Forget this IQ discussion

We've had this bloody discussion about IQs before, but obviously only a few were intelligent enough to understand it, or so it seems... 😛

There's no such thing as an objective intelligence factor. Most IQ tests are restricted to 3 areas: language and mathematical intelligence, and the ability to understand technical problems. Almost no test includes social, arts, or practical intelligence. So a person with a high IQ from an average test may have no abstractive skills whatsoever, he may be too dumb to hit a nail with a hammer, or he may be a total asshole concerning his behaviour in society. Conversely, a person with a low IQ may be a perfect painter or sculptor, an excellent craftsman, and/or a very likeable, nice guy/girl. So, what's that important about your IQ? What does the IQ say about a person? Forget it.

Furthermore, even the regular IQ tests only compare your intelligence with that of your age group. Therefore, somebody may have had a high IQ as a child, but a comparatively low one if he/she repeats the test for their age group 20 years later.

My sergeant during army service brought it to the point when he was asked to undergo an IQ test for further promotion. He refused with the words: "I know I'm stupid, I don't need a written confirmation for that!" He was wiser than many high-IQ people... 🙄

hal can't join the group.

but we can still meet him for some oktoberfest ale.

Steve no one who believes America is selfless and practically angelic in morality is a genius. By the way I scored 185 on my IQ test.

well, steve.....

.....I'll gladly stay if we could discuss things in a 'peaceful' way. I just don't like it, if somebody comes up with posts like 'If the US tells you to do something, you better jump - and that's as it should be' :sowrong: because this is not only wrong - it's a very dangerous opinion for all of us (Americans included).

big jim. i actually wasn't talking to you. the people i had in mind were trpak, and our own little shinning ice. there is a u.s. hater or the worst stripe.

steve

I was half-sure that you weren't talking to me mate, but I've been hauled over the coals for said offence in the past. You touched on the subject again and I wanted everyone's opinion on the 6 people/1 whole nation thing.

Since we're talking about high IQ's, does having one of 178 and being registered with Mensa since I was 13 count?

oh! ok now i understand...that's what's wrong with you...lol
would you believe both my older brothers turned down membership with mensa, after attending one meeting? it's true, lol. they both said they were boring!lol

hal is correct about i.q.'s. they are more a measure of potential, than true intelegence. look at ice for example.

I would believe it actually. They can be very boring. Sadly, although my IQ is high, my ability to read mathematical symbols is roughly the equivalent to a 2 month old embryo. Thus I don't tend to get on too well at said meetings. (I havn't even spoken to another member for over 5 years.)

I do look at Ice, quite often in fact. 😀 He and I agree on quite a lot of things politically, although he doesn't agree with me about all the Machieavelian things. Ice tends to be blunter and more succint than myself, but we otherwise agree on most things.
