Baja Quake Felt In California

It was scary. Most of my family was at my grandmother's house for Easter linner, and the house started to violently shake. At first I thought it sounded like something or someone was on the roof, but it quickly descended into chaos as the youngest ones were picked up and we fled outside to await the conclusion. My grandmother was panicking, and near tears. It was reported originally as a 6.9, but it lasted from 30-45 seconds, and I felt an aftershock. Later, it said there was an earthquake in NorCal near Sacramento.

How are the rest of my California buddies?

It was upgraded to 7.2 a little while ago. Everything seems ok here. My art systems are unplugged for the upcoming storm we are suppose to get so I wont know about them till monday or tuesday. Nothing fell down here though which is a good. Several old pendulum clocks we have here are still tick tocking away so I think I was far enough away to avoid any major problems.

Thanks, Angel #1 ( 😉 ), no damage here except frayed nerves, I still jump when I think I feel something lol, and I was jittery for an hour or so afterwards..Thanks Prime, glad you're okay too.

According to USGS it was upgraded to a 7.2. it originated in Baja California, Mexico 20.1 miles underground. This was the first one I ever felt. Grabbed the Cat, the kids and took off for open ground... ( backyard ) All systems are still up and I was even in TMF chat when the monitors here started to shake. BTW Angel #2... What is a Easter Linner??? Did this person miss something? Also is John in town?

Well Easter is obvious, but linner is lunch and dinner (kinda like brunch..).

Anyways, he was, but he left this morning...hope he's okay and didn't get hurt while driving back when the quakes hit. 🙁

I was visiting a week after Northridge....

WAS spooky as the plane landed at LAX seeing highways with pieces missing from them/.. like a puzzle

Yea, I've lived in San Diego for about 15 of the last 20 years and this was the strongest quake I've felt, with the possible exception of the 92 quake near LA. First time it made me nervous since. Fortunately, no damage but I thought it wasn't going to end. They say it lasted 40 seconds but it felt a lot longer.

I also had to laugh when my roommate asked in the middle of the quake "What is it we are supposed to do?" I said now is probably not the best time to google it.

Are earthquakes becoming more frequent?

Haiti, Japan, Chile, and now in Mexico, all within several months.

7.8 quake off the coast of Sumatra Indonesia today.

Definitely a lot of quakes as of late.
