VOTE DAMN IT

I can't wait for this to all be over. I actually saw a sign in a front yard in Ferguson, MO that said "VOAT 4 OBAMA"

A friend of mine who lives in Missouri told me that the people coming to her house campaigning has been non-stop this year. She told me her neighbors have two signs in their yard, one for Obama, one for McCain. I even saw a few Nader/Gonzales signs today.

We have a guy named Dr. Gorniak running for county coroner, there's signs EVERYWHERE. Personally, with that name I think he should run for County Mad Scientist, but that's just me :evilha: :frankie:

If I ever run for public office, I'm legally changing my last name to something insane so they have to put it on all the signs.

Gotta' have your bases covered in that state. I'll bet she has the Obama sign on the part of her property that's in Mis-'sou-ree, and the McCain sign's on the part of her property that's in Mis-'sou-rah. 🙂

At this point I just want it OVER, and I don't want a repeat of this:

If you say Mis-sour-ah, they send you back to Illi-noise

If the others are "lolcatz", then would these ones be... ..."polcatz"? :upsidedow

I'll see your polcat and raise you one:

Personally, I get a real kick out of voting.

My first General Election was in 2005, aged 21 - I had missed out on the general election in 2001 because I was only 17, and I would have dearly loved to have voted in the 1997 General Election, such was my interst at the time and the age of 13. Tony Blair was getting my vote on every occasion btw.

I savoured my chance to vote - not because of how hard won the vote is - but because I saw it as a rite of passage.

When you are entrusted with making a decision on whom to elect as the leader of your country for four or five years - it is awe inspiring.

I will be turning out in 2009 (or 2010) to vote for Gordon Brown.

Being Sarah Palin?

Just for the record, I DID go vote. The place is only about 2 miles from me so I figured what the hell, I'll have a bit of fun with it. You will NEVER guess who I voted for (no really, you won't).

:wavingguy: High-five! You guessed it!!! I figured someone would say she was giving the "Heil Hitler" salute in front of a lit divider that looks suspiciously like the SS-style lightning bolt, but the correct answer is, "Running for VP while being Sarah Palin"!

Nice job! You win the no-prize! 😀

The Swedish Chef? No one would guess him, because he doesn't have American citizenship.

Well I might as well be in the dog house with the rest of the non-voters. That's right I didn't vote. I'm not even registered to vote. Why I refuse to vote? because I don't think my opinion really matters in this country. It's just going to be another asshole in the white house.

i understand what your saying. i feel like what the mexicans say about voting in mexico no matter who you vote for it does not matter nothing will ever change. and i agree i voted but i don't think anything will ever change no matter who wins.. million dollar people can't understand blue collar joes like me... the rich get richer the poor get poorer just my 2 cents

I was going to keep my mouth shut... but screw it.

It's not a guilt trip at all IMO. But if a person doesn't vote and things don't go their way, I feel they don't have a right to complain about it either!

If a person wants to sit at home and not exercise their voting rights, they have the choice to do so and I really don't care. I just don't and won't understand why they would want to.

Here's my perspective on voting:

It's a great thing. As many people as possible should exercise their right to vote.

But voting seems so meaningless to me. It's such a small part of democracy to me.

Voting is irrelevant if we as a people don't get off our @$$ and keep the country great.

You can't just vote and expect everything to change for the better, that's not how it works. IMO, voting is but the first step of true democracy. The next step is taking action.

I don't vote.

Not only because [I think] politicians are only out for themselves, but because I'd rather take REAL action then place a vote that may or may not matter.

Politicians are not going to change a damn thing in our lives if we don't change ourselves.

I don't rely on anybody else to do for me. I do for myself and others.

To me placing a vote every 2-4 years is useless if you don't get off your @$$ and give back to your community, support your family, work your @$$ off and give back to your country.

You wanna vote? Great, fine, that's fantastic. I got no problem with that.

But to think voting's more important than serving, giving back and working your butt off to keep this country great is ridiculous in my estimation.

Don't JUST vote. Vote and then give the extra mile. Otherwise you're just spectator.

Oh wow, the no-prize! I...I don't know what to say. I'm just so...*sniff* moved...such an honor.

And Heil Hitler was too obvious without being snarky enough towards the actual person for my tastes.

P.S. WRONG!!!

With all the stats I've seen, 'only' about 108 million people voted.

If memory serves me correct, there are at least 300 million people in the US...

So, um, yeah...

I guess 200 million people 'can't complain' :idunno:😕

Or are under the age of 18 or convicted of a felony or those other legal reasons people can't vote.

Yeah, Tortuga and I are on the same page here. I am not registered to vote. I did not vote. ...and you know what, that gives me every fucking right to complain! I didn't put these corrupt politicians into office. I had nothing to do with that whatsoever. I refuse to take part in this 4 year "two-card-monte" they play with all of us.

Instead of voting, I did something constructive. I went to a Joe Satriani concert! Satch rocked!

Wasn't going to vote. I'm in Utah, FFS. Then I remembered the bond issues for the zoo & aviary. Went down to the school, turns out if you haven't moved it doesn't matter how long it's been since you last voted.

The touch screens are pretty cool. And both bond issues won!🙂

I exercised my right to vote for the first time today.

I'm beyond happy that my vote counted towards the right man winning the election.

GO'Bama!!!
