what movie critics do you listen to?

Roger Ebert and Leonard Maltin. Both are well schooled in the history of film, and have a genuine appreciation for it.

Roger Ebert is the only one, even though I'm English and he's American. I don't always agree with him, but he clearly knows his films - he goes to all the film festivals and has a deep knowledge of how movies work - and more often than not he will give a balanced argument which usually tells you that it is just his opinion and not necessarily canon. This is refreshing. Most critics in England arrogantly claim that what they say is fact and that if you disagree with them you are a moron. Most are no better qualified to review movies that I am. At least I have an AS-level in Film Studies. Most of them don't.

Well said. When "Sneak Previews" debuted waaaaaaaaaaaay back on public television, I was hooked. My dad would always ask me why I cared about Roger and Gene's opinions, and i said that they were well educated in the world of film. Not like the Gene Shalits of the world who love every film they see.

Actually none of them too much. I tend to like to make my own decision...

Allelluia Steph!

Critics are just that to me...critical. I want someone to see a movie and say if they liked it. It does me no good to hear they disliked this or disliked that...what was good about it!?!?!

One person that gets on my nerves is Owen Gooberhead from Entertainment Weekly! UHG! If the film is even remotely not artsy it is a B-. EVERY film he's ever rated a C or lower I have absolutely loved!

Sorry...done ranting now...lol!

No doubt! But I do love reading when he and Lisa go off on each other.

LOL!!

Thanks honey! Well, I tend to be drawn to a pretty wild mix of stuff (Identity, 50 First Dates, the Butterfly Effect...) so that's the reason behind it, in a nutshell...
XOXO

usually..........

.....the big mouthed twat sitting behind me who stinks of garlic.

None.

All they mostly do is bitch and complain all day.

Most be a nice job.

Yeah, same here. I lie to go see movies/everything before I can make a decision about it. Me and critics have disagreed many times. Besides, people pay them to bitch and complain, so that's what they'll do.

Everyone has different opinions, and critics are no different, so don't decide whether or not to see a film based on what they think. I think movies fall into three categories: the ones you like or love, those you don't care about, and the stinkers you hate. If you don't know if it's good or not, base your decision to see it on word of mouth. And be sure it's something you won't mind losing a couple of dollars over if you find out it sucks. 🙄
