Why KT and I were not at NEST this year or last.

The reason why KT and I did not attend NEST in Philadelphia last year for the first time since we began DMing and teaching in 2006 can be summed up in three letters- WMD.

This coward avoided me and my messages right up to the very last moment before finally emailing to say that “The Volunteer Suite Is Full This Year”, three whole days before the event began.
As always, we’d responded in plenty of time. February 2nd, 2016, I emailed “Hi, Loralee. ‘KT’ and I would be delighted to join you again at NEST this April/May, to help in any way needed and perform the usual services. Best wishes from both of us.”
No reply. I re-sent it on February 23rd : Dear Loralee: I'm aware that emails can go astray, so I'm forwarding this one again. Looking forward to seeing you again.
No reply. On March 5, a bit perturbed that ‘The Single Man’s Guide to NEST’ which usually rests atop the NEST forum had become unstuck. I emailed Loralee and DVNC, immediately receiving a polite reply from DVNC explaining that ‘NEST’ wasn’t his column, but that Loralee could fix it.
She neither fixed it nor replied.
I rang her mobile on April 15th and 20th.
She did not respond.
Finally, I messaged both her and her deputy Albertina on Fetlife, and Albertina wrote that she hadn’t heard from her either. I will not cast aspersions on the latter-named, who did at least reply.
And three whole days before NEST began, after we’d already arranged transport, the ‘Lovely Lee’ finally deigned to communicate.
“Our volunteer positions are all filled this year. There is no room for anyone else.”

So much for nine years of KT and me working for the event.

So the crux of this little pity party is wah, we don't want to pony up the dough and rent a room at the hotel? Just want to make sure I understand.

NEST was GREAT this year and the kidnappings were fantastic!
We had no issues this year or last, with someone (cough, cough) contributing to underage drinking and no one took unauthorized videos and posted them online.
Thanks to Lee for all of her hard work in putting this together.

Explain why this is the forum to be airing your personal dirty laundry?

The lynchpin isn't the aspect of Lee not getting a hold of you. I know how easy it was as a would have been first timer who had to cancel. Those aspects were taken care of and addressed within minutes. What it comes down to is your sense of place within the hierarchy of the event ITSELF. If it was about community and the like, you'd of gotten the hint about staffing much much earlier than now.

You'd of bought your ticket and gone just like everyone else.

That might be beneath you, given the classes and the like in the past. I dunno. I do know that for someone with a reputation of taking themselves too seriously, doing this out in public is showing your ass.

Libertine gets free rides to NEST for a decade and rather than a thanks, writes a TMF manifesto. Is there a mature gentlemans guide to acting like you got some sense? Maybe that should be a sticky.
