worst remakes of songs you've ever heard

I've found one more reason to hate Simple Plan even more. Man, this is horrible!!! The Turtles can't possibly like this remake. The lead singer sounds a bit like "Weird Al" Yankovic to me, too, but he would've remade this into "Crappy Together" or something like that:

"Freebird/Baby I Love Your Way" by Will To Power.

Thankfully, I completely forgot about that one. Will to Power- sounds vaguely Fascistic. When Hollywood remakes A Clockwork Orange, they could incorporate this music as the reverse Ludovico treatment; Alex's conditioned response to violence, repulsion, will be accompanied by 'A Fifth of Beethoven,' while 'Freebird/Baby I Love Your Way' will generate an unconditioned response that makes him return to his violent ways.

Ok, how's this for a bad cover? How about when you can't even cover your own material and make it sound good?

Many of the younger rock fans may not remember this, but Whitesnake's '80's tribute to plodding power ballads, "Here I Go Again", was actually a cover of the same song they did on their earlier album "Saints and Sinners". In the original version, a simple but effective Hammond Organ provided the keyboards rather than the thrice overdubbed synths, the solo was actually much cooler, and the song actually sounded like a rock ballad. They completely fucked it up by "remaking" it. Whitesnake actually did this with a couple of their own songs.

And to answer FF's earlier question, .....No. Axel did nothing for Dweezil's solo album. The song he sang on was the worst track on the album, in my opinion.

It wasn't just that he acted like a dick to everyone in the studio...but he was a fuckin' prima donna as well. Like I said, I was working in Studio B, they were in C. Axel was hanging around all day, doing his rock-star thing, and when it came time for him to actually go in and "work", we were notified that we'd have to stop our tracks, because Axel requested the studio be cleared while he was singing. Not just "his" studio, but all other work being done. I was like "Fuck you!" Do you have any idea how much studio time costs? Especially in a place like Paramount? The engineer in B kindly informed C that we would be continuing our keyboard dubs and that Axel was more than welcome to come back after hours if the presence of other musicians two studios away bothered him that much. Don't know if he actually did, I was busy, but I really didn't give a shit.

I don't know one that I hate, but one of my favorites is "Carry on My Wayward Son" by The Showdown. It's really great, check 'em out.

Wow, I really love Manson's covers, and I say that as a HUGE Depeche Mode fan. I don't think he has trumped anything that he has covered, but he does give them a great new sound in my opinion.

As far as bad covers, with the exception of "Imagine", I really don't like the songs on A Perfect Circle's Emotive album. Their cover of "People are People" really made me want to hurt Maynard James Keenan.

Another cover that is truly painful for me to listen to is Rammstein's cover of "Stripped", another song by Depeche Mode. I love Rammstein a lot, but oh dear lord that cover induces such rage in me.

The moral of the story is: Don't cover Depeche Mode unless you really mean it. And don't cover Rush ever, I will agree with that one.

Thank you! At least not if you're emo or grunge or "alternative" or whatever they call it now.

However, there is one album that's got some killer Rush covers, but it was done by great musicians who were directly inspired by Rush. It's on Magna Carta records, called "Working Man - A Tribute". With guitarists like Jake E. Lee, Steve Morse, George Lynch and John Petrucci...most of the bass tracks by the incomparable Billy Sheehan and Stuart Hamm...and singers like Sebastian Bach, Jack Russell, Eric Martin (his version of "Mission" is sublime), Mark Slaughter and James LaBrie, this is the one single exception to the "Don't Cover Rush" rule. If you're a fan and don't have this album...GET IT! You will thank me and give me a cookie.

Whitesnake really destroyed their song "Fool For Your Loving" that was on their 1980 "Ready and Willing" record. It got turned from a cool blues/rock tune into a lame, metal tune like Dave mentioned earlier.

Argent's "God Gave Rock n Roll To You" was a great song......until Kiss got hold of it.
