intended now.

I dropped the Guard regen rate from 10% to 2%, which should make a significant difference on the Slime, and should make it negligible on the slug. I just did a test battle with a level 4 Soldier, and I beat the Slime without ever having to heal myself or use techniques. Just straight forward attacking.

For those wondering about Slime Trap...you may want to watch your health carefully. Slime Trap removes your evasion and degenerates your health over time (nothing serious I think a 2% drain).

BETA V3.21: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U68YJW00

Try this, let me know if it's more feasible. Slime, Guard, and the Feather Bug victory protocol were the only things changed. I'd do more extensive testing, but if I don't shower and get to work, I'm going to bomb an English assignment. Good luck.

*And that missing Mamono in the Codex is the same Mamono that has been missing since Chapter 1. She's late game, ignore her. I seriously doubt, if you're having trouble with a level 6 Soft Slime, that you'll want to tackle a Mamono whose minimum level is 20. 😛

I like to try these updates from the start, so I can't keep up with you guys. :sweatdrop:

Did the chapter 2 update change anything in chapter 1?

Lady Venus and Dryad have a lower Regen rate and I think Honey Bee had something changed, but other than that nothing major.

*Also in the coming 3.22 Beta, based on comments I've received, the Slayer has been...nerfed quite a bit. It should still be the easiest class to play, without making the game absolutely laughable. (pun intended). The nerfs are as follows:

The Slayer and the Mage now have the same Stamina rate. Previously the Slayer was at a whopping 95% of the norm, while the Mage has 80% of the norm. The Slayer is now at 80% of the norm, rendering his/her Stamina at...24 at level 1.

Lethal Tickle has been given a huge nerf. It does the same damage but now it can be used only 3 times per fight. Use it wisely.

Hey! Lurker here, brought out by this game, as so many others XD

Anyway, are the links you're sending merely Add-ons (they do not require deleting the old file and restarting), or the complete game + new stuff (as in, the older files need to be cleared for room)?

You should only have to copy the Save.dat file. Just copy that, delete the old folder, paste that in the new folder you unzipped and it should work just fine. I may be describing it wrong...maybe someone who has been doing this can explain better. None of the updates from this point out should require a restart UNLESS something Game Breaking comes up (such as the glitch with the Feather Bugs that prevented the Giggle Goblin from being Desummoned), though that may not be breaking...it should be fixed by going into a fight and having the Goblin lose.

ok well yeah im still using the previous one and so on but i need to ask something WHO THE HECK IS TIARA >.< ive talked to EVERYONE in town and no one responds... its really starting to piss me off. honestly if your going to have a quest that requires you to find people by name? make it easy to find those people... because seriously i couldnt even find the silver guy for a bit....

... REALLY?!?! THATS HER NAME?!?!... i mean gee she so obviously hints that that is her name because it says TICKLE FAIRY and not TIARA >.< LOL but seriously ill try and talk about stuff after i beat the second version untill then i will scrape this stuff with my slayer atm XD

OH MY GOD! you've got to be kidding me. dose everything on this quest have to be a total pain? it tells me to test it on a mamono but SUPPRISE SUPPRISE if i go into a random battle there is no way to use it >.< WHAT THE HECK!
