Voting based on average state IQ

I know a lot of people dislike him, but just to borrow a quote from Mr. Stewart himself: "Peoples' senses of humor tend to go about as far as their ideology."
And he knows! He can speak from a wealth of experience.

Guys, guys. 😀 Let's just agree right away that everyone's an idiot except for Jon Stewart, and we should just elect him to be our wise (AND very amusing) Supreme Overlord. 😉

i always knew that we were a country of poorly educated anti-intellectuals, but give me a break. are those stats for real??? only 18 of 50 states have an IQ of 100 which is considered average? sheesh, we may be even worse off than i thought.

in the fantasy world of celebrity, jon stewart is the perfect man!!!

No the stats are not truly legit. They form a SAMPLE AVERAGE IQ of a limited number of respondents that choose to take an IQ test given by a company under non controlled conditions.

Its about as real as Peter Pan.

This only gets creepier / funnier when you look at which states switched colors for the 2008 election (which, last year, was all red state - to blue state conversion): #17 Virginia, #19 Colorado, #20 Iowa, #22 Nevada, #23 Ohio, #25 ... no wait, Alaska stayed red ... #26 Florida, #29 one third of Nebraska, #31 Indiana, #33 North Carolina and #38 New Mexico ...

But I'm just teasing all ya red staters now :wavingguy

I find it hard to believe north carolina has that low of an IQ comparable to other states

Thanks for the defense... 😀

But seriously... There are a number of things to consider here.

1) Was the sampling evenhanded in its distribution in each state?

2) IQ tests do have somewhat of an education correlation. Certain ways of thinking are more encouraged by formal education than living without it or with a poor amount of it. Similarly, there is a correlation between urban areas and education, just like there is a correlation between wealth and education.

So, when you consider that some states are more rural than others and that usually the more rural a state is, the poorer it is per capita, there will certainly be discrepancies in education levels -- which, in turn, affect IQ scores.

It is probably safe to assume that the Northeast is more educated than the South. The West Coast is probably more educated than the Midwest.

IQ is a bit harder to truly determine over wide variances in education, however.
