Virus Alert!!!

Well, I just got done trying to fix my computer. 30 minutes ago, I went on KaZaA, hoping to download some pics.
I found one entitled "tickling.jpg" so I downloaded it. When it finished, I went to open it. It wasn't a pic at all. It was a virus! The love bug virus if im not mistaken. It began infecting my other files all over my computer. I immediately ran Norton Anti-Virus. After it was done, I had lost all of my MP3's, movies, and pictures (2.5 gigs of pictures!!!).
So I am giving you all a heads up. Any file that has .vbs added onto the end may be a virus. My pic said "tickling.jpg.vbs" but I didn't notice till it was too late.

I wonder if you had Kazaa's virus blocker switched on or not. This should block any files with dodgy extensions.

I guess the moral of the story is don't trust anything and take lost of care, as with any p2p app. i'd like to know how a virus ended up with a filename like 'tickling'. 😕

Hey UT, do you have a firewall as well? I have the Zone Alarm firewall and if any kazaa invader or virus trys to come through it stops them in their tracks. Just thought I'd mention it in case you didn't.

I got burned by the JS/Seeker.t virus this is a javascript virus so I got it from a website running some JAVA applet. Luckily Mcafee's virus shield caught it and allowed me to delete it. It did change my home page to the website where I caught the virus and added that website to my favorites list. Those things I changed to avoid recatching the virus and I upgraded my Microsoft Internet explorer 5.0 to a version that stops such attacks. This is a good thing to do if you have a old version of the web browser.

The virus itself will find every JPG and MP3 on your computer, delete them, and replace them with "Filename.JPG/MP3.VBS". This means that you lose all your files, even if you run an anti virus. It took it about .0000000000000001 seconds to destroy months of downloading and collecting :

Click on this link........ www.zonelabs.com and follow the instructions. They have a free version and a pay version. Decide what level of security you want and go for it. Mine has already buggered the chances of a hacker on this very forum several times. (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE YOU PATHETIC PRICK! ) and the anti virus just provides a useful backup.

Do you guys that have firewalls have any problems with slowdowns or running programs like games? I think when too much stuff piles up in the sytstem tray then sometimes it's hard to run other programs. For me I like video games and they are particulary sensitive to this sort of stuff.

Well I tried to jump on the firewall bandwagon and all I got for my troubles was a humongous computer crash which I was just able to recover from. Luckily I am up to my old unprotected yet functioning computer system. I have sent an email to the company in question to see if they can remedy the situation. However I think I will just ask for my money back.
