Um, like since the term has been round dude? That's how long it's been a Racial term. You know what a Racial term is right? It's a term used to describe a group of people that's not thier actual name, usually used in a negative way. Yanks would be one o those terms... And I hate being called a yank, just like black people hate being called a n.... by someone that isn't black...
Because "American" is a race... You're confusing racism with xenophobia, but it doesn't really matter since neither of those terms are applicable right now. Do you hate the New York
Yankees too, just because of the name? Do you think ST hates the Vancouver
Canucks? Have you ever heard of a team called the Boston N......? 99,9% of the time Yankee is NOT used as a derogatory term, so just get over it dude. Sounds more like you're just trying to start a conflict right now, which by itself is all good and well since there's supposed to be strong emotions in international sports - especially in such a big rivalry like Canada-USA. But sersiously... the fact that you put "Yankee" in the same category as RACISM is just beyond me, and quite frankly not only terrifyingly ignorant, but (to us in the real world) also more upsetting than anything ST could have ever meant with his comment.
The reason I call it an inaccurate racial term is because people don't know what a Yank is, a Yank is not an American. a Yank is someone in the northern United States, it was a word created to describe people fighting for the North during our Civil War... so it does not men all Americans, but people from european countries tend to use it now a days to insult all Americans, not just the people who are actually "Yanks".
People are well aware what a Yankee used to be, but the language evolves. I don't see why you have to live in the 19th century.
You are right that Europeans use it though, but not in an insultive way. I use the Swedish word for Yankee ("Jänkare") absolutely all the time, but it means nothing. It's like when I call British people "limeys"; they take it as a piece of humour, so why can't you?
but anyways... USA is gonna beat Canada today if you all didn't know.
Would be good for the sport, but you'll probably have to eat those words. You might have beaten Canada once in this tournament, but they were clearly the better team even if they lost. No offense to any Americans here, but hockey is Canada's game. There's no arguing that. The US got lucky in the "wrong" game, and I doubt they'll have that luck twice - with or without Miller.
We clobbered the Krauts, and the Ruskies, but the Slavs reminded us never to assume victory with there two goals in Period 3. Hopefully all the lessons learned in the last 3 rounds will help us get the gold. However, if it has to be somebody else, better the Yankee's then a European.
LOL! Best comment ever! ...even though it came from a filthy Canuck!
