What Makes You Notice Another Member?

I tend to notice kind, silly and intelligent people. People that have a sense of humor and who don't have that "asshole" aura around them. Life is too short for me to surround myself with assholes. And I'm happy to report that most of the people on here are NOT assholes and are really great getting to know! 🙂

Well thats you then .
I was under the impression I was talking about me the whole time. Was I supposed to be speaking for you? I don't really think so. How about if you talk for you and I talk for me, and we each make our own choices. Sound good?

Actually I ment my last comment as that you make your own choices and I make mine I didn't mean any kind of disrespect . I never said you were to speak for me I don't know where that came from .

Hostility: It's everywhere. 😵

-- I notice personality and the structure of their post. Is it a wall of text? If so, ARGGGGGGGGGGG, but I'll try to forge through it unless it's absolutely 'tarded. =)

But yeah; personality. Noticing a member on a forum is similar to IRL, minus the physical element.

First thing that jumps out to me is there signature. Regardless of if a picture of the person is posted, any type of picture will allow me to associate who is posting. If the post is only a few sentences, chances are, there signature is going to be bigger, and I will notice that first.

Personality also comes into play, as already said.

I think this is a great thread.

I tend to read and reply to subjects or interesting threads to me. I try to comment and respond on a good post regardless of who posts, a newbie or someone who has been a while. It is true though after being part of this forum for a long time that you just get a comfort level wit people you have known a while. There have been a number of posts welcoming new people in the forum, out to munches etc....give it time and be real. We have a wonderful array of people of this forum, that in itself brings a great balance of views.

I don't notice people, they notice me! 😉

In all seriousness, though; an eye-catching signature, a unique style of writing, and a personality that shines through on-screen are things which make me raise my cyber-eyebrows at various users.
There are a lot of users on here who might be lovely people, but their posts might have no character, and until I get to know them in some other context, I would pay them no heed. Some people are good at grabbing people's attention, some are not - and unfortunately for those that aren't, people are fickle and look for things that don't take too much work on their part.

I agree with you here, Ru. First and firstmost, I notice a person's signature because it's like looking at their "face". I being to associate that signature (or a common theme in that signature if they change it) with the attached username. And yeah, I agree about the unique style of writing. I usually notice humor or kindness more than anything else. If a person appears to be tender-hearted, intelligent, or funny in anyway, they grab my attention. 😀 And that often leads me to look at their profile or blog if they have any.

That too, sigs do help me identify posts pretty fast. How does one post an image in their sig? I was going to post a pic of me in mine because sometimes it's nice to put a face with a name. Apparently mine says it's unable to post images in my signature? Help, anyone? It would be greatly appreciated and I'd love you forever?

If you have photobucket or another similar picture hosting site, you can just grab the IMG code of the pics you upload on your account. That's how I got all mine in. 😀

Thanks for the info.! I don't have a Photobucket acct. but I can open one. Yep, kindness definitely makes me notice someone 🙂

Post count means nothing to me, so they can be brand new and if they have something interesting to share I take notice.

This is actually a big thing for me. If they seem like a genuinely kind person, helpful or someone I'd like to get to know more about, I'll look at past posts and/or their blog to try to get to know a little more about them. Then I may send a quick pm to say hi, and just see how they respond/interact.

Actually, I tend to notice topics first. If a topic interests me, I'll take a look as time permits. Why do I point this out? Because, I want to get to know the entire person, not just the part of them that shares an interest in tickling. As a result, I tend to spend as much (if not more) time in general discussion as anywhere else....aside from those areas I happen to be working on for the site directories. So, those folks who share more of themselves are those I tend to notice the most.

I also happen to notice those who write well. As a couple of others have also mentioned, I too tend to skip over very wordy and/or gramatically challenging posts. That isn't because I judge them as unworthy, the person not worth getting to know or anything like that. (I'm not quite that arrogant. lol) It's because I'm dyslexic and have difficulty reading them...especially if I'm tired or not feeling well, which is the case more often than not.

Others have mentioned sigs. That will attract my attention as well, but to the image or quote rather than necessarily to the person themself.

Hmm...interesting question.....

Mostly I notice people when they have put something interesting somewhere that I relate to. If we have something in common it's really easy to start a conversation.

I really like the visitor message wall thing, because it makes stopping by to say hello or anything super easy. 🙂

attitude & authenticity

Great thread because it gets at the heart of the matter.

What I notice is the overall attitude or vibe I get about a person. As in personal interaction, if I feel energized because of interesting or entertaining contributions they're making then I want to interact with them.

If I get negative vibes because they're sarcastic or want to criticize or cut someone down then I'm about as interested in them as I want to be around an energy sucking parasite.

We come here to socialize around a common interest. And most people here are cool. But just as you don't care to hang out with assholes in the offline world, the last thing you want to do is put up with an online asshole.

Authenticity stands out for me--are they unique in some way? I always notice unique authentic people because they're interesting. I don't care if I agree with them as long as they're interesting and have some social skills.

Anytime, Angel. :pounce:

Yeah, I'd have to say kindness is a big clincher for me. If they seem like a friendly person based on what they've said to me then I take notice. It makes me feel really good when I meet a "faceless stranger" who actually took precious time out of their life to say something nice to someone who lives miles away from them. That really touches me. :redheart:

*writes down everything everyone in this thread said so I can apply it to myself so people will notice me*

Eh, humor, intelligence, sarcasm, friendliness, not being a tard, not being elitist, not being a bitch, not being a bastard, not being a penis/vagina monster, and liking or at least being ok with vidya games, brownies, and domo-kuns. Oh, and a nice sig helps.

Intelligent responses that add something to the discussion and not for just for the sake of being an attention *****. Also, I look at hobbies and interests.
