From: Hit Man: My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling:
After the match, with Jim Niedahart and Ken (Shamrock) beside me in the locker room I made a short speech to Shawn knowing that it was official that we would face each other in a title match at Survivor Series, which was in going to be in Montreal this this time. "I just wanted you to know that despite any differences we've had this past year, I have no problem working with you You can trust me in every way to be professional. What you need to know Shawn, is that you're not in any danger." I added, "I also want you to know that I have no problem dropping the belt to you if thats what Vince wants."
He glared back at me. "I appreciate that, but I want you yo know that I'm not willing to do the same for you." And left.
Jim snorted "I can't believe he just said that!"
There was no way I could ever drop the belt to him now: he'd just showed complet disrespect to not only me, but to the position of champion, which was an affront to old-shool traditions and each and every wrestler who looked to me as a leader in the dressing room, or who had been a leader himself. What kind of arogant prick would say that to a champion offering to put him over. Since my deal with Vince was that I had creative controle of my character for my last thirty days in the WWF, it was up to me who I lost the championship to. I figured I'd drop the belt to Austin instead.
Later Bret writes about a conversation with Vince where he offers to drop the belt as the Gardens to Austin or Undertaker. Speaking of the Undertaker, why did he, Ken Shamrock, Rick Rude, and Vader all stand by Bret, Owen and thier brother-in-laws in the locker room when he and Vince confronted each other. If Hart was't a "team player" why would an old shool guys like Taker and Rude stand by him? Why did Ric RUde then apear on Nitro the very next day and shit all over what McMahon did to Bret (actualy he was a pretaped RAW as well, the only Wrestler to apear on bother shows on the same night). If Bret is so selfish why did Jougues Rougeau Jr. say he was the most generous guy he ever worked with? Why does Mick Foley speak on Bret's side of the Montreal Screw Job, and why aren't his comments on the Mr McMahon DVD when the topic of the Screw Job is brought up?
Maybe one day you will get to meet one or all of these guys at some sort of convention or autograph sighning and you can ask them so we'll both know. I'll trust you to be honest, because I think you've learned that I am.
