As sports are on my mind often, I wanted to post a thread asking what the most memorable sporting event anyone has ever been to is? It can be any sport.
For me, there are a few that come to mind. I was at Game 7 of the 1986 World Series between the Red Sox and Mets. I went to two Mike Tyson fights in 1988, including the 91 second one where he knocked out Michael Spinks just a minute and a half into the very first round. I was at the 1977 All Star Game with my father at Yankee Stadium on about a 105 degree night in July, 1977. There was also a Knicks playoff game in 1997 at Madison Square Garden against the then Charlotte Hornets. I would have gone to at least one game of the 2000 Subway Series between the Mets and Yankees, as my father and I were talking at that time, and he had a ticket for me, but lucky me had the flu all that week, so I couldnt make any of the games.
I do go to one baseball game a year between the Braves and Phillies in Philadelphia, and while I enjoy those greatly, I still consider the most memorable events either playoff games or championship fights where so much is on the line. Although I have never been a Mets fan, if I had to pick just one of these that was most special, I'd have to say Game 7, 86 World Series. How often can one say they have been to a deciding game of a World Series?
