2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics

An update for all:

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada are the gold medals winners in Figure Skating Pairs - Ice Dance. They are the first Canadians ever to win gold in this event, the first North Americans ever to win gold at this event and the second highest score in competitive ice dance history.

I think that's deserving of a DAMN!!! 😀 😀 😀 :canada:

AWESOME GO CANADA!!! :canada:

.... and Ashleigh McIvor just won GOLD in the Women's Ski Cross! :happyhop: That's 6 Gold for Canada! 😀

They may not "Own the Podium", but they're only 1 back of the lead for Gold... :canada:

Germans are on deck for Team Canada! 😱

My favorite Olympic moment so far:

Sorry Leafy 😀

Ohhhhhh man! That hurt right there :jester:

Well Canada has gotten past Germany 8-2 so up next...them Ruskis with that Ovie guy. 😛

I can't recall any Olympics where we had this many gold medals with medal strengths left... potentially we could have 10 golds, not bad for actually getting gold on home soil: Men's and Women's Curling and Men's and Women's Hockey...though it looks like the ladies riding that two-man sled might rake in another Gold... considering they burned up the track in both runs, setting course records on both runs.

Hopefully when all is said and done, we don't Own The Podium but maybe we own the colour Gold...

I don't want to cause a fight, because well I already did in the chatroom but i felt the need to remind you that you still have to get through USA for the Hockey gold... and despite what some people might think, that's not as easy as you might think...

Hence the potentially and hopefully... there's no need to hate: the entire Men's Hockey is evenly-matched, any one of several countries could win Gold, be it the States, Canada, Russia, the Swedes heck even the Finns if Kipprusoff plays on his head. We're all passionate about our teams, I think we all just need to chill out, have a :gbtoast: and watch some awesome hockey, wouldn't you agree?

Usually... I just got annoyed by a couple people in the chat room last night that were disrespecting USA's hockey team and so now I want Canada t get creamed. I don' think that would happen, I think USA will beat them again so someone can shut up about it being luck because it wasn't. Which kinda sucks that I feel this way because I like Canada. and if USA wasn't in the Gold medal match I'd root for them. But I don't feel like that anymore.. of course USA is going to be in the Gold Medal match so I wouldn't root for Canada anyways, but yeah lol.

The USA-Canada thing is all good and well, but in the mens tournament you will have to fight your differences out in the bronze medal game. Sorry! :neenerneener:

Here's to a Sweden-Finland rematch for the gold! I want Finland to make it as well, just so we can beat them again! :woot: 😀

On a more serious note though, did you guys see the hit on Bartecko in the Slovakia-Norway game?!? 😱 That was hardcore, and actually lost the Norwegians the game with the ensuing 5 minute penalty. In even strength they actually beat Slovakia 3-1! =O

Also, the refs didn't show up for the last period... that was lame as hell!

The Gold Medal game for Men's hockey will be Canada defeating Adam West by a score of 16 - 12.

The Bronze medal will be shared between Sweden and Kermit the Frog.

That is all.

Do you really believe that'll happen? Because I think you might have to deal with the bronze game like your women... USA for the Gold! 😛

^ Sweden = defending champion, and this is one of the best teams we've ever fielded in the history of hockey. Had only Forsberg and Lidstrom been in their primes I would have had a hockeygasm. 😀

The US has a good team, and basically a bye into the finals already since they'll be facing inferior opposition all the way there, but I think their team is still too young. Anything can happen in hockey, but I've stopped holding the US as a potential darkhorse since they always prove me wrong by choking when they reach the quarter or the semi. In 2014 they will DEFINITELY be a gold favorite though. Lots of young and promising players coming up!

Anyways... So... are you guys ready for SUPER WEDNESDAY or what? :woot:

I'll post my predictions for the games:

USA-Switzerland
Ok, least exciting game of the evening. The US will crush Switzerland like it's nobody's business. The Swiss ARE good enough to at least put up a fight, but I think they are too tired after their game against Belarus.

