"Elizabeth," Candace's Rail Gun

Yurihausen and I decided Candace didn't just need a sidearm, she needed a hand-canon. And a futuristic one at that. :) Meet "Elizabeth."

Weapon designation: “Elizabeth”

Open-vent energy dispersal: The weapon ejects the electromagnetic (EM) energy created by the weapon firing the shot out of these ports, which are open to the air. This energy dispersal would be analogous to the muzzle flashes associated with today’s weapons.

Rifling EM field coils: These electromagnetic coils wrap around the barrel of the gun and spin the ammunition as it exits the chamber, not unlike the rifling etched into the barrels of today’s weapons. This spin increases range and accuracy.

Impulse EM field coils: These create the electromagnetic impetus that moves the ammunition out of the gun. They can change polarity to push or pull the round, depending on its position. This is controlled by internal computer.

“Hot-knife” laser-powered projectile cutter: This micro-laser slices off part of the solid-core ammunition to prepare it for loading into the chamber. The ammunition size toggle determines how much is sliced off. “Hot-knife” is (fictitious) jargon.

Chamber: Where the round resides before firing.

Chamber attitude EM field coil: This pulls the round up from the ammunition slot after it has been cut off by the “hot-knife.” It also keeps the round suspended in the chamber and in the correct orientation for firing. If the calibration of the latter is off, it could result in a disastrous backfire.

Solid-core metal ammunition slot: The ammunition for the weapon is a solid, circular bar of dense metal. This is cut into usable rounds by the “hot-knife” laser cutter. The loading port is in the rear of the gun and is covered when not in use. An indicator light shows how much weight is left in the slot, as the adjustable size of the rounds makes showing the number of shots left inaccurate. The firer is trained to quickly calculate how many shots of each size she still has in the weapon at any given time.

Genetic verification grip molding: Every legal weapon in the UN must be linked to the genetic code of one or more owners. The molding on the grip contains a series of genetic scanners that confirm the person holding the weapon is the proper owner. If it is not, the internal computer shuts the weapon down.

Ammunition size toggle: This dial allows the user to select the size of the round being fired. Larger rounds do more damage, but require more energy to fire. Smaller rounds are able to be fired quicker, but may lack some of the punch of larger ammunition. The setting tells the “hot-knife” how much of the solid-core ammunition to slice off for loading.

Options hard-point: This bay allows the weapon to receive one of a number of optional features. When none are installed, it is filled with a placeholder block to keep debris out of the internal workings of the gun and provide a consistent weight for all weapons.

  • “Slingshot” EM range-extender: This is an additional impulse EM field coil to extend the range of the weapon. “Slingshot” is (fictitious) jargon.
  • Laser sight: This is a constant, low-power laser that helps in targeting. It is the same as today’s laser sights.
  • Low-capacity auxiliary weapon: This is a secondary weapon option for the pistol, though the size limitation means the weapon’s power and/or ammunition capacity is quite small. Examples include mini-explosive launchers and one-shot beam weapons.

"Being that this is a P-12 Barracuda railgun, the most powerful handgun in the galaxy, you've got to ask yourself one question..."

This was done during issue one's production as a joke.

Environmental Interface (EI)

Environmental Interface (EI):
Although it might appear otherwise at first glance, the L’Ni are not humanoid lifeforms. They are highly advanced beings whose natural forms are made of pure energy. This makes their understanding of the universe vastly different from humans’, of course, as their interactions are not based on matter. If a L’Ni wishes to alter something, she or he must do so using energy. They have no physical matter to push or pull against other matter. While it might seem almost supernatural to humans, using energy in this way is as instinctive to them as for a human to push his hand against a light switch to force it off.

This deep-rooted understanding of how each species changes the universe around them was a great obstacle in early meetings between L’Ni and humans. To make these interactions easier, the L’Ni decided to take on forms similar to their new friends’.

Despite the physical similarities, however, the L’Ni still found it easiest to manipulate their world using energy. As the L’Ni provided humanity with the many technological advances that have led to the current age, they built in ways in which they too could easily access these devices. These inputs and outputs respond to energy modulations produced by the L’Ni. Such control mechanisms are universally referred to as the Environmental Interface, or EI.

Of course, humanoid forms cannot alter their energies easily enough to use the EI. Hence, when a physical L’Ni body is created, it contains an extensive array of integrated sensors and energy controls. These appear on the skin of the L’Ni as swirling, blue tattoos which light up when the L’Ni is interacting with an EI system. Such “tattoos” interact best when there is as little matter between them and the EI technology as possible. Hence the proclivity of L’Ni to wear as little as modesty allows, so they are free to interact with the world in a way that is both familiar and efficient.

EI access is not universal, however. A L’Ni is given clearance to access EI based on her or his needs at the time. For instance, Lae’Shaar’s current mission allows her access to certain types of EI deemed necessary for a diplomat on an investigative mission among humans.

