Not so much on the internet, but in person. We'd talked to each other a bunch of times and all, but I never realized something... You see, it isn't often that I run into a girl who's taller than me. That first time I saw her at NEST, we sort of nodded at each other and were all like "sup?"

Only she was so tall that when she nodded, her head rubbed some plaster off the ceiling. I wuz scurrrrrrrrrrrred!

Honestly I have trouble approaching people both online and in person. I am by nature very shy so it's not so much as i think any one is unapproachable. I just take a bit to open up. That's why I am better with gathering than I am online because I have that chance to get comfortable and talk with people. Once I'm comfy I'll be talking to anyone that want to chat

In person, I have trouble approaching anybody. If it looks like I'm trying to stare at anything but you, then I'm trying to figure out how to break the ice with you (conversationally, that is). Every so often, I'll simply walk up to a person without thinking it over too much and start talking, but apparently this leads to the impression that I'm hitting on them big-time... so... it's not frequent, unless alcohol is involved (in which case, I very well might be).

Online, I have trouble approaching people who are in an obvious clique. For example, if there's a group of people having a conversation in chat, or in a thread, which is almost exclusively confined to said group even if the chat (or thread) itself is not restricted to them, and my first attempt to get involved in the conversation goes ignored, I'm very unlikely to make another one... or to try to talk to anybody else, for a while.

I'm not sure why that is, honestly.

I find most people unapproachable, but that's more due to my general inability to talk to people. I tend to be fine if someone else has contacted me first but initiating unannounced? Never happens. I suspect, in all the years I've been here, that I've sent under ten non-mod PMs to people who I had not already spoken to before. When it comes to posts, unless I know the person already, I usually don't do more than the equivalent of replying in the "Person above you" thread.

Post counts never made a difference (perhaps because I led them for a stretch). No idea why this is. Part, perhaps, comes from my desire to not bother anyone. Part, too, may arise from general misanthropy.

EDIT: To add to my last bit, much likely comes from my assumption that no one would enjoy talking to me, an assumption born out of my own dislike of myself.
