A gathering is a social event involving tickling. I coined the term because "Play Party" intimidated some folks into this. We've been doing them in this community for over a decade, with NEST and the West Coast Gatherings being the first to have such events posted online.

Gatherings are one of the most amazing, life-changing, fantastickle things ever invented. If you do your homework, a lot of the history of their creation is buried here in dusty, ancient threads. The first ones are always mind-blowing. Then, it's like coming home. You make friends so grand, they're like family. It's not just about the tickling, anymore. You share what's going on in each other's lives. You have dinner, see movies, play miniature golf. You vacation together. You share in the joys and tragedies in each other's lives, and you support each other. The tickling brings us together. Play parties are the glue that binds the family together. It's all about the love, baby.

I've read posts like this many, many times, and they're fantastic...but it seems like very little discussion takes place about the main reason for the gatherings--tickling! Iris asked some interesting questions ("and just say Hi... can I tickle you??? are there tickle booths set up like a flea market???), but didn't see responses. I for one would love to read about the tickle details!
The main reason?
Depends on the host, really. I don't host events monthly, managing a list and screening people, so I get to play. I've been dating in our community for many years. I already get to play.
I host so that others of this interest get to meet. So that I have the possibility of more friends into this. So that I can see that look that nearly everyone gets when the realize they aren't alone in this interest.
It always feels like I've gotten away with something. Terorizer used to say that after events - "I can't believe we got away with this again."
The main reason is the people. Tickling some of 'em is fine, but I value Danimal, and I ain't ever tickled the hairy bear and I ain't gonna.
As for Iris' questions, it's really event-dependent. LA's gatherings are in a BDSM club, so there's gear aplenty and tickling is gear-based more oft than not in the event. Sac and SJ have a variety, as it's easy and casual to propose tickling and commence on a couch. One of Bella's events had a wicked wrestling match in the middle of the hotel room.
That's really up to the 'lee. If a body volunteers to have themselves tickled, they give the host their boundaries. If they're crazy enough to give ME the boundaries, well, anything can happen, and the hour at which they do that determines much of the craziness. Otherwise, a body may ask that no more than two, or even one-at-a-time, tickle them. They may ask for NO ONE to touch their belly button...
...and the first blockhead touching it is kicked out of the event.
It varies. The delightful part about that is the individuality of it. I've seen events where a timid 'lee just offered their feet, and tried to avoid screaming, and looked THRILLED when they were tickled senseless. Seen events where the same 'lee went through it twice, 'cause the first time just WASN'T enough, voracious look accompanying.

I guess what I was trying to convey there was that it's not just about the tickling. Sure, that goes on. Of course it is. That's what brought us together. It's a play-party. But we don't just play at them. We catch up with one another. Tell stories. Talk about cartoons. Music. Books. Life. And if you just wanna sit back and enjoy the company of friends, that's okay too. Never any pressure to play. That's the beauty of them. It's so relaxed.
But there's more to it than that. So much more it's pointless to try and describe it fully. And as for the tickle-details, well, I've never been one much for the "tickle and tell". Somebody wants to share the details of something like that, they'd better darned well have the permission of everybody involved. Or be pretty ambiguous about the who, where, etc... Nobody likes being "outed". And let's face it, even though (for the most part) everyone's fully clothed at these events, it's STILL an intimate exchange, so most won't be lining up to spill all the details.
The only *REAL* way to know what it's like is to attend. Man, I remember my fist Gathering. I was too stunned to do anything but just observe. I couldn't believe it was ACTUALLY HAPPENING. But everyone's first time is gonna be different, of course.

I have to cosign Danimal's post. There's definitely tickling going on at any gathering, but tickling is why we know each other in the first place, not why we get together year after year. And to spend a lot of time describing the actual tickling in detail...I dunno, it reduces the event to something less than what it was, somehow...we have countless stories and little descriptions all over the forum for detailed accounts of tk-play; a gathering is soooo much more than that
. I'm having my annual Bella Birthday Bash in November, and there'll be a ridiculous amount of tickling and other play, but when folks get home again and write me it's rarely about the play. It's about Steak N Shake at 2am: vats of coffee and pancakes and debates about the Simpsons vs Family Guy 🙄. Or the umpteen one-liners sprinkled throughout the weekend. And how no one slept, and even with no one being tickled we still didn't stop laughing the whole time Gatherings are full of tickles, but they're about way more

Podcast dropper. That was a good show, though, I listened to it a couple times before going to NEST and it answered a lot of questions about how to approach others for play, how to make friends, boundaries, non-tickling related fun, etc... Definitely, worth a listen.

