now this post will probably cause some controversy, but i think it needs to be addressed. this is a spinoff from the thread "i like rap music". it seems like the common stereotype about rap music is that the artists call women bitches. problem is, people misunderstand why they call women bitches. first of all, they are NOT saying ALL women are bitches. "bitch" is the word used for a woman that, well, isnt a very nice person. they are refering to women who do not take care of themselves, have a stuck up attitude and just act like, well, a bitch. but for some reason, people (who dont even bother listening to rap closely) assume they are talking about all women. if that was so, then they are calling their mothers, grandmothers, etc a bitch. hell, artists have even made songs where they explain what a bitch is.

women who take care of themselves, act intelligient, act responsibly, and treat others kindly are not refered to as bitches. it is women who are not respected that are called bitches. so, next time you hear a rap artist, or anyone else for that matter, call a woman a bitch, keep in mind he isnt saying ALL women are bitches. it is a particular woman who pissed him off, or a bunch of them who act like fools. it's just like calling all men assholes. a bitch and an asshole have certain behavior types that people dont like. i hope this clears it up just a bit for some of those anti-rap people out there. if you still claim that they are speaking about all women, i invite you to listen to a song by 2pac called "Wonder why they call you bitch". or read these lyrics by Ice Cube when he was a member of NWA.

Believe it or not... A lot of people who use the words nigger, spic, wap, chink, or any other racial slurs only feel that way about certain members of the race targeted. The simple truth of the matter is that a certain percentage of both genders and each race are trash. If you think about it, that really is part of equality. If each race and gender are equal to the others, then we must have an equal number of idiots among our subgroups. The point I'm trying to make is that if a black person, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, or any other minority calls a white person honky, peckerwood, cornbread, or whatever, that's ok. Yet, if a white person uses any of the slurs that I mentioned from my first post, he/she's a labeled as a racist. If you'll notice, most white people don't seem to care when they have a slur used against them, but a lot of minorities freak out over the use of one against them. The mature minorities I've known seem to be capable of shrugging off slurs the same way that many whites do. What I'm addressing is, why is it a one-way street? Why can minorities use slurs against each other, but when a white person says them, he/she is automatically a racist?

Yes, Chris Rock was talking about the black experience, but any perceptive white (or person of any other race) can recognize black trash just as easily as they can recognize white trash. Like I said, every race has its trash, and recognizing this fact doesn't make the person racist. Laugh all you want about my observation about racism, but until you seriously discuss this matter, you're not really gonna make much sense.

Rose, we normally seem to be on the same page when it comes to a lot of issues, but I suppose this is where we deviate. On the one hand, Ice Cube seems to be expressing a lot of angst toward women in general, but on the other hand, he is being somewhat specific. The only problem I have with this song is that it seems to condone violence toward women, which I'm against unless the woman is physically attacking me.

I'll just put it this way... To me, a woman that is snobby or backstabbing is a bitch. In that respect, I agree with Ice Cube. A woman who thinks for herself and bucks the trends of domestication and submission that are somewhat espoused by our society is NOT a bitch. Then again, I don't see any part of this song that attacks those things. Ice Cube seems to just be releasing anger toward uppity women that are overly materialistic. I could be wrong, but that kind of anger seems justified (although the violence implied isn't).

now, as for your question about if you carried yourself in a manner a man doesnt like, does that mean you are a bitch? well, according to that man, yes. but notice that it has to be a certain manner. this obviously leads to interpretation, but you can probably guess why the man would think that way. it wasnt because you were nice and sweet with him, you probably didnt see him, rejected his ridiculous advances or something to make him upset. does that mean he is justified in calling you a bitch? obviously not, because you are not one. the man was probably an asshole anyway, so why be concerned if he called you that?

good point you brought up, but the whole point of me bringing this up is because people assume rap artists are calling ALL women bitches. i am simply saying that they are not calling ALL women bitches, just certain ones that crossed their paths. but for some strange reason, everyone wants to pick on rap artists, when general society uses the insult.

