Topic: Bumping Threads.

Question: What are the reason's that would make bumping a thread (for lack of better word) "acceptable" ?

- For your own personal reasonings?
- To bring important information up front again if it was buried?

..etc.

Do certain thread's being bumped repetitively become frustrating to you?

Do you empathize with the need to bump "empty" threads?

Thoughts?

Well CrystalLight;
once long ago, I wrote a story for the story section, and English not being my native language it took quite an effort, so I was eager for feedback, and I bumped it once. But later time went on, and I forgot about it.

So I suppose sometimes I should empathize with bumping, since I did it, to be fair to the others.

Personally; I have no issues with somone bumping a thread once.

If it's a thread containing something that can be percieved as substantial (see: Samantha's post about the Aftercare thread)..then bump the hell out of that. We'd want new user's to see that, right?

But, If it's used in a way to shamelessly plug yourself, I feel no need for it.

I'm all about the shameless plug. If I see an opportunity to promote something, I do it. Publicity is publicity.
In general, I see nothing wrong with getting free advertising.
Also, if a friend of mine has a post going, and it slips to page two or three, I will gladly give it a bump. The great thing about this board is the freedom I feel to resurrect old threads...it's not a posting violation...so bumpity, bump, bump, bump!

Perhaps we should simply change the terminology to make it more acceptable. :bunny:

Instead of “bump”, we could start referring to it as a “burp”. Burp has a much funnier condentation since it involves internal bodily functions and might bring a bit of humor to an otherwise despised act. :jester:

Now lets try one out shall we ...

Hehehehehehe.
Or, if it disgusts you, the reader of the bumped thread could burpity, burp, burp, burp as a way to express their disgust as they read.

wow..

so plugging your self and your work on a forum is shameless?

one of the main points of tmf is to plug yourself...whether you're doing it by making threads and posting pictures or stories, by talking on tmf radio some nights or having sexy art work of chicks that may or may not look like you in signature.

theres absolutly nothing wrong with any of that, but it's all still a way to advertise, promote or sale yourself..how ever you want to look at all.

everyone just does it in different ways, and i don't see how that can be shameless, or pathetic or anything.

I agree with you Meka. Well said.:justlips:

I think some of you are missing the intent of the OP. She's not referring to people making videos that plug them. She's referring to people who make posts with no real content value, that are just trying to get others to make them feel okay about themselves, and then when nobody responds, typing "bump" in the thread to keep it on the front page in desperate hope of a positive response.

hey its all good!

hey i agree with that part if thats the case, however most people that bump their own threads or other threads are usually the ones that post in the media forum (pics, stories, clips, drawings) and im sure they'd be offended if they read the parts about it being "shameless", and "pathetic" being that there is a reason why people bump those types of threads lol. i guess im just speaking for those people. But if she's talking about pointless threads about nothing...which i don't know what threads are like that, then i can see where she's coming from i suppose

p.s, thanks ryan for saying that about papi and me =) we're very happy to have found eachother

In my last post, that is what I was referencing.....

Maybe you should have described exactly what kinds of threads you were talking about in your first post.

Topic: Bumping Threads.

Question: What are the reason's that would make bumping a thread (for lack of better word) "acceptable" ?

- To bring important information up front again if it was buried?

..etc.

Do certain thread's being bumped repetitively become frustrating to you?

Thoughts?

How were we supposed to know what kinds of threads you were talking about haha. We (some of us) assumed you were talking about all threads.

That wasn't my last post.

That was the OP.

Original Post.

Beginning of Thread.

Start of Topic?

Etc.

Like your sweetheart, you're bickering with me instead of discussing the point. Let's call off the dogs here, guy.

I know those weren't your last posts haha. I was trying to show you why people got confused in this thread.

Personally; I have no issues with somone bumping a thread once.

Okay... this is your last post and it still didn't say, "I don't like it when people bump threads in the general/tickling discussion section just to promote themselves and they don't say anything new about the topic.

If you would have said that off the get go in your OP, me, my girlfriend and others wouldn't have talked about why people bump pics/clips/artwork/stories threads and we wouldn't have talked about why it isn't stupid to do so.

We aren't fighting with you. We are just telling you why us and others were confused.

Ok, brakes.

I know why you both are so touchy.

You have probably bumped thread's of your own, Yes?

Go AHEAD!

I don't have any personal qualm with that !

It's the one's who BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP their thread's sometime's less then a week later..sometime's less than 24 hours later.

This is not a personal attack. On ANYONE.

This is simply a GENERAL thread. Meant for discussion.

Hostility not needed. I didn't mention ANY NAMES.

Thank you.

Yep, Meka already said she agrees with ya on that when she responded to brighteyes post.

I'm just telling ya why I was confused and why I said what I said. Now I know what the thread is about, and yeah, I agree with ya.

Don't be offended. She asked for people's POV. To clarify, I also mean pointless or "empty" threads. Example:

Hey who wants to show me their feet?
(no response, 2 days pass)
Bump(as in typing only the word "bump" for the sake of bringing your own thread back to surface)

(no response, 2 days pass)
Bump (as in typing only the word "bump" for the sake of bringing your own thread back to surface)

....continues

If people wanted to respond, they would have. I, personally think it's lame to continue trying to force the thread if everyone is repeatedly trying to avoid it. As for artists, writers, producers, or models promote away. I have all respect for those who make positive contributions to this community. You want to bump your contributions, by all means go for it. Papi is a cool fella and I enjoy you guy's work.

I just wanted to clear that up that I'm not trying to offend anyone. But even beyond all that, she asked for people's opinion and that's what she was given. She didn't ask for a rule against it or anything, simply opinions. Your contribution are your pics and interaction with the community. Her contributions are her show, and her threads starting conversations for people to talk about. Everybody is just doing their thing and making this place better for it. Hugs and cherry coke :upsidedow

i thought i ended what i had to say on a good note =/ ..lol i was bickering? i thought i was just responding to the thread.

kraziedog, you made a good point , you shouldn't make a thread about absolutely nothing and then bump it's lights out for whatever reason lol,

and hey i guess i could've started my response by asking what type of threads she was talking about before i started to defend the threads that i thought she was talking about

all i needed was for someone to clarify that's all, and brighteyes did for me , so i get the point

but in all honesty, i wasn't trying to be offensive or rude or anything like that at all. It was just some confusion going on thats all, no biggie!