Hey don't feel too bad like I said been on this forum for 5 years but still to this day as far as of right now-I have to sadly confess I have never actually been to an actual honest to God true official gathering to be honest. I mean sure I have been and have experienced the sweet tickle joy and fun of playful tickles here and there at some nice little mini gatherings for a couple weekends before ocassionally with my friends ticklebear 2 (my hubby) and also my friend crydun but other than that-I have to say I am honestly very new to the tickle gathering community. I am sadly very much when it comes to ever have attended gatherings and comes to having the knowledge of what goes on with these-I am pretty still clueless to be honest. I am very much still very much a newbie-to be frank.
So don't feel bad Iris, I am still very new to this too. I am learning just like you and learning more and more everyday. Surprise, surprise gonna be throwing our first gathering this coming July 11-13 NWOT 2008-this is a totally new adventure-so me and ticklebear 2 are relying and trusting our real good friends tickleshotel and dimpletoes and many others on this forum-to help us understand more and give us more feedback and knowledge on what gatherings are and what they consist of.
My hubby and me want to make our first gathering we have ever thrown-to be a great success and for all that can attend-to have an awesome fabulous time and have the tickles of their lifes and leave feeling cherished, happy, loved and accepted and feel that they belong-leave with friendships that will last a lifetime and relationships also that will last forever-memories that can never be erased-that will be forever etched in the heart.
Yes I am very much a newbie and to be honest even though I have been on here on this forum for 5 years; sadly have not been able to be on here as much and not able to give back and contribute as much-for many reasons I do not wish or want to get into-long long story
but things that were out of my control-mostly for 6 yrs after high school and while attending college I lived at home-would secretly go on the TMF when parents were in bed and pretty much kept it hush hush and did not share about the tickle kink.
My mom and dad would never would have understood or accepted or embraced the tickle kink-so kept it secret and private-needless to say-could not get on TMF too much except rarely on ocassion-until later after I got engaged and moved out- hubby and I had got an apartment at the time when we were engaged.
Any ways getting to the point: basically to make a long story short reason I do not have many posts and reason I don't have many threads started even after all these years-is because like I said had to keep the kink secret and private and hush hush-sadly many times my mom and dad loved to stay on the computer for real long time in the day and at night-used to seem to be on it almost all the time-go really really late to bed before I could even get to use it. I mean other times I could have tried to dare use it to go on TMF but did not dare wish to risk them accidentally seeing it if I could not minimize it fast enough.
Sadly once my mother did see it once and she chuckled and made fun and gave me a bit of a rough time about it and about me being ticklish-so I tried to play it off as a joke and did not really talk w her about it. So did not really get to get on TMF until after I moved out and got an apartment w my hubby-then my fiancee and got more chances to get on TMF after we had got married and had our own place-no longer had to worry about hiding and trying to keep it private and secret. And now of course
I have more chances and opportunities to be on TMF when I get a free moment.
I must say it is really nice and great to be out of my parents house and to be married and for us to have our own apartment and I can get on TMF anytime I wish and don't have to answer for it-don't have to worry about being embarrassed or having to answer zillion questions and don't have to worry about them finding out. Yes, my mom and dad know I am ticklish. My mother knows I am ticklish and this past Christmas 2007 she got me this cute tickle lion that you push its tummy and says in a real ticklish voice, please don't tickle me-so cute. She chuckled and smiled real big when she gave this to me-I blushed and chuckled and could not stop laughing-kept pushing its tummy. Yes, she knows I am ticklish and enjoy being tickled and enjoy tickling my hubby-but other than that-she has no idea how deep and how hot and fierce and passionate the fires burn-deep love and passion I have for tickling-doing the tickling and receiving the tickling. passion I have for being playfully dominant and also playfully submissive. More a switch though, love both roles very much and very passionately. Love being a ler though I won't lie. Love being in charge and being dominant.
So just like you I am pretty much very still much new Iris.
