When I was much younger, I had a recurring nightmare; an underground bottomless chasm that would exist underneath my home, a rift in the earth that was both terrifying and fascinating in great magnitude.
When I saw this new comic announced, this old feeling of fear and wonder was rekindled, and I knew it was something special.
Thank you, Will Georges! YES! Exactly the same feeling I had… I love the word "chasm!"
I was not mistaken. I would agree with C.A.B. who commented before me, that this comic is possibly the best tickle-comic to be released in a very long time. Why? Well, there's a number of factors.
There's two common types of tickling fetish stories. Those that make elaborate excuses to allow for the omnipresence of tickling in their respective universes, and those that just assume it as normal in a comical and slightly absurd way.
I am so VERY grateful with C.A.B.’s opening words and you backing it up. It really means a lot to an artist. It’s an immersion. A bloody passionate immersion working on tickling art… I love every second of time spent doing the comic, I’d say again. My mission is more than accomplished by those powerful comments you both have given. Thank you!
This particular comic though, presents a cyberpunk story in a universe (a future version of our world) that is so very strange, one does not perceive the tickling element to be jarring or forced. It just becomes part of the flow of the outlandish features of this futuristic world we're exploring.
But this is an element that has become almost a trademark of Bohemianne/Annoxanti's comics; much thought has gone into the role of tickling -and fetishism- in these stories. Why do we want to include these fetish elements in our comics? Why draw these comics at all? Those are the questions often asked by us fetish artists. Are we persuing greater knowledge about those dark urges and drives that lurk in the recesses of our subconscious? Is this drawing and painting perhaps a way to explore, to probe these hidden aspects of our psyche? And are these comic projects perhaps the theses of such research? I do believe they are. It should not surprise anyone if they proved to be, as AnnoXanti is known to have written some essays on the tickling fetish (not easy to read, I admit, but still remarkable pieces of philosophical research).
Every release of the comic is a great challenge on self-expression and letting the readers ride with it. Like the way I implied in those essays, it is passing through sieves, experiencing things within and letting it out. I could get vague, but don’t intend to. I am amazed you were able to capture those silent wailing of an artist, it is like a pure pressure exploding out from an air-tight space.
So seeing the announcement of this release, and knowing Bohemianne's excellent track record of coming up with intriguing storylines, I knew this one was going to be good, storywise. If there ever was a Philip K Dick in the Tickling genre, it would have to be her.
Hahaha…I have to google Philip K! OMG…
But how about the art? Well, I would say I was quite struck by the style here. Much of the backgrounds seem to be cgi-assisted, but they are seamlesly bleded in with the character art. The style is clean, yet retains a feel of hand-colourration. I am reminded of the work of grandmaster Jean "Moebius" Giraud here. That's all I can say, really. Clean, simple, elegant, masterful. That describes the drawing style in this comic the best.
It’s quite an effort to blend them. I actually did the background modeling of important parts from page 1 to 8. It is only the first time I used my other skills into an experimental combination. This comic theme would need it badly. Then I tried as hard to retain my old traditional style…
Fetish content... this sort of ties in with the visual style, it is incredibly sexy to see the main character undergoing the ticklish torment in the sealed room prior to be tumbling naked in the mag-lev chair through the abyss, but the situations that follow get progressively more intense.
I quite enjoyed the octopussies; kinky, drone-like figures with gloves that have a texture similar to an ocopus' tentacles, but I was quite amazed by the way the "naughty bits" were portrayed. For some reason, the delirious, flower-based visualizations were a stroke of genius. Don't get me wrong, I am quite cool with watching explicit fetish content, but the allegorical nature of these images just fits so perfectly into the outlandish atmosphere of the story and the universe it is set in.
In conclusion, I would say this comic is a rare gem of fetish artistry. To me it is anyway. Well done, AnnoXanti, we can only hope to aspire to such talent as yours!
And you would express it all in your very own intellectual POV! It’s been hard to balance, draw, project…but this is what makes doing the comic a real challenging task, and to let another pure artist see what I mean in its detailed subtleties… I am blown away especially it’s coming from an exceptional artist like you. The labor of love must have surfaced. Thank you Will Georges. I’m sure it will help me grow.
I loved the realistic and attention to anatomy in this piece. Great job!
Thank you, Tomato Dragon, for the kind words and noticing the anatomy. Yes I paid attention to it as well!
This looks tremendously ambitious, Bohemianne! A fully realized world of intrigue and menace, for which a fetish overlay can add incredible distinction! Your mastery of digital technique is thrillingly evident in the offered art... the cover descent into the Abyss is a harrowing image which employs a giddy high-angle and diminishing perspective to arresting effect! Reluctant operative Carla truly is being abandoned to hellish futuristic abuse beyond any hope of rescue! Or is she?... only further reading can determine that!
Thank you Low Roads. It is my first first digital comic... and the good thing about a comic/fiction, no person gets really abused, LOL!
When you have to scrutinize the comics the way I do, sometimes it's hard to enjoy the plot, the story, etc the way a regular reader would. However, when going through The Abyss, I found myself having to go over pages multiple times. The lifelike illustrations and scary-sexy scenes were so captivating, I would forget the job I was doing. 🙂
Tickling can be playful and fun, but if you're looking for something a little darker, The Abyss is not to be missed. One of my favorites, anyway.
Great job, Annoxanti.
Thank you for the kind words, AnnieHall. I do love a lady's POV about the comic. You meant it well. You rarely appear in the art section. I feel much honored by it.
Just purchased and i have to say i'm a bit disappointed, not for the quality of the product no, i love your style, let's say it's a matter of personal taste: I was expected something much more intense, something more extreme than this one. Again it's a good one but not enough good for me.
This is only my opinion.
It’s alright, Lorak31. Thank you for the feedback, for the patronage and being honest. As far as I remember the last time, you gave HADES 1 & 2 a very inspiring comment. I still feel great about it until now.
............
Thank you, Jim for all the great support!!!! Thank you, folks, for the great support you do for this comic!
