Allow me to explain....
I recently came across the website TVTropes.org- http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage
which describes and illustrates, often in SCREAMINGLY hilarious ways, many of the various tropes (defined by the site as "devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations") that exist in all fiction. There are possibly thousands of entries, from "Action-Adventure" tropes, through "Comedy", "Romance", and even "Webcomics" to the always-useful "Applied Phlebotinium".
The bit that I found especially useful was that it allowed me to finally sum my real-life character up in 2 short phrases. I am a Chivalrous Pervert who is easily Distracted by the Sexy.
Now, in case that sounds bad, let me explain, with a little help from TV Tropes.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ChivalrousPervert: "He's the Plucky Comic Relief who can't stop ogling the ladies. But unlike some who ogle the ladies, he actually cares about them as people. Woe betide anyone who wrongs women, for he's watching you like a hawk — when he's not watching them, that is. Undoubtedly the best type of pervert."
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DistractedByTheSexy: "For some men, it's very easy to forget what they are doing when a gorgeous woman strolls past and lose control, doing things like walking into walls, tripping over themselves, dropping fragile objects, etc."
Yeah, that's me. Doomed to be the comic relief, but at least I'm good-natured about it, and I really do care about people. Especially women (even though I know they can take care of themselves perfectly well, I still can't help myself- I want to be their knight in shining armor).
So I was just curious... has anyone else seen themselves reflected in fiction, and in what way? (It doesn't have to be something identified on the site I mentioned, anything will do.) It's a human trait to see ourselves in others; art holds a mirror up to life, as they say. It can be anything; your personality seen in a fictional character, a moment of your life story seen in a movie, your emotional state perfectly captured by a song you heard at just the right moment.
Anybody?
