A) was indeed the lie. If I am not invited to a Seder, then I really can't celebrate Passover. That happens half the time.

A) I have been to an excellent Italian restaurant in Washington DC.

C) is true. In 1982, to celebrate getting tenure, I took all my relatives in NYC to Lutece for dinner. It was then the most acclaimed French restaurnt in NYC, owned by its world-famous chef, Andre Soltner.
It was a fabulous meal and cost me over a month's after tax salary.
 
A) was the lie. I have been to Washington DC only twice in my adult life and never ate in any Italian restaurant there.
