I was looking at people pc and I was thinking it sounded good, but then I read the fine print. They have toll charges, must have a major credit card, 56K is the maximum speed they offer, their tech support is 24/7, you jsut pay $1.95 per minute your on the phone (and hold), and your subject to timeout procedures.

Hi Lime, hey it's good that you read the fine print! They can get'cha if you miss that! Consumer beware! 🙁 Did you have a question about isp? Just wondered because of the title.

Im lokoing into getting DSL and I was considering them until I saw 56K only.

I was thinking of getting DSL as well. Some people say its good but others are not so happy with it.

I have heard pro's and con's on DSL, like with so many things. Some people like AOL and others don't. I have heard that DSL is faster and less download time too.

broadband.motorola.com/ <------- thats my Parents internet provider (High speed access cable) it works great🙂 but we had to get the package deal Cable tv+ Cable internet also so it comes out that my parents are paying like $70 total! its alot i know🙁 but it is well worth it but i dont think you'd have to Go with a package deal Limeoutsider but still go to that website and check into it and get back on me about it. tell me what your thoughts are oh best also with high speed Cable that means seprate phones lines meaning the phone rings but you dont half to get off the internet to go pick up the phone (unlike DSL i think) also your always on you can never get booted offline

You do not need a separate phone line for dsl. It uses a digital portion of the line that the phones don't use (you just have to put a filter on each phone, this is so the phones don't interfere with the dsl line).

The only problem with dsl (that I've found) is living in an area that gets dsl service, since it has a limited range.

Just a word of caution....

for anyone looking at DSL or cable. While these are great for faster connections and DL speed, there ARE some built in problems. First is that (in most areas) you must be within a certain distance from the main street line in order for it to be installed. If you're beyond that, they won't even bother since it effects connections. That's more for DSL, but does apply to cable in some areas. I've heard of several people who keep everything on all the time who end up having their computer go down because of the fan burning out or something similar. So, shutting down overnight is highly recommended. Also, the constant connection is a concern, since it's a hacker's dream. When you're connected 24/7 they can hack in without you knowing and not only grab info. from or infect YOUR computer but also use you as a remote to hit other computers. This is true no matter what firewall you may have. Bombardment attacks can eventually break through no matter how well your settings are arranged. We simply unplug the cable on our modem when we get offline and plug it back in when we're ready to go back online. For the 5 seconds it takes to be back up and running, it's worth it!

If you have a choice of cable or DSL in your area, I recommend cable.

If you decide on cable, buy your own cable modem if the cable company will let you, it'll pay for itself quickly, but be sure the one you pick is supported by your cable company.

The Motorola SB4200 Surfboard is a good one, even has a 'standby' button so you can disappear totally from the web when you're away from your machine for awhile.

I signed up at a kiosk at a Best Buy store and am happier than a pig in sh*t with the whole thing.

I had tried DSL and it wouldn't work for me. Cable has been flawless.

While you may be right, a hacker that really wants in your system will find a way in, no matter what, most will leave a firewalled system alone and find one that doesn't have one.

You can also minimize you chances of getting attacked by making sure you operating system and browser are always up to date.

Guit...I shared this because we have constant hack attempts...even though we have a great system that's updated AT LEAST once a week. If left untended, they'll still get in. So, we simply don't.

I wish I could get broad-band, but I am out in an area that DSL and Broadband cable do not serve, so I am stuck with my 56k

Our locl companies run a line check to make sure your in the provider area before they'll even answer questions you may have.