The one universal permission granted to all EI tattoos is a link to the Universal Library, the great collection of knowledge made up of the wisdom and experiences of every L’Ni who has ever lived. Instantaneous access to this repository is one of the greatest strengths of their species and is a source of almost spiritual pride and reverence for all L’Ni.

So then this happened...

Thanks guys.

Sci-fi lovers are going to love this series. Details like the make and technology behind one of the protagonists' weapons are abundant during production of this book. These two truly love the genre and it shows in the world building for this series. It's really neat to see.

I absolutely love the Dirty Harry Candace pic, Yuri. Outstanding!

Hunted #1 Promo featuring Abigail Longley as Commander Candace

This is a tongue-in-cheek, faux artistic magazine spread of Abigail Longley, who plays Commander Candace in "Hunted." The left panel shows the actress relaxing at home, while the right panel shows her dressed up in another film. As always, Yuri finds a fantastic opportunity to show a foot shot in the piece. He has a true talent for it!

This is too awesome, thanks for posting this :bouncybou

I suppose we could request D.C's attorneys to grant us the right to post their blueberry pie as part of our tickling torture comic book, but if I were to shake my legal 8-ball: "Outlook not so good." Oh well :)

Hunted #1 releases in three days. www.the-agencies.com has been updated to include the comic line information within. Can't wait for folks to see this one. Below is the splash page of the girls looking badass, as only Yurihausen can make them.

Great to see this in a comic like that :)

A awesome story, wonderful dialouges and very great tickling :D

I love this new comic and I'm glad you had this new idea :)
A wonderful journey and I cannot wait part 2
Congrats :)

PS: ...saw the teaser for Yelena 5 :typerhappy:
This close up alone makes me shiver in happiness:lover:

I just read the first issue a bit ago. It is going to be a great series. Well worth the price.

Having been a fan of comics for far more years than I'd like to count now, one of the things that has kept coming up is the concept of timelines. What happened in the early days? What happens before that? What happens to the present if we change one event in the past? What happens in the future? What happens further into the future?

It's this last part that connects to Hunted. This is the far future of Agency Publishing's universe. Ultimately, we'll see how events in the other comic lines, even events we haven't published yet, will affect the future.

This issue sees a fairly peaceful, near-Utopian future shaken by our villain. This sets the status quo into a spiral of entropy that will continue to build as the series progresses. The shiny, clean future gets a bit tarnished, and it's fun for us, as the readers, to get to see this. But this isn't just a new series or a new issue 1, though both of these are exciting. This is the look, the first step, into that future. And that makes it even more special and exciting.

We hope you'll embark with us on this journey, into the future.

Thanks Jon, and I couldn't agree more. It's really neat to see a continuous storyline among seven (omg 7!!) different storylines and comic books come together and affect each other in a meaningful way. Even this summer's releases of Tickle Magnet and Cyriaan Chronicles (which we've kept rather mum about) will start having storylines that tie in to the rest of the books. So that's really fun to see.

This was a great Issue #1. You and Yurihausen really worked hard on this project for months, and should be proud of its release. The artwork is stylistic, amazing, and the direction and editing style you've brought to the table is truly second to none.

I can't wait to release Hunted #2 in a couple weeks, either :)

Thanks General Zod, I'm glad you liked the price point and hope you are on a long journey with us throughout future releases of this book!

Ha! Yes, Yelena #6 is going to release June 2013. It's the same line artist as Yelen #5 but we changed colorists. The colorist for Yelena #5 did an amazing job, but he's a bit overburdened right now, so we're just keeping him focused on The Ruthless. Regardless, this new colorist has a genuine talent and she's not worked on a commercial production before, as far as I know. After literally dozens of portfolios and applications, she was the clear winner for the line art style. I know you'll be pleased with the new look :)

Oh and right, Hunted #1 :) I'm glad you liked, my friend. Yurihausen is amazing, and I'm glad we were able to secure his talents for this line. His eye for environments and character modeling fits in great into a sci-fi adventure. When we started production, Mass Effect 3 had just released, so we all discussed at the time how much we loved sci-fi, gaming, and that series in particular. It played some role in influencing this series, no doubt. In fact, Yuri put together an awesome pinup that features two of the characters fight in a video game fighting style kind of motif which made me lol. We'll share it soon when we start promoting Hunted #2.

What he said (thanks General Zod).

Hunted #1 was nudity-free (unless you consider upskirt shots partial nudity). Jonathan Essex will pen future issues of Hunted so he will set the tone on what kind of scenes the series showcases. Hunted #2 is now finished and there is a lovely amount of toplessness-ocity in the book.

Can't wait for Hunted 2. When will it be released?

Glad to hear it!

Hunted #2 releases May 17th. Just one more week! And what a great issue it is. Jon and Yuri make a great team on the sci-fi front.

This issue was awesome. Just looks a lot different which is a good thing. I love the blonde. Nothing more to say except can't wait until no.2 comes out