A rested Team USA will win this by 3 or 4 goals at least, but don't be surprised if the score runs away further in the final period.

Russia-Canada
Russia has the advantage of being rested, but Canada didn't have too much trouble with Germany and hopefully (for them) didn't play at 100% in that game. Offensively Russia is the better team, but overall Canada looks stronger. Some people would try to argue that Canada has goaltending issues, but I just don't see it. Luongo will start, and as much as I love picking on him when he plays in the NHL he is a GREAT goaltender. But Pronger, Crosby and a couple of other players will have to step it up in this game. Crosby was in on 3 US goals in the last game, and Pronger was a worthless fucking pylon. So yeah... step it up, guys! And hopefully Doughty will continue to be as great as he was in the last game.

Ovechkin will be a threat for sure, but back during the World Juniors Canada successfully shut him down with Mike Richards, so maybe they should try that again. Will be a close game though... Hopefully high-scoring. I say Canada win by one goal, probably in overtime.

Finland - Czech Republic
Finland has had a DECENT tournament so far. Nothing more. But the Czechs didn't impress me either in their game against Latvia. On paper the Czechs look better though, but I'm rooting for Finland to play lights out tonight and win it.

This game could go either way.

Sweden - Slovakia
Slovakia got pushed hard by NORWAY, and might have even lost if they hadn't had so many powerplays. The team looked ridiculously shaky out there, and even scared. They haven't convinced me so far - despite their win over Russia earlier in the tournament. Back in the world championship of 2007 Slovakia basically had the same stars they have now, with Gaborik, Demitra, Hossa, Satan, Chara, Strbak, Jurcina, and of course Halak in the net, and that time they faced a Swedish C-team, with only one NHL-player on the roster in Alexander fucking Steen. Not impressive by any means, but that time the teams also met in a quarter final, and Sweden won that game 7-4. That was Sweden's C-team, like I said. This time Slovakia has a very similar roster, but they're up against the best that Sweden has to offer. Given their performance against Norway it shouldn't even be close, but I suppose in hockey you just never know.

I say 4-0 Sweden, just because it would be cool if Lundqvist could have yet ANOTHER shutout! XD Hopefully Peter Forsberg will show up in this game as well. He's been awesome so far, don't get me wrong, but he's been looking a bit slow out there (he's been sick from stomach flu).

USA will defeat the Swiss.

Canada will defeat Russia in overtime.

Finland will defeat the Czech Republic (Jagr be injured, yo).

Slovakia will defeat Sweden on the strength of their last-minute-addition goaltender:

OPTIMUS PRIME!!!!

Slovaks! Transform and roll out! :woot:

Snail Shell

Josh, you are a frickin' lunatic sometimes. You know that, right? 😀

But yeah, forgot Jagr was out. Should've mentioned that! >_<

Psh, Forsberg will send that little shit to the hospital in no-time! 😀

Congrats also go out to:
The Canadian Ladies 3000m Relay Team (Silver)
Both Canada 1 (Gold) and Canada 2 (Silver) Women's Two-man bobsleigh teams
and Clara Hughes (Bronze), one of the few Olympians to win multiple medals in both the Summer and Winter Olympics.

Cars, all kidding and trash talk aside, you know if that Team Canada shows up on Friday, Lundquist is going back to Sweden with a maple leaf tattooed on the inside wall of his colon, right?

😉

Whatever, Canadian... :neenerneener:

We'll make an example of Slovakia tonight, but your impending doom is written in stone! :mwahaha: 😀

I'll remember that when Nick Lidstrom is removing a Canadian flag and seven empty beer bottles from his ass crack on the flight home.

I mean look at your style of playing. It's so old, it from the Bronze Age.

Carso... ur team has one more period to win... they're down 3-2. Step it up!!!!

The refs have been killing us, but we'll murder them in the third. Don't worry!

...we'll beat the Slovaks as well, if we have the time. 😀 😉

Sorry... 4-3 Slovakia though Alfredsson's goal was nice.
