Hahaha. I love being used an example. 🙂

Correct on both counts. They are to act as a user-generated method of highlighting relevant content in a thread. In an optimal environment, they would serve to help users find related content without having to structure a search. You can see a nice representation of the Tags on the Tag Search page. An example of their use comes with, say, looking for media featuring Addie Juniper (to pick one in the cloud). Clicking her name in the cloud (or searching through tags for it) quickly gives you a list of threads relevant to her.

It's a useful feature if not abused. So don't abuse it; we really dislike having to turn things off because folks can't behave when given leeway.

I don't think Myr is so humorless as to say 'no tags unless they're serious'. Example: if someone tags one of Jo's threads with 'failboat has arrived', it refers to Jo and how she fails 🙂D). Plus, it is just playful ribbing among community members. But one's that violate the GR like some of the ones that end up all over Sketch's threads, for example will get the tag function shut down.

I could be wrong though.

There are people who acutally use and read the tags?? Wow. Now I am amazed! 🙂

Yeah, I've noticed that. Honestly I've done this on occasion, but only with one tag, the rest relevant. I personally don't even find it amusing when it's just being spammed because the whole thing I found amusing was it was just one at random. But eh, yeah it's kind of a fad now with some and is going a bit far.

:happyfloaIs it wrong that I never pay attention to tags anyways?

I spotted the tags and did wonder what was going on.

I just assumed it was a game of silly buggers or an acid flashback.

I just need some clarification. Are silly tags still allowed, as long as they are not intentionally belittling a poster?

For example, if I were to make "Cleveland Rocks!" a tag because someone placed a clip of the Drew Carey Show in a thread that really had nothing to do with the show to begin with, would that be acceptable?

LMAO - now you just made me watch the theme song to Drew Carey on youtube - thanks alot.

Tag things with appropriate tags. Don't use tags to GR people. Don't use tags to be snarky about people's posts. Don't abuse them.

Jesus. So now people are using a function that I knew absolutely nothing about to attack people. Brilliant.

I've never used or even paid attention to the tags in my seven years here. It would seem pretty sad to have to kill the function because of a few people not using them correctly.

A constructive suggestion, I hope, to Myriads, and HDS:. Might it be productive to place a sticky somewhere about the proper and improper use of tags, so people understand how and how not to use them? It looked to me like some people were confused, and maybe such a sticky would help clear things up?
