Why is this place so Frickin Quiet all of the time?

In other forums (with fewer members might I add) a thread is replied to almost as soon as it appears and as quick as a real life conversation there will be half a dozen replies within 5 to 10 minutes. A thread posted will be active for maybe an hour or less before being replaced with many more new threads. This place is just stale. A thread started one day might get a couple of replies at most by the end of the day and might still be active a week later!!!!!!!
Do people just come here for a wank? Don't be shy people. If you've got something to say, say it. Perhaps our (well your) obsession with 'politeness' and not offending anyone is stifling free speach?? Well, thats what I think.

Yawns.......everybody in bed then???

This place is boring anyway. How can there be humour and fun if everyone is so formal. I feel like I am living in Victorian England (well, actually Victorian England was a cracking place to be, unless you were a woman born into a respectable family, apparently). This place is so quiet.........i've been to more lively libraries

..... in the middle of the desert ............

...... run by a mute librarian............

......... with an attendance capacity of 1........

Jeez.......

.... in an empty house....

..... in the middle of the night? ....

....What further indignities would they be subjected to from Frank's crazed imagination?.....

Or maybe we all have more of a life than the people on the Xena: Warrior Princess, Mars Rover, Ex-Witch, or Tabu.ru boards.

Oh, zing!

Aye thats a point i suppose. However, i don't think that adequately explains why things are so quiet around here. There are currently some 600 people here. They have taken time out of their lives to visit this place. Ok so only about 300 people are registered users, but surely this place could be more active. This place shows fewer signs of life than a decaying corpse. If people have more important things to do why come here and stay here in the first place. No, they are here because they have nothing better to do (at least transiently) and could at least entertain us by leaving a message.

For the record I only occasionally ever come here and only occasionally visit one other forum - a music fans forum, for indie rock n roll.

Newcastle, I have been trying to do my part more. It does seem though that people take their time responding. Part of the problem is we all have lives outside of this and can only be on occasionally. I do agree though that if you are here and you read the threads it would be nice to see thoughts. Especially since its the same people that always post. It would be nice to get some new ideas and thoughts.

I agree that it would be great to see more new people posting their thoughts, and if anyone has any good ideas on how to accomplish that I'd love to hear them.

On the other hand, this is the graph showing our posts per day for the last couple of weeks, and it's a lot more than you might think...

I have a very busy work and social life, but becoming a part of TMF is the most stimulating thing I've done in quite some time. I enjoy contributing new thoughts and responding to current ones, but I lurked at the periphery for four years first.

To each his own. There's plenty of activity here for me.

The lowest day on the chart, June 30, was the day that I traveled by bus to Massachusetts, and hardly posted at all. 😛

I have to admit, sometimes I log on and I can hear the sound of crickets chirping around here but by diddly dee, if I see a topic I wish to respond to, I respond! But sometimes I'm in the middle of something and I log on just to peek at what's new at TMF, if only for a moment. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to put my ladyfriend's toes back in my mouth. Cheers!

Its probably just me. I like to see things develop and I can get bored when things remain static. Perhaps some sort of incentive would increase posts. I have some ideas: -

1) The person who makes the most number of posts in a month gets every video from the MTP back-catalogue plus first refusal on tickling any current or future, wife/husband boy/girlfriend of any current or future member of this forum.
Whilst this might be unrealistic, heck, Milagros will win every month anyway, so we can just bribe him to lie and say that he got these things. Hopefully the other members won't cotton on and we'll all struggle in vain to win the prize that doesn't exist (except we don't know that it doesn't exist for the aforementioned reasons).

2) Everyone who signs up to the forum must report for surgery where a small device will be implanted in our right buttock (for technical reasons anyone from Newcastle will be exempt). This device will slowly release a sub-threshold dose of a a neurotropic chemical. However, when the appropriate access code is input into the device (perhaps via e-mail or text message) the antidote is released into the bloodstream. Members of the forum will only get an access code if they post a particular number of threads. Too few will result in no access code. Death will surely follow after a period of embarrassing incapacitation.
Now I know that most of you can see the benefits of this, but I do anticipate a drop in membership as a result. That could be bad for the overall forum dynamics.

What do you think (apart from the fact that I am an ass with nothing better to do with my time :blaugh: )

you are correct uni...the mods on here generally dont like what i contribute to this forum (although i have talked to MANY members that do) so i dont say as much as i used to. basically, if you have anything to say on here other than "sweetness and light", the people in charge dont want it on here. fortunately i talk to enough members off the forum or on the phone that do like my straightforward opinions...like my buddy steph..lol.

Although in the interests of fairness, i can see why people like 'sweetness and light' here. So many times people misconstrue what others say and an arguement will develop. However, I think this could be overcome with good punctuation and well..........it can be very dull to always be so polite and bloody kind! Sometimes I feel like i'm in an episode of The Care Bears......lets rebel!!

:lurking:

Well for me it is hard not to be polite, when there are so many non-critical,non-judgemental people here at TMF. :rotate: And hey folks this is my 20th post!!!! Boy I thought I would never get here. I would like to thank my agent,my family,...... :veryhappy

Hey Donnie!! Well done!!! Good for you!! Who hoooooo! :Kiss1:

You are the greatest, we're all the greatest! Its such fun having you here. I'm glad you joined. What are you doing next saturday......i'd like to come and bring my lips into tight apposition with your butt cheeks!!!

Thats the type of encouraging reply that these sentences tend to get: -

1) This is my first/second/twenty ninth post
2) I've lost 2 pounds!
3) I worked out how to set my VCR
4) I've learned how to tell the time
5) I've done a poo!

I don't mean to be so sarcastic.....but it keeps me amused....sorry people

I'm sure you're right that it's enforced niceness that makes people refrain from posting, not jumping on them whenever they say something you happen not to like...

*yawns* Yeah, a lot of people come in here to wank, and a lot of people only bother to post when they have something substantial to say. I don't believe that detracts from the quality of the board at all.

I don't think I've ever thought of this place as "quiet" I probably talk enough for 30% of the members here... and steph probably equals another 30.... sorry steph, I just know you are noisy like me.

What would you prefer people to write on these boards? How miserable life is? How miserable they are? How miserable they like to make other people? Well, I get paid to deal with that on my job, I don't want to be bothered with it on my downtime.

Yes, some of what gets posted is silly, sappy, with a large dose of TMI! But, I like to hear positive stuff from people who may otherwise have nowhere else to talk about stuff. Remember we work our vanilla world all day. Here, we can be free and happy people.

If you want heated conversation with all the mud slinging allowed to any man, get on the P & R forum-there's plenty of it waiting there for you.

Hey UNi
mmmmmmm NO I DON'T think so!! Two reasons that won't happen. One, space already taken by my assistant, and two I have no idea where those lips have been!! This should keep you plenty abused I mean amused Good day uni

well you have to take into account the fact that people have jobs and have families. Some people are just busy I guess.

I am totally for #2, since I just bought stock 2 months ago in a digi-tech company that makes the Veri-chip, but very few people are interested in the Veri-chip it seems because many people seriously, for real, think it is part of the prophecy of the "Mark of the Beast" - but I bet they'd change their minds and go buy an indulgence from the Pope if their fetishistic expression depended on it..... this could get me out of my apartment and into a house!

NO EXCUSES HERE. If a post interests me, I'll answer it..if not then I won't~nuff said

I agree that the large amount of sappy, ass kissing threads are getting a little tiresome to read, but six or seven months ago it was the other way around. This forum had a high concentration of morons who seemed to only want to start trouble.
