Gotta agree with Mav on this one, but with the addition that I've NO doubt that ghosts, spirits, whatever name you call 'em....exist.
Here's an intersting little article that I saw on the press a while back.🙂

LONDON (Reuters) - Mobile phones are killing off ghosts, an expert who has spent years researching the occult has said.
Tony Cornell, of the Society for Psychical Research, told the Sunday Express newspaper that reports of ghost sightings had started to decline when mobile phones were introduced 15 years ago.
"Ghost sightings have remained consistent for centuries. Until three years ago we'd receive reports of two new ghosts every week," said Cornell, of Cambridge in Eastern England.
"But with the introduction of mobile phones 15 years ago, ghost sightings began to decline to the point where now we are receiving none."
According to the paper, haunted tourist attractions in Britain could be under threat if the number of cellphones continues to grow from the present figure of 39 million
Apparently paranormal events, which some scientists put down to unusual electrical activity, could be drowned out by the electronic noise produced by phone calls and text messages.

My thoughts:
Now that half the world has a phone glued to its ear, people are less likely to have attention available to notice the subtleties of the paranormal.
I speculate that the reason we don't have the same faerie, ghost, and god/goddess stories of ancient times, is not because they aren't around. It's because people quit noticing them, and choose other "logical" or "natural" explanations for the frankly paranormal.
But of course this is one of my more steady rants, I suppose! *grin*
On the other hand... What if, as popularized (maybe) in the TV mini-series, "Merlin," beings of the Otherworld (including ghosts) need energy/attention from us in the form of recognition, if not actual worship? What if, without the attention, ghosts don't have the energy to manifest so obviously, so they're "dying"? (Okay, that'd be redundant... they're already dead *grin*)
Or, what if the majority of residual energy hauntings are not a fine example of perpetual motion, but actually refuel from the energy/attention of those who observe the phenomena... and, without so many people noticing now that cellphones make it possible to walk, chew gum, AND talk at the same time...
Well, you get the idea.
I'd consider that yes, maybe we're seeing fewer residual energy hauntings. Maybe.
But I'd be reluctant to say that the actual ghosts are vanishing or whatever.
And I'd have some reeeeeal questions about cellphones being able to banish them, anyway. Besides, we've seen cellphones simply not work in haunted settings. So, it seems to me that the ghosts can affect the cellphones as much--or more than--vice versa.
Then again, as I've said before, I know jusssst enough about electrical stuff to be inept! *grin*
I mean, we know that digital cameras tend to pick up more "orbs" than regular cameras, which suggests a paranormal/electrical connection, so to speak. So maybe there is something to the idea of cellphones affecting the paranormal/Otherworld?
I don't know, but it's fun to speculate anyway.
