Without looking it up, I -think- its a bird. But since I did not look it up, I am most likely mistaken...LOL

And here all along I thought it was a special rodent that harbored a thirst for mother's milk. :blaugh:

Tit is an old Germanic word for "small" and is used in various northern European languages to refer to small objects, animals, or people, especially girls. For example, titta is a Norwegian dialect word for "little girl." The word is most common in American English in combinations that denote various small birds, such as the titmouse or tomtit. A titman in the 19th century could mean a small or stunted person, as Henry David Thoreau indicates when he calls his generation "a race of tit-men." Tit and titman are still used in New England, mostly by farmers to refer to the runt of a litter of pigs.

That's derived from the Old English word "titt." (It's a coincidence that it's pronounced the same as the word meaning "small.") One source says it's just a slangy pronounciation of "teat," which derives from the Old French. Seems to have been used in this sense in English since at least the 17th Century.

makes sense to me ignatz i forgot about the teat

Thanks for the info, Ignatz. I was wondering why an animal would be called a titmouse! That's almost as bad as Uranus. :blaugh:

I read your post about them being in your yard all the time and understood what you were saying. But titmice (yes, that really is the plural 😛) are found all over the world, not just in Alabama. That's why I posted the link. And if you know they're found worldwide and you're only joking when you say no one read your post, I apologize for taking you seriously. I hope that makes sense. 😀

I did know, but some didn't know they were in this country, that I found curious. Isabeu explained though.
