What not to say when you randomly IM a stranger from the TMF:

I vote everyone takes one of these and call it good🙂

i don't know about where you are, but from where i come from, you make sure you know who you are talking to and your introduce yourself to the person you are talking to and let them know where you come from, and under no circumstances do you go and ask for the age, sex, and location of the person you're talking to -_-

And then there are the other 99% of men using the internet.

Posting in a legendary thread.

What I'd like to know is, if you know someone is female, what's the point in asking for their "s"? Surely a/l will do in that situation?

Just in case they're lying, man...like some conspiracy bullshit.

I think most people are content to take them at their word - even if they know in the back of their mind that it might be a bloke. What's the deal with cybering, anyway? Thrapping one out to a few words?

Fuck that, I'm happy enough with Crystal's seemingly never-ending supply of sig pics....

I sense that women on this forum have been overly pestered by folks who don't contribute and just want to A/S/L, to a breaking point.

The irresponsible actions and lack of netiquette of those leeches has made it difficult for civil conversations between men and women here, because all women now hold suspicion over men who IM them.

If Amanda's (and other ladies') harsh actions helps weed out folks who don't contribute and bring male TMF members overall into dispute, then I totally back it.

Okay, I'll admit I didn't read every post to this thread however I kept seeing the thread the last few days and I tried not to come in but it was just calling to me, lol. I do think that sometimes we women can be harsh in response to these types of interactions; however, I do think that sometimes it is completely warranted.

My usual reaction is just to be completely honest and give them some advice. Although if I'm in a bitchy mood that just goes right out the door, lol. This has been happening to me a lot lately as well and it almost makes you want to take another hiatus from the internet and the TMF because of it. What kills me most is that yes we are all here on the TMF and yes we share a common interest but silly me I always seem to think that I have other qualities that might be of interest to people even those who have a tickling fetish. The people I speak to most are people I am friends with outside of the tickling world and would be friends with even if we didn't share this.

That's all I have to say really but each sex has their points. Sometimes we women get to a point where we just can't take anymore and as is clearly documented in a well-known book called Men are From Mars, Women from Venus, we are very different in our approaches. Men sometimes forget about all those little things we like to hear like hello, how are you, etc. etc. before you jump into the whole what size feet do you have and where are your ticklish spots.

My thoughts exactly. This guy exhibited a lot of the typical warning signs of someone that only wanted to get his rocks off. Could I be wrong about that? Sure, and I'll be the first to admit it if I am. But like you pointed out, the girls of the TMF are always getting bombarded. If we all take a moment to see things from their point of view, I believe BrightEyes' response was totally understandable. I do, however, respect dissenting opinions.

Having said what I said, I also see where my fellow Aussie Xionking is coming from. An undiplomatic response could be damaging to a guy's morale, and makes no encouragement to their social skills.

The question is, should it be TMF ladies' role to "educate" these guys? I guess it's like asking whether it's the Bush Administration's role to bail out struggling corporations amidst the financial crisis*. It should be entirely up to the members solicited to make that call, and ladies who are constantly bombarded by folks who have little to contribute should have a right to respond harshly.

Everyone wants to get their rocks off one time or another. How one goes about it - with or without tact and sociability - is what separates us from animals.

*: I do not even want to START a discussion about this particular topic. The Bush reference serves only illustrative purposes.

I see where he's coming from, too. It's valid. I suppose I just have a hard time garnering sympathy for these types since so many of them turn out to be seedy. Not to say they're all that way, of course, because I know that's not true.

coming from someone who had to learn all his social skills on his own throughout his life, i still think this guy should have stopped and did a little bit of research before he went and tried to engage the lovely BE in conversation. And i'll say again, never ever open up by asking for a girl's a/s/l in an online conversation -_-

When I'm the subject of the incessant IMing, I make
it my role, and I make it my business.

Thanks to everyone who is being supportive.
And more power to you for doing that.

With some folks, the softly-softly approach just doesn't work.

EcEu is spot on. That guy clearly could (and should) have done some lurking, read some posts, and gauge the general feel of the place. I lurked for 8 years and I'm still reading the mood. Diving in the deep end can hurt.
