Maybe it's because I'm older now but I don't really care one bit.
One person, a toddler from Mexico, died in Texas. Texas has, like, 72 million people. Probably about an 8th of those die of just the regular flu every year.
The animal-to-human jump is a bit of a worrisom issue - things that mutate like that, which are already nonliving to begin with, are harder to kill. But in Texas more people die of the bubonic plauge and rabies every year than of swine flu ( so far - mwuahahahahaaaa!)

No. That doesn't even make sense, if you think about it. One in 8 Texans dead every year, just from flu? Everyone would know someone who died of flu, each year (you know 8 people, right?). How many of the people you know died of the flu last year?
In fact Texas has about 25 million people. And in the US as a whole roughly 35,000 people die from ordinary flu every year. That's a little more than 1 in every 10,000 people.