As far as I'm concerned, it describes a female dog. I don't know how old you are, but when I was a kid, the only definition in the book was that to describe a female dog. I, my dead mother, nor my daughter fit into that category. I don't believe in evolution either so I can't be sold on that theory.

If women don't mind being called bi**hes, that is their cross to bear. It is still derogotory and just plain wrong. No amount of evolution will change that for me at all. I just respect myself too much to accept societal norms.

I do agree with you regarding the "nigga" remarks. Whether you change the spelling, you still have a derogotory term to describe a race of people who shouldn't be using it on themselves. So much for evolution! We should know better by now.

obviously you are reading something WAY different in the lyrics. the lyrics are pretty straight forward, so for you to get a different interpretation is flat out amazing. tell me Drew, WHERE do you see Ice Cube dissin' a woman who wont go out (smile, have sex with, etc..) with him? as for saying Ice Cube is a loser to the nth degree shows me the ignorance you have in regards to rap music. Ice Cube is an ICON in the rap music business. he's made movies, including one which is a cult favorite, "Friday". the movie "Barbershop" is also a successful movie. he doesnt sound like a loser to me. again, if you know nothing of rap, stop making asinine comments like you have been doing. Ice Cube a loser? man, you really need to stop..... what did you think of 2pac's lyrics? same interpretation? i find it hilarious though that you accuse me of not seeing something in the lyrics even though i listen to the music, but someone who doesnt can tell me what they mean. shall we call the man who wrote them and ask him what he meant? i can guarantee you it wont be your intrepretation.

now, for the word "nigga". i know i shouldnt, but i will assume (yeah, yeah we know what happens when you assume) that kis123 or Drew isnt African American. actually it doesnt matter, but the word "nigga" is actually different from "nigger". how you ask? blacks dont call each other "nigger", we call each other "nigga". now, this may be hard to understand, but calling each other "nigga" is okay to some black people. if one black person calls another black person "nigga", how can it be an insult? plus, if you think about it, if the word is used in a positive manner to call someone, it takes the "bite" out of the word. same with "bitch". that's why some women call each other "bitches" (actually some men call each other bitches). but one thing i noticed is, only black people can call each other "nigga". if another race does it, then anger will result. it also depends on the context of the word. for example, 2 black teenagers acknowledge each other by saying "what's up my nigga?" it's okay because it's used in friendly terms. but if someone, usually a non black, were to say "nigga", it would totally depend on circumstance. if used as an insult (and you can tell when it is) then you will have problems. it is hard to explain, but all i can say is, it depends on who's calling who a "nigga".

kis123, you would be surprised on what men call each other. "bitch" is tame compared to what men call each other whether it's friendly or not. you can take the word "bitch" however you like, but when people are accused of calling an ENTIRE gender, i find something wrong with that when they never did that. that's why i put up the 2pac lyrics. the woman he described isnt exactly a saint, and despite the warnings to "shape up", the woman continues to live a certain lifestyle. that's why she's called a bitch.

everyone will have their opinions and i know some wont change from this thread. i felt that there should be another view as to why women are refered to as bitches. there are two sides to every story. i also find it quite amazing that someone who doesnt even like the genre of rap can tell fans of the music what is actually going on in it. For the record, I'm an African-American female. I still don't like the terms bi*ch or "nigga". The correct term is Negro. Then, some idiot turned it into "nigger". Now, a bunch of rappers turn it into "nigga" and that's supposed to make it better? I don't think so. I don't allow the word in my home because, once again, it's derogotory and demeaning language.

I'm going to tell you just how serious I am about this. I don't tolerate any name-calling in my home. The names I gave my children and are on their birth certificates are sufficient.

You see, I was verbally abused during my childhood and as well as in my marriage. Bi*ch was the ex's favorite word, and my father used it too along with some of the worst names I've ever been called in my life.

I believe that if someone says something to you long enough, you buy into it. That's why I don't find it acceptable at all. It has taken me years to find any self-esteem or self-worth. I'm not about to let a bunch of gang-banger wanna b's take it away in order to sell some records.
