Why would softer feet = more ticklish

I hear so much about women getting pedicures to keep their feet nice and soft, which in turn keeps them ticklish. However, I was thinking bout this today at work (it was a slow day)...everyone has the same number of nerve receptors or whatever you want to call them, in all the same places right? Yet not everyone is ticklish in the same places, and some people are (gasp) not ticklish at all! I have also heard a few people argue that being ticklish is psychological (although I would argue that most people who are ticklish seem to be born that way).

Also, one part of the foot that is probably never rough or calloused is the middle of the arch (because I would think it doesn't come in contact with the ground as much as the rest of the foot). And I have myself tickled women who were not ticklish on their feet, and even this spot got no reaction. I'm certainly not trying to discourage any ladies from getting pedicures, if you say they make you more ticklish, who am I to try to discourage you? 😀

Just curious, thanks.

i knew a girl who said and i saw she could turn off her ticklishness. i think softer feetmakes for a smoother surface and there for more ticklish later just my 2 cents

In my experience, softer feet equally more ticklish is a total myth. I've tickled both soft and calloused and I've decided that if you are ticklish, you are ticklish period. I've tickled baby soft feet that were not ticklish and I've tickled rough calloused feet that were off the charts ticklish.

Well, if you think about it, calluses are just areas of extra built-up skin. The nerve receptors wouldn't be in the newer, thicker layers close to the surface. So tickling feet with calluses might not get as good a response because the fingers of the tickler aren't actually stimulating the nerve receptors in the lower layers of skin.

You should also consider the type of stimulation being applied to the nerve receptors. Perhaps the vibration of a massager to the soles would deliver a tickling sensation to someone with callused feet who might not otherwise be very ticklish there.

That and I think soft soles are just nice to play with and tickle. And I know I'd like my feet to be soft when they're being tickled.

I think my many of us keep our feet soft to make the experience more enjoyable for the 'ler. 😉 I mean, wouldn't you rather be playing with a pair of silky-soft feet than a pair of hard, crusty feet? :ermm:

But to answer the original question, I certainly find my feet to be more sensitive and ticklish when they're well-moisturized, and less callused.

It probably depends on what type of tickling we're talking about. If there's vibration or pressure involved, the softness of the skin is probably less of a factor. But I tend to prefer light strokes over the skin, and I can tell you from experience that the touch of a feather between my toes is much more tickly when my feet are soft! 🙂

Seems that a build up of skin would de-sensatize u 2 lighter touch. Like tickling thru socks. I'm more ticklish w/o socks. But thats me.

I agree with the idea that the feet are generally kept nice and soft with pedicures and the like because the 'lee wants the 'ler to enjoy him/herself while they're playing. And really, what would a foot lover/tickler be generally more interested in- a pair of babysoft feet, or calloused?

2 girls I knew from high school had kinda rough feet (not gross or calloused rough, but not soft either), and the two of them had to be the most ticklish girls I've ever seen in my life. So that might not always be true (though I never tickled them after a pedicure 🙁). Damn I miss them...

i agree with ya. if you're ticklish then you're ticklish. but if you're ticklish with calloused skin on your feet i would thing it would decrease the sensation as feather mentioned. so when someone makes their feet all smooth and soft and the callouses go away the nerve endings become eaiser to stimulate. i think.

That's very wise, Aurora, I concur with your concurance! Especially since you know all about soft feet being that you in fact have soft feet!

The degree of one's ticklishness is often determined by how close the nerve endings are to the surface of the skin. Having soft, smooth, callous-free skin makes one even more ticklish.

*sigh!*

You do that on purpose , don't you.

What, keep my feet nice and soft so 'lers will love them? Absolutely! 😎

Yeah , that ...

... & the fact that you consistently string together sentences that drive me absolutely crazy! ... um , in a good way.

Thanks for being you , LindyHopper.

I am learning this principle first-hand recently... I've become a real "girl" lately when it comes to keeping my feet soft, smooth, it's almost an obsession! I've so far done everything short of a pedicure, and the sensitivity of those bad boys is enough to give me the chills!
