i was bored i started a topic... lol. so who made up the term "tickler and ticklee" does anybody know?

As far as I know, I did : )

Not much to take credit for, but a very long time ago when there were only a few of us ticklers and ticklees online, we used to meet on AOL on a regular chat that was hosted by a great fellow who went by the screen name of Simon (I used a different screen name back then, but I couldn't tell you what it was now). I recall in one of my very first chats with him I was at a loss to describe the person being tickled and used the term "ticklee". It wasn't long before I saw it being used all the time.

Now it's quite possible that someone else used the term before I did, but up to that point I had never heard of it.

Ahhhh, um, yeah, that was ME...

...so everyone that's been using them, just go ahead and send me a check now for every time you've used those terms.

That's $19.95 per usage, check, money-order, Visa/Mastercard accepted. Send to Grizz Man Unlimited, care of Fly-By-Night Enterprises. P.O. Box-OU812, Feather Falls, California, 96969

Sorry, no COD's

😉 😀 🙄 😛

no it was me. i made it.. those were my first 2 words 20 years ago when i was born. i said "tickler ticklee".... so people!!! SEND ME the checks not him 😉

f/f 😛

Seriously, it was used in a NY Times Magazine article about the science of tickling, around 1975. I don't know if anyone here got it from there, but it was there... and the author clearly thought he was coining the word. He refers to the tickler and "'the ticklee', if you will."

But frankly, it's a fairly obvious idea, since "-er" deverbal nouns tend to operate on an "-ee" subject, just as basic grammar. So I would suspect there have been multiple independent origins of the term.

So how's that for pedantic? 😉

Not sure but I can definitely tell you who invented the terms "Ler" and "Lee" 🙂

then... tickling and ticklish... or tickling and.. WHATEVER! i can't think of it lol.😡 😀

From what I know, Tickler was used to describe one of those things you blow into and it make a quacking noise and the paper unravels. Some had junk on the ends of them.

And ticklee, I don't know no one could say for sure who first used that word.

Good luck! How ya gonna improve on that simplicity?

I don't know, but I hope to God somebody does. For reasons I can't quite place my finger on, I can't STAND those terms and refuse to use them. Getting tons of PCs in the chat reading solely "lee or ler" prolly doesn't help matters. 😉

(and while I'm b!tching about vocabulary, start using the term "barefoot" properly - it's an adjective, not a noun. The word "barefeet" doesn't exist, and makes you sound stupid.)

It is a general principle of language that anything that is important gets down to one syllable, in slang if not otherwise. So the "automobile carriage" of the 1890's, when it was important enough to be talked about a lot, became the "car".

In this community, Lee and Ler are very important, and have reached the end of their linguistic evolution. (Thanks, Max.)

Hear hear! Long live correct grammar!

Thanks Milagros317!

I am constantly surprised when I hear people use the terms Ler and Lee. I had no idea it would catch on so much. When I first created the Tickling Gawkers Glossary it was a fun way to create a 'secret' dialogue amongst Ticklers in public places. And, although I don't hear much of any of the other terms spoken in the posts, I always hear Lee and Ler and I have to laugh. I want to say "Where did you hear that expression?"

I learned everything I know along these lines from my brother in Wisconsin. 🙄 😉

What we REALLY need to do...

...is start introducing slang based on that bastard mix of schoolboyisms and Russian detailed in "A Clockwork Orange". That should lend an air of... well, something to all of this.

Vissi right horrorshow to me, droogs. What say you?

If I made up the word, I would sue for royalties! I WOULD SUE YOU ALL GOOD!
