What excuse should I give to work to attend NEST?

I told my jobs my best friend was getting married, and they were cool with letting me have the time off

Reunion, birthday, wedding. I'd probably go with relatives birthday myself.

Well, it depends on how long you're planning on staying in Philly. Remember, NEST takes up the entire weekend. Not all stay that long, but assuming Jen wants to, I wouldn't go with birthday.

you can probably get away with telling your boss that you are taking a personal day and they shouldn't need to know any more than that.

but if you have friends at work, they might inquire a little more. if thats the case, just tell them an old friend that you haven't seen in a while is coming to town and you are going to show them around. that way they won't expect anything like pictures or try to call you to hang out that weekend.

You could always call off dead. Then when you go back, just say you got better. **shrug**

I tell people the truth if they ask where I'm going for that weekend: I'm going to Philadelphia to have some fun with some friends that, unfortunately, I don't see often enough. 😀

An annual get together of a bunch of friends you've met over the years.... Isn't that what it is anyway?

Or a get together of Fine-Feathered Friends? A reunion is always a good idea but why do you have to tell work anything anyway other than you are taking a vacation?

I agree with Milagros. You can season it to taste, of course, but the key is, keep it short, general, and as close to the truth as possible. When the truth is something you feel self-conscious about, the natural impulse is to make up an elaborate lie and have every detail of it choreographed. The result is shown in a recent study: People expend more time and verbiage on lying than on telling the truth. And I would advise against saying either "a wedding" or "court," because those stories invite questions from curious persons seeking details, and then you really have to lie.

All I said was I'm going to Philly for the weekend. They didn't ask any questions. If they do, I'll say it's to visit some friends.

Going to a get away weekend with some old friends from high school I haven't seen in years. INVITE ONLY. When I get back, "Opps, I forgot my camera".

Why not just say you need to take some time off? They don't
need to know why. It's not their business. Just say, I need
these three days off. If they actually ask why, say you have
plans.

Call the day before....
...then say the magic words......

STOMACH VIRUS!

......your supervisor will be asking you not to come in.

Hmmm that is a good one Mammers09 the only problem and downfall of that , what if later the boss and coworkers would want to see pics? LOL:milestone: cute idea though, out of town, out of state wedding, interesting. Oh PS LOVE Your new Sig Pic, you are gonna have many guys and lots of people wanting to tickle you bad, you are a sweetie, love to meet you someday and love for us to become good friends HUGS really hope you keep that new sig pic it is sooo you

I am actually changing my sig pic for a real picture of me instead so people know what I really look like, I mean a lot of other people have done that on here. Thanks for saying you like it anyway.

LOL! I am not going to say I died, you are funny! :rowfull: I've decided to go with a much BETTER excuse. Just told who I needed to that I am going to an annual social event & that's all I really have to tell that person. I am very excited about NEST! :gathering: Except for the advice about calling out because I died (I know it was a joke but I didn't think it was funny), I really appreciate the good advice on here :goodjob:.

jsut ask for the time off.. say you need to go help a freind or visitng with freinds.

I actually need to provide a reason for time off in the paperwork I fill out for time off. I said it was a family wedding. No one at my work is close enough to me to want to see pictures.

😕

I know what you mean....

My company always wants to know why as well. In the past,I`ve always said I was going on a killing spree, and suggested that I could start at work if they refuse... They`ve always let me go since then without asking too many questions...

Here's advice - don't lie. Seriously, no matter who you're talking to. You don't have to give the whole truth; call it a reunion as suggested, but trust is a hard thing to regain.

I love the responses here 😀 LOL

Ok my advice (which always works if I'm going somewhere) is I'm going to go get laid (or if you don't want to be that upfront, say you are meeting a girlfriend/boyfriend)

Its amazing how people shut down if you talk about sex...or if they don't, they probably wont care if you told them the truth (Hell, they may want to come LOL ):imouttahe

Just my two cents 😉

I agree. Don't lie. Lies are hard to keep up with. Half-truths, however, are very easy 😛

I'm going to visit friends.
Going to a reunion.
Going to Philly.

All truths 🙂 Just not the whole truth. That way you don't have to remember your lie.

hehehehe.. I would have you commited if you told me that..

A wedding.
That is what someone else I know on this forum is doing.
That's what we're doing. I'm not so close to my coworkers that they would want to see pictures from the wedding of an out-of-state friend; plus, I could always say that I don't have any. Not everybody gets married in a church with everybody carrying a camera, after all.
