It's been a long time since we had a release in The Ruthless. While I appreciate the hard work that went into earlier issues of the series, the last couple of issues here weren't 100% capturing the spirit, look, and feel of The Ruthless. Part of our overall artwork improvement initiative also hits this comic line, and we've hired two studios that go together like a wink and a smile: FragComics and Dany. You know Dany from his coloring work on Yelena #5, where he helped bring that comic line back from the dead. Well, he's back now, working full-time on The Ruthless, and we couldn't be happier! His coloring style is nothing short of amazing as he brings Antonio's gritty line art to life in a way we've not seen here before at Agency Publishing.

The storyline continues here as Stacia has more or less abandoned her combatants Tracy, Ariel, and Doctor Collins to let them settle their scores in a drag down, knockout, one woman standing format of battle. Last we saw, Ariel had just gotten the upper hand on both Doctor Collins and Tracy. Ariel is still angered at the humiliating tickle torture she suffered at the hands of Doctor Collins in The Ruthless #6, and seeks to pay the good doctor back tenfold. Ariel also has had a celebrity spat with Tracy for some time, and wishes to inflict the ultimate humiliation on her adversary. Now that this sadistic, redheaded teen pop idol has both her enemies at her mercy, armed with part of Stacia's cape which allows her to create anything she wishes, is there anything that could possibly stop her from totally destroying the other two? Check out the issue and see!

Here is a pinup we iniitally released on our Deviant Art site http://agency-publishing.deviantart.com/ last Christmas as part of a holiday sneak peak. Here it is again as part of the official The Ruthless #9 celebration thread. Here we see Doctor Collins in a Mrs. Clause outfit, kissing Rylie's toes (under the mistletoe) as Rylie is in the stocks. Rylie is wearing an angel's outfit, and as she shakes and writhes with laughter in the stocks, her wings tickle the underarms of Tracy (left) and Ariel (right).

I found this to be a rather cute piece. It shows how well the line artist and colorist complement each other's styles, as well as cutely show the protagonists in the series in holiday clothing. I liked how Ariel's tights came out, as well as some pieces of the Mrs. Clause outfit.

Deemon-Tickle was also kind enough to let me know I misnumbered this thread. We're also working on lineart for #9 right now, so I got muddled up between the two. It happens 🙂 Thank you for the correction!

Here is a production still of page 2. This is broken out into four pieces, one for each stage of production. The first is the storyboard, when the artist generally shows us the angles and positioning of everything on the page. Then after the storyboards are approved we graduate into the pencils stage, the second box shown here. Then the inks, the third box. Then the final colors in the last box.

This panel shows Ariel gently licking a toothbrush that she's about to use to awesome effect. It's a bit of a taunting, bitchy move for her. Then again, she's kind of a bitchy, taunting character, so it's all good.

Over the last few issues of The Ruthless, and even some other Agency Publishing title,s we've seen Stacia's fame (or infamy) in her world grow. She's garnered more than a few fans and become something of a celebrity, even if it hasn't been for the most peaceful reasons. But Stacia's goals, and her powers, mean that simple fame isn't enough. She is a goddess. And what's the difference between a celebrity and a deity? Followers. (And not the kind on Twitter.)

Although Dr. Collins has long been an ally of Stacia's, in this issue, we see a real step up in the "cult of personality" that is forming around the Ruthless. It represents a fundamental change in how the other characters, and the rest of the world, will begin to view and interact with her.

Of course, it's not all so deadly serious. There's plenty of great tickling action to be had in this issue. I'm sure fans will not be disappointed in this, or in the next phase of the story of The Ruthless.

Here is another sample from the interiors. As the issue progresses, we begin to learn that Ariel has a very strong sadistic streak running through her. She seeks not only to torment and humiliate her enemies, but absolutely destroy them. She understands Tracy cannot stand what is being done to her. Instead of continuing the torment, she wants to ratchet up the pressure to personally see Tracy's demise.

And another example of Ariel taking advantage of poor defenseless Tracy. Legs spread, totally helpless, quite ticklish. Tsk, tsk.

Stacia would later note that Ariel's sadism comes from some place deep, deep inside. A buried id waiting to jump free, if only opportunity presented itself.

Right now the artwork is penciled/inked. It has just entered the coloring phase. I have a tentative release date of September 13th for that one. I want to emphasize "tentative." I don't set the dates in stone (or at least hard clay 🙂 ) until after they show up as coming attractions in the comics. Until that point, this schedule is just a "if nothing goes wrong" scenario.

And things often go wrong.

I am glad you purchased The Ruthless #8 and are able to enjoy it multiple times. The line art has improved for #9, I will say that. It will be worth waiting for.
