I've recently been reading a comic somebody posted on youtube, and it got me thinkging about a question thats been buzzing around my head for some time. It's ok for a man to hit a man, and its ok for a girl to hit a girl, and its ok for a girl to hit a man, but it's not ok for a guy to hit a girl. In fact, it's not just ok. If a guy hits a girl, 10,000 pregnant ladies somewhere miscarriage and a building blows up. It's apparently the worst thing a guy can do in the world. Hitler doesn't have anything on a guy who hits a girl.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think anybody should beat up anybody, but there seems to be this double standard that exists. On one hand, I can understand it. If i was to beat up a 125lbs guy, that would be pretty bad. However, if i was to beat up a 125lbs girl, apparently that would be so much worse. So, I guess i'm wondering, should the "girls are weak and pathetic and unable to protect themselves" mentality still exist, or are we ready to move beyond that as a society?

If they can throw a punch, then they can take one. Might as well live by that rule.
 
Generally speaking it's because women tend to be smaller in size, and normally aren't as strong. However if she takes the first swing, I say feel free to defend yourself, just remember not to use excessive force. A closed hand is always out when dealing with a woman who is violent... unless her last name is Ali or Frazier. In that case you just have to watch out for Smockin' Joe, or the Nation of Islam.
 
Always reply with comparable force, not greater. If a small woman hits you with a closed fist, do not punch back. If a large woman from the rowing team hits you with a punch, pick up your teeth and punch her right back!

If she's got the balls to throw one then she should be man enough, but we all know what the reaction from the crowd would be. Some dude (probably the brother, or boyfriend) will sucker punch you, and theirs a good chance he won't be the only one coming after you. That's why I say, defend yourself, but use minimal force. Pretend she is a drunk, or mentally disabled, it's basically the same thing. Like my father says, never hit a woman, a drunk, a blind man, or a fool.

Considering the last one, I don't understand why so many people used to hit me... maybe their fathers didn't teach them that rule.
 
We have the right to protect ourselves from physical assault by anyone, regardless of gender or size. I've been in that position a few times and my policy has always been to apply as little force as possible. If verbal taunts are all that is involved I just walk away. Those people don't know me and I could care less what they think or say. People get into fights over what are often silly or inconsequential reasons.
 
Stand in front of a girl in whatever stance you take if you were in a fight. Then rear your arm back with a clenched fist and summon all the strength in your body you know it would take to either knock someone out or do some serious damage. Then unleash that punch full force and at full speed and with murderous intent.

Mid-punch, pay attention to that sickening feeling you're experiencing in your gut. If you're having trouble figuring out where it's coming from this is perfectly understandable as it probably begins buried deep in your DNA itself.

Now hold back and don't hit her. That feeling you experienced is the reason why it's not okay for a man to hit a girl.

It doesn't need further explaining. And if you have no idea what I'm talking about, then I don't have any other answer.

However. If a girl attacks you with something truly dangerous or is dead-set on causing you genuine harm, then by all means knock her the fuck out.
 
If a woman hits you three times, you are officially allowed to hit her back.

But only with an open hand, so it's more degrading.

Seriously, the answer is because a woman presumably can't hurt you, so hitting her is dishonourable. And since I've never known a woman who would try settling her differences with her fists anyway, I think the rule still stands.

I've known women who were quite willing to settle their differences with fists regardless of gender, and also a few who could have moped the floor with me. I have been six feet tall plus and over 250 lbs. since Junior High. Dynamite can indeed come in small packages.
 
First off nobody should hit anybody. Its wrong either way, men don't have the right to hit women and women don't have the right to hit men. However, if a women keeps punching you and you've made it clear you want her to stop and she doesn't well then self defense is a must. I believe you should do enough to get the women to stop hitting you and thats it. No needed force otherwise it will look bad for the man.

this is pretty much my rule too. I've recently got into a big fight about it with one of my friends. If a girl hits a guy then she should expect to be hit back. I'd never hit a woman back, i'd just defend myself and prevent her from hitting me but if a guy hit her I don't see that being a problem. A girl shouldn't come up to a guy and hit him and think that he shouldn't hit back because she's a girl.. but unfortunately alot of girls think that... If they can't take a punch from a guy then don't go up and hit him. Especially if the guy is two times her size, that's just stupid...

Here's the problem, gentlemen.

One should not go looking for trouble without having to deal with the consequences. If you want to hit somebody, that's all fine and dandy. You do not, however, have the right to not be knocked flat on your ass by doing so.

If you don't want to hit a lady, that's fine; I don't know that I would. I'm just saying that women don't get some default protection. Equality comes in all shapes and sizes.

probably the only thing I've agreed one with you. That's what I was kinda getting at with my post.
 
Punching a woman is yet another example of how soft our species has become .Man up and do it properly for gods sake.

I've never hit a girl, but then again I've only been in two fistfights my entire life; as a rule I don't fight. I like to think that if I can't solve my problems with words, it's not worth my time.

However, I do make it perfectly clear (I like to think) by how I carry myself that I will fuck you up if you come at me, and that includes both genders. Luckily, I've only had this happen twice, and both times by a male... one never knows.
 
As a woman, my philosophy is this: if a woman comes up to a man and has not hit that man because she was defending herself, then a man has every right to defend himself by striking her back. Any woman who expects a man to sit there and take it if she's being violent deserves to get knocked on her ass.
 
Any man I've tried to hit out of out & out anger has only performed restraining methods. -- Except for a few times.

Only one of those times I didn't deserve it.

My feelings on the topic are mixed.
 
I have boxed with many a men in my day, and beat the living dog crap out of them, and it was usually because they hit a woman near enough for me to see it.. And , I've also gotten tagged a time or two. If I punch you, I mean it. I want to hurt you, I am not playing with you. You are welcomed to defend yourself, and you should because if I'm that mad, one of us is getting knocked out.

Now, I haven't handed someone's ass to him/her in a long time. But I believe if you are man enough to run up on a guy and start something physical, you're man enough to get your ass beat. And now that I married to a freaking beast (sexy beast), I "pity the fool" who tries to rough me up if Alex is there.
